Out of the quiet corner to offer a gentle hug to fgt and mr fgt. One for soop too, enough buggerations now!

A late happy birthday blossoming. To liken my memory to a sieve is being overly flattering.

Night, night everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 07-Jul-25 22:49:28

Thank you Baggs for letting us know the very difficult news about Soop. I’m sure she knows we are all thinking about her and wishing her the very best.

Grannmarie Mon 07-Jul-25 22:51:19

Good evening, lovely Kitchen people.

Baggs, thanks for update, so sorry to hear about Soop, hoping and praying that things improve for her very soon. Hope you and yours are doing OK.

FGT, so good to have you back in the kitchen. Sorry to hear what Himself is going through, brave man. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. 💕🕯🙏

Happy birthday Blossoming, 🎂💐🍷🥳 🎈, enjoy your lunch on Wednesday.

Nannytopsy and Kitty, I'm sorry to hear about your granddaughters ' broken bones, hope they mend quickly.

SueD, sorry to hear about your family being afflicted by Covid, hoping everyone recovers quickly and completely.

Grandmabatty, I hope you're enjoying that glass of wine, you've certainly earned it today!

We've had a dry, sunny and breezy day, bedding washed and dried on the line. Small pleasures! Tomorrow, I'm taking my wheelchair bound friend to the Requiem Mass of the husband of one of our Coffee Morning friends. Most of the ladies at 'our table' are now widowed, so sad. It'll be the first time I've managed the wheelchair in and out of the car since before Easter, when I developed the sore shoulder and arm with muscular and nerve pain, fingers crossed I don't undo the good of weeks of massage! 🤞

Wishing everyone a peaceful Tuesday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

Hello kitchen people. I’m currently relaxing in my cabin in a boat on the Rhine in Basel. OH is in the cabin next door.

Elder son had stayed the night and drove us to Heathrow at 4.30 am.

We had a good flight and all was on time. That is until one of the passengers managed to get lost at Basel airport! He was located eventually. He had gone through the French exit instead of the Swiss exit.

I hope the FGT2S are having a good day and that Soop is getting the right treatment.

Jaxjacky Tue 08-Jul-25 16:32:58

That sounds delightful llfl a lovely cool place to be if it’s warm, have a great time.
Grannmarie I hope the wheelchair has been mission accomplished without injury.
A warmer day, I’ve collected a parcel, had a chat with our butcher before I order meat for Sundays family bbq, taxed and insured our ‘new to us car’ before it arrives tomorrow.
I’m trying to get things done before the 30 heat due in a couple of days, MrJ is playing golf on Saturday - bonkers.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 08-Jul-25 16:51:22

Another one here not looking forward to the rise in temperature.
It is my birthday on Saturday and I have had lots of cool and wet birthdays, not many hot that I can remember.
My GD and her BF set off on Thursday lunchtime for a holiday in Morocco, after several hours it became clear they were going nowhere thanks to French Air Traffic Control.
By 10 pm with the help of the TUI rep they had an alternative booked ,flying out at 6am Friday morning to Zakinthos, they are having a fantastic holiday so it all worked out fine for them.
Temperature when they get back on Saturday will not be much lower than they are experiencing.
I send very best wishes to the poorlies and their carers.
I am starting to feel my age very much now but it is not ill health just tiredness so I have much to be thankful for.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 08-Jul-25 16:57:23

I have had a very lazy day, so I have just resurrected my inner domestic goddess and prepared a salmon en croute ready to go in the oven for dinner.

I then washed the kitchen floor 🤷‍♀️

((( hugs ))) to all in need and those resting in the quiet corner.

Grandmabatty Tue 08-Jul-25 17:26:57

Good evening Kitcheners. Grannmarie I hope your day went without incident. Grannygravy I am impressed. Salmon en croute indeed. Yum. Usedtobeblonde I'm glad your dgd and her boyfriend are having a good, alternative holiday. Jaxjacky a productive day for you.
The boys and I had a good day. A welcome change from the histrionics of yesterday. I made dough and they helped knead it. Then we went to soft play. It was quiet and air conditioned so a win for grandma! After we got home, they had a quiet time on their iPad. Then a picky lunch which both boys polished off. Then we made peanut butter cookies and played in the garden. Then a walk to the swing park and finished off the day with the iPads again. I'm going to have gammon and air fryer chips later with a cold glass of white wine. Childcare over for the week! Have a good evening Kitcheners

Grandmabatty Tue 08-Jul-25 17:29:02

I meant to include a photo of the bread. The boys were very impressed with the rise and the final outcome. Dgs1 had a large slice. I had two!

luluaugust Tue 08-Jul-25 17:33:52

Sending kind thoughts and best wishes to Soop

Blossoming Tue 08-Jul-25 18:37:40

Good evening dear Kitcheners. As my favourite Scots YouTuber always says I hope I find you very well. MrB went to Lidl and the village butchers first thing. After that we had a change of plan and went for my birthday lunch today after our usual morning walk. He took my photo when I wasn’t expecting it which I think often looks better than a posed photo.

Hope all the broken limbs are healing nicely, thinking of our poorly grans and hoping for better days ahead.

