The King’s tie!

Just saw the King’s tie that he wore today and it really made me smile.

It was a blue tie with submarines on . Not dour black ones but childish ones in blue. It was sweet and cute and fun.

It’s so nice to see him happy and cheerful.

That’s it really, nothing important but it cheered me up on a glum day.

I am reminded of a tie that my father has that he wears sometimes when he goes to give talks and things internationally. (My father is a distinguished scientist.) We are from Canada, and this particular tie has Mounties dressed in red serge and riding horses all over it.

Having met the king (when he was Prince of Wales) I can tell you that he has a quiet impish sense of humour and a natural ability to put people at ease, so it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that he chose the tie himself!

Ink on a hand must be so difficult with much handshaking

The leaky pen has happened more than once Pam he once said they "do this all the time"

I started to warm to him when his 'stinking pen' wasn't working, when he had to sign numerous legal documents shortly after his mother died. I could completely empathise with being annoyed with an inanimate object that makes life difficult.

The sense of humour doesn't surprise me, because he was known to be a fan of the Goons when he was younger.

Yes, I like him, too.

He was thought of as odd and 'eco' for years, and now many people are seeing the value of what he did - protecting the earth, organic farming and so on.

I also see he wore a tie with little elephants on it when he attended a function for Camilla’s deceased brother’s charity. I wonder why it’s only now that he is letting his humorous side out.

I wonder if he’s also doing the ‘older man thing’ of wearing colourful socks as well ?
I quite like our new king 👑

I do remember at some comedy awards, Spike Milligan was given an award, the award presenter read a message from
Charles congratulating Spike who said “grovelling bastard”,
much late he said in an interview he wrote to Charles and said
“I won’t get a knighthood now, Charles replied “keep grovelling”

I am a near contemporary and I remember reading ages ago that he was a great fan of The Goons and a friend of Spike Milligan. I also remember reading that he appeared in at least one comic revue while he was at Cambridge.

Thank you Calendargirl and FGT
The one upthread was too small (for me) to see the details!

Calendargirl Thu 15-May-25 11:04:07

I think Camilla has been a huge influence (for the better).

Encouraged him to be less stuffy and buttoned up, whilst retaining the dignity and gravitas necessary for his Kingship.

I hope they both have many more fruitful years of monarchy together, not least to give William and Catherine time to bring up and enjoy their young family, which both Charles and Anne missed out on with their own parents it seems.

🤣🤣🤣

Here you go.

Can someone please post a photo of this tie?
I have looked for it but can't see it...

There is a photo upthread.

TheWeirdoAgain1 Thu 15-May-25 10:54:43

I've just Googled photos of it, it's adorable!

AGAA4 Thu 15-May-25 10:34:33

The late Queen was said to have a good sense of humour so maybe Charles has inherited that from her.

Anniebach Thu 15-May-25 10:33:33

He always has, the press always wanted to mock him so his humour was ignored

Dare I say because the late Queen put her foot down over any slightest thing she thought undignified?

I too am fond of Charles and I like how he is showing a caring side of the monarchy. The stuffy over formality has gone and I like that.

I have met him several times over many years, I can believe
he chose the tie, he has a great sense of humour and is such
a caring man

luluaugust Thu 15-May-25 09:55:50

Perhaps when Trump arrives he could have a quirky one with George 111 on grin

Cossy Thu 15-May-25 09:54:36

How nice!

How I wish, time and time again, he’d married her first and then the family may have avoided so much angst, then again we wouldn’t have the lovely (now) Prince & Princess of Wales.

Sliding doors eh.

nanna8 Thu 15-May-25 09:52:15

Maybe 🤔 one of the grandchildren chose it for him? He seems like a nice man.
