Love it Wyllow - I stand with the penguins

Wyllow3 Tue 08-Apr-25 14:41:02

Haven't you heard? The penguins are proposing reciprocal tariffs and Trump is slapping on reparations in response....🀫

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 08-Apr-25 14:45:05

Wonderful stuff - you couldn't make it up, could you?
What are Trump supporters saying about this?

Wyllow3 Tue 08-Apr-25 14:49:07

Mass demonstrations are being reported.

AGAA4 Tue 08-Apr-25 15:06:57

πŸ˜‚This is so funny. I think the penguins will win. They are more intelligent πŸ€“

Yes, I posted a few threads ago about the tariffs on fish!
And tariffs on all the films they make which I'm sure are shown in American cinemas 😁

Ah, missed that! A lot of the cartoons have fish in them. Love the idea on film tariffs. Give the penguins their rights!

Allira Tue 08-Apr-25 16:19:55

This penguin is saying to Trump:

"You may think your hairstyle is unique but we invented the blond bouffant."

One of Trump's senior sycophants explained that the Australians might try to tranship goods through the Heard Islands to avoid the tarriffs on Australian goods.

It is clear he had no idea where they were, how big they were or whether they had a harbour or port.

It is known as 'when in a hole, stop digging'

Wyllow3 Tue 08-Apr-25 18:30:57

Nice ones.

You're right there, Monica

I would assume the $2 million of exports caught in territorial waters around the islands.

I have ammused myself this afternoon by first actually locating on Google World where these facinating islands are, then looking at them - 1 large active volcano island, the volcano is called 'Big Ben, total area around 140 square miles and then various rock upcrops, calling them islands is a gross exageration. 80% of the area of Heard island is covered with glaciers. There is a bay that I think serves as a harbour, but, as I understand no one has visited the island since 1995 and it is a conservation site of a very high environmental value.

Quite honestly it is the most remote god-forsaken place you can think of.

Now that Vance has been talking about Chinese peasants it's probably safer for us all if they stick to the penguins.

But the penguins love it!

I suppose that they incur this tariff because they are an external territory of Australia and Australia's tariff will be 10%.

Well, yes, Allira, but why haven't the Americans quoted a tariff rate for Rockall, or Tristan da Cunha? They too are British overseas territories.

No idea, M0nica but the Falkland Islands have been hit with a 42% tariff
In 2023, the Falklands exported $27.4m (Β£21.2m) of goods to the US, mostly non-fillet frozen fish, according to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), external.

In contrast, the OEC said the US exported $329,000 (Β£255,000) of goods to the Falklands.

Perhaps Trump has never heard of Rockall or Tristan da Cunha so they escaped attention.

Granmarderby10 Wed 09-Apr-25 12:35:49

Trump knows β€œRockall” anyway!

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 09-Apr-25 15:23:34

There are several British overseas territories in the South Atlantic which are home only to penguins that are being given a 10% tariff - can't remember which ones. You really couldn't make it up. I love these memes, Wyllow 3. I think l would trust the penguins more than Orange One.

Wyllow3 Sat 12-Apr-25 14:46:42

Trump grabs his 10%

Allira Sat 12-Apr-25 14:48:07