Despite my own health challenges I am still able to get out and about with MrB’s help and life is good. I’m counting my blessings on this lovely sunny evening. TOYA ♥️

Grandmabatty Tue 08-Jul-25 19:16:36

Blossoming that's a lovely photo of you. You look pensive

Scapa1 Tue 08-Jul-25 20:43:16

LLFL that seems to be a common problem at Basel airport it happened with two of our group. What a lovely day it has been here in Scotland. We had a trip up the A9 to House of Bruar where we had a fish and chips between us for lunch sitting outside it was a huge portion followed by a wander round taking in all the expensive items but refraining from buying! We then had a coffee, again sitting outside in the sunshine. We came back by the Perthshire Tourist route through Aberfeldy, the “Sma” Glen where the Bonnie Purple Heather was coming into bloom. Onwards to Crieff and from there home to Dunblane. The tourist route was quiet but beautiful. We are so lucky to have this basically on our doorstep. It felt like we were on holiday! Thoughts are with Soop who continues to have buggerations. She is having a difficult time of it!

Redcar Tue 08-Jul-25 20:46:22

Lovely photo of you blossoming, I hope you had an enjoyable lunch!
I’m another one not sure that I’m looking forward to the heatwave that’s coming. I’m going to rig up some sort of blind for the glass back door, which faces south. I’ll have to sacrifice an old sheet I think. I’ll also have to water the front garden in the morning while it’s in the shade. The boiler was serviced this morning at 8.00, I had to set the alarm so I could get showered & dressed before the plumber arrived. Annoying that t usually wake at 5.00 but didn’t this morning, it’s taken me most of the day to recover from being woken up by the alarm clock!
Night night everyone.

GrandmaC47 Wed 09-Jul-25 22:09:00

Very quiet in the kitchen tonight. Hope everyone is ok.
Must have been a busy day.
Thinking of those with health problems and worries and those in the quiet corner.

Blossoming Wed 09-Jul-25 22:35:58

I had a lovely birthday and yesterday was wonderful. I was worn out last night and full of far too much birthday food grin. We’ve had a slower day today, usual morning walk and pottering around the house and garden. Tomorrow we are meeting family at the Marina coffee shop, another adventure for me with the walker. There is plenty of outdoor seating so we won’t need to go into the rather cramped shop, which would be difficult with the walker. I have been trying to decide what to wear, many of my clothes are too big now. Not the worst problem in the world, I’m sure nobody will be critiquing my outfit!

Sleep tight dear Kitcheners, TOYA ♥️

Redcar Wed 09-Jul-25 22:39:43

It certainly is very quiet this evening, I hope everyone is ok?
utbb good that your DGD managed to get a flight for her holiday and that she’s having a great time, even if she was supposed to be somewhere else!!
Warm and airless here today, got a load of washing dry very quickly, I just have to iron some of it, possibly tomorrow morning but more likely Friday.
I put some old pillow cases up at the back door with sticky tape. It looks a mess, but hopefully it will keep the kitchen a bit cooler.
Night night everyone.

Grannmarie Wed 09-Jul-25 23:50:35

Very quiet indeed, hope everyone is OK.

Scapa, your day out sounds just perfect, right down to the shared fish and chips!

Redcar, I hope you manage to keep comfortable during your expected heatwave. Good idea about the sheet, very resourceful!

Hello 👋, GrandmaC47, good to see you in the Kitchen, I hope you're doing OK.

Blossoming, enjoy your family meet up tomorrow. DH and I always enjoyed relaxing around a Marina, loved a wee boat trip too.

Hope the brooks and Ladyleftfieldlover and OH are having a wonderful time on their travels.

Yesterday, and today, I attended funerals, DH of a coffee morning friend, in our own parish, then DH of a former colleague, in the neighbouring parish where I taught in the Primary school for 32 years, so I knew a lot of those attending. I don't think I've ever attended two funerals in two days. DH's funeral was three months ago tomorrow, I don't know what I've done in that time, a lot of it seems in a daze. Sometimes I feel strangely numb, I suppose it's still early days and it'll take time to accept the reality of my situation.

Thinking of all in the quiet corner, our Soops and FGTs, and all with illness, worries or sorrow.
TOYA, NNGB.

Jaxjacky Thu 10-Jul-25 08:04:04

Morning all, tired last night, so went to bed early. I did have a lovely lunch out with a friend, MrJ played with his new car. Early evening we met up with another friend who had a birthday, 68, I’ve know him for forty odd years.
POA’s being done this morning, then chiller unit will go on, we’re due 31 today.
Enjoy your meet up Blossoming
Grannmarie from where I’m standing you seem to be adjusting at your own pace - as you should, I’m sure that old chestnut of time healing is true, but there will be hiccups too xx

Jaxjacky Thu 10-Jul-25 08:11:13

Yesterday’s lunch

Nannytopsy Thu 10-Jul-25 08:59:47

I didn’t make it yesterday either! It was our WI summer supper, in one lady’s garden. The committee prepared a buffet which was well received but by the time I got home I was “jiggered” to use an old fashioned word. Standing to cook for any length of time doesn’t suit my hip at all.
Redcar we have a similar problem. Our kitchen faces south, with 4 patio doors looking onto a stone patio. In the winter the room is quite warm but in the summer it gets very hot - over 30C recently. We are wondering about an awning which can be wound out when needed. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Lot to everyone in the quiet corner and to the poorly ones too.

Nannytopsy Thu 10-Jul-25 09:00:25

Love not lot 😠
