Good morning Mick and all GN's from a still grey morning in North Yorkshire. Cant tell yet whether it is going to clear up and have some sunshine or get worse and rain. We are promised showers and all sorts of mixed weather, so no help with deciding how to plan the day.
My grand intentions of starting early have already taken somewhat of a hit! I put the washing on last night with the plan to put it out on the line early, before going off for a little shopping and the local paper , so that I could see what if anything was happening and plan my day.
Huh! A rubbish night and poor amount of sleep, and back to very creaky and painful movement means that I am still sat in dressing gown, waiting for painkillers to kick in, so that I can even start the planned day! I can already cancel any idea of joining in any of the good friday walks for a start! Whatever I end up doing will have to be based on being able to drive to whatever or just plodding along today with hopes of a better day tomorrow.
Yesterday went to the meeting / jacobs join lunch. There were not many there as of course the holidays meant that some people had gone away and others were now on childcare duties or meeting families, but we had a pleasant time and I then called at Tesco for a small amount of shopping, Met a couple of people I knew , and then another lady of about my age near the sweets area.
I wanted to give a gift to someone who has been very helpful to me, but no intention of paying well over the odds for an easter egg with nothing inside and an outrageous price for a thin amount of chocolate and lots of packaging. So they had an offer on one of the big Toblerone bars for £4.50 instead of £6 , which I know she likes, so that was my very yorkshire "easter" choice, which I am sure she will enjoy.
The lady and I talked of making "pace" eggs, fresh eggs hard boiled and painted and then rolled down the hill, or sometimes used for egg and spoon and then batted down a hill with the spoon. We then went back in our memories of rationing still going into the 50's and the very small amount of sweet rationing etc. Being the organising type, we had a little club of girls and any time like christmas or easter, if we were given sweets, we then used to have a "swap" meeting just after the holiday, where I got them to bring any chocolates they did not really like and we exchanged them with each other. I have always been very keen on coffee flavour anything and not many of my friends were so as I have never cared for turkish delight it was a very good scheme from my point of view. We wouldnt dream of throwing a chocolate away then. Bit of a change now eh?
Mick hope you have a good day. Have you been a keen cyclist in the past yourself, or just enjoy watching it? There has definitely been a bigger interest in cycling since the cycle racing came up and did around the coast and up the dales. Many visitors come cycling now as they have seen what spectacular scenery and variety of places we have here, but there are also more local people having a go too.
grandMattie great news about your new glasses and hope they will now help to get rid of the headaches too
Bellasnana what a horrible shock for you all that you could do without. You have been having a hard time of it lately and so hope your daughter is feeling a bit better now and you can all have a peaceful Easter
The king and queen were in Durham yesterday giving out the Maundy money and it was shown on the local news. The weather was cold but dry and it all went off well and lots of people were happy to have the chance to see them. Probably got the best view on the tv and it was good to get a view of bits of Durham as havent been able to walk round there for a long time. Well it is time I got a move on. There will no doubt be lots of people out ahead of me this morning, so need to get to the bread shop or the very good wholemeal loaf I enjoy will be gone. Have a good day everyone and may it be peaceful and restful for us all
