On the 21st May 2024 our house went on the market.

Today nearly a year on we finally move into our new home.

We moved out on 21/3/25 and have been living out of suitcases for two months!

We have had to have immense patience as our sellers had so many hitches with their purchase but we’ve done it!

It will hopefully be worth all the stress, today we move in with all the stuff we’ve been lugging around for 8 weeks and some bits we stored with friends, the big day is Monday when our furniture arrives!

Anyone out there going through the process my advice is stay calm and stick with it!

Good luck and much happiness in your new home Sago. My home is on the market. I haven't found anything yet. My family are relocating and I'm going too. The family have found a property they love, so fingers crossed for them.
I'm hoping I find a house I love as much as my current home of fourteen years.

My last move was nearly 22 years ago and I hope to start the process again this year or next - currently in the decluttering phase!
Last time we put most of our stuff in storage as we had a cash buyer but our purchase chain was incomplete. We rented a friend's house as they were going to Australia leaving their house on the market and we found this out 2 weeks before we had to be out, so things were getting stressful! We rented for about 3 months including 10 days after completion when we had a damp course put in and decorated 5 rooms!
I'm hoping this next time will be more straight forward as I'm on my own now, but dreading the process. I guess the more I declutter the easier it will be. Wish me luck!

Thank you all!

Furniture and all our belongings arrive on Monday, we bought a bed from the vendors so have somewhere to sleep!

We’ve unpacked two car loads, had new furniture delivered a TV fitted and a Waitrose shop arrived at 6.30!

Just scoffed a “dine in” and a bottle of Cremant.

Sleep now🙏.

Really good news Sago hope it's all plain sailing now.

Good news sago. We also lived out of suitcases between selling our previous home and moving here. A bit of role reversal, our younger son took us in. It was actually fun. smile. Once we completed on our new home we camped in our touring van while we renovated, installing very basic kitchen equipment. The vast majority of our furniture and oh so many boxes were in storage. We soon realised what we didn’t actually need or indeed want. We shed a lot, have never regretted it.

Good luck with the move, Sago.

I hope its gone well! Are you in the house without the furniture??
Have you a bed to sleep on?

SueDonim Fri 16-May-25 12:36:00

Good luck with the move! We had a hiatus between houses and spent the summer in a one bed flat, along with our cat. We took some essentials with us while the rest went into storage for three months. Since then, some of it has never been unpacked, it’s sitting in boxes in the garage, which makes me wonder how much ‘stuff’ we truly need. I was glad to unpack our books, though.

I hope all the moving plans come to fruition and that by the end of Monday you’ll be arranging your furniture and possessions and be cracking open a bottle of fizz!

Congratulations, We are just a month or so behind you. We are in a short chain; buyer and a first time buyer, and our sale is not dependent on us purchasng anything, although we are, and our purchase has no upward chain.

We went on the market in January 24 - and then had four people people competing to buy the house in March 25.

As the house we are buying needs work we will not be moving in immediately, but as DD moved into quite a large house in the same town 2 months ago we are moving in with her temporarily. We have been allocated 2 bedrooms so that we have our own living space as well as bedroom and our temporary stuff will be in her garage.
