This is the first year we haven’t grown any veggies.

We were due to have builders in, still no start date, so I am rather miffed that I will miss out on home grown veggies, they taste so much better.

Naughtyneine Wed 16-Jul-25 13:39:09

The veggie haul and the slutty housewife's shame....( Not)

Redcar Wed 16-Jul-25 16:24:40

A lovely lot of tasty veg neine! I think it’s a bad year for cobwebs!!

brook2704 Wed 16-Jul-25 19:01:45

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been a gorgeous warm sunny day here in Inverness, no wind and wall to wall sunshine. I enjoyed getting back to the gym, caught up with all the gossip, had a coffee in a riverside cafe and came home on the bus. They seem to have changed all the bus times whilst I’ve been away so I had a bit of a wait. DH made dinner and we’ve just come in from eating outside in the garden. I would have really enjoyed a glass of wine but we’re both on detox after our holidays 🥴

Well done to all you veg growing ladies, sadly I’m not one of you but probably should be. Your veggies look really good neine so fresh and tasty
I know you posted pictures a few days ago uttb and blossoming but just wanted to say how lovely you both look
Hoping grandmabatty, grannmarie and everyone else on holiday is having a lovely time
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner especially our dearest Soop take care all x

I am ensconced in AS4’s house, tween sitting.

I am here for a week, usually it’s just a couple of days then I take them back to ours until parents come home.

This time one has work experience (and a girlfriend) the other has become a gym fiend and wants all his tech so here I am.

Jacket potato in the oven along with a chicken breast with tomatoes and seasoning. Their range is more high tech than mine, hopefully it will be edible.

No doubt the seagulls will wake me up at silly o’clock in the morning, but it is nice to wake up and be able to see the sea.

Tasty looking veg naughtyneine

GrannyGravy13 Wed 16-Jul-25 19:28:26

Oops oh for an edit button teen sitting not tween sitting 🤬

brook2704 Wed 16-Jul-25 19:36:04

Enjoy your time with the teens GG13 and hope you’re not woken up too early!

Jaxjacky Wed 16-Jul-25 20:41:08

Veg are amazing neine struggling here, it’s so dry, hosepipe ban Monday and my runner beans have rust- ironic!
Trip to Marks food hall for flowers, a friends birthday tomorrow, home, washed floors and moved money online.
My car was collected at 5, a couple of scratches to be fixed, I’ll own up to one, the other was in a car park, very irking, car back tomorrow I hope.
It’s been great weather for me today 25/26, a breeze with a few clouds, if it rained tonight - due to be very warm, it would be perfect.
Wave to the quiet corner 👋
Another to those on holiday 👋🌴

brook2704 Wed 16-Jul-25 21:40:47

👋 Jax hope you get your car back tomorrow and all sorted out ok

Milsa Wed 16-Jul-25 21:57:44

I went to work, have at least lovely bosses who don't terrorise me. Have been through very nasty jobs. So fir the first time this is good. For the first time of my working life and I'm near 50

Jaxjacky Wed 16-Jul-25 21:58:14

Thanks * brook* apparently the warm weather helps the ‘curing’

Redcar Thu 17-Jul-25 07:25:56

neine I read your account of your wedding night on the Lobstars thread! Shepherds huts are obviously not recommended for a romantic night a deux!

cornergran Thu 17-Jul-25 09:40:38

Hello everyone.

A quick eye update. Round one completed yesterday. Two very kind staff eased me through it, an odd rather than painful experience, just one 2 or 3 second ouch. Round two will be in four weeks, no room at the local hospital which means a 90 minute each way trip. I am more than grateful for the care but do wish it could be closer. I’ve been sent away with a list of infection avoiding ‘dont’s’ for the next week. One made me smile - I am to avoid dust (hard here!). The eye is sore and swollen this morning, I’m sure both will soon subside.

Mr C is still struggling with his foot. He’s finally doing the exercises so there may be progress soon. Poor old crocs are we grin.

Love seeing the home grown veg. We just grow a few potatoes now, used to be beans, peas, carrots and onions as well, our potatoes aren’t quite ready for harvesting yet. The family find the focus hilarious, I rarely eat them so most are given away, there’s a limit to what Mr C can consume. My Dad was a farm worker, I grew up on arable farms and can’t let a year pass without growing something we can eat even if I don’t eat it grin.

Wishing you all a decent day.

Usedtobeblonde Thu 17-Jul-25 10:37:02

Good morning all.
So pleased you survived the eye procedure cornergran.
I found the drops very difficult to administer as I have a strong blink reflex and the lotion would be running down my face.
It is dull but warm here today after Tuesday’s rain…lots of it and yesterday dull until a lovely evening.

I have been very tired all week, after so much heat last week I can’t get into any sort of routine , not sleeping and not really interested in getting a decent meal, just browsing.
I cancelled a lunch out on Tuesday and visiting a friend yesterday.
To be quite truthful, although I am trying to be supportive my friend is definitely “ losing it” and yesterday I just wasn’t up to dealing with her repetitiveness and her being so absolutely right about everything.
We are going out for Sunday lunch for my belated birthday treat.
I hope the food is so good she enjoys eating rather than talking all the time.
I feel quite nasty talking like that but it really is hard work.

I hope soop along with all the other poorlies is ok and for those of you looking after sick H’s , I have been there and done that and send you very special thoughts.

Have the best day you can.

Enjoy your time with the teens GG13 and hope you’re not woken up too early!

5am this morning’s seagull concert 😹

brook2704 Thu 17-Jul-25 15:35:07

Oh goodness GG13 such an early start, I hope you’re not flagging too much today
Pleased you got through the eye procedure ok corner, not pleasant but necessary. I hope it settles down soon
It’s another gorgeous day here, I’m just in from the garden for a short rest before I need to go out later. It’s my Thursday night FitSteps dance class which I really enjoy
We’ve got two of these Clematis plants on an arch in the garden, every year the same one flourishes and the other gets Clematis wilt and struggles - strange as they’ve both got the same growing conditions 🤷‍♀️
Just do what you enjoy Uttb and don’t feel too bad if you cancel on your friend, especially if you’re seeing her on Sunday
Hoping all Kitcheners on holiday are having a lovely time away, take care all x

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 17-Jul-25 15:59:56

Hello kitchen people. What a muggy and humid day!

I popped into our nearby town today to do a Waitrose shop and it was so uncomfortable.

I collected one of my newly framed prints. It’s already on the wall. The other two should be ready in a couple of weeks.

OH has gone to visit his bees. He thinks there might be quite a lot of honey to draw off.

I hope all is well with the Soops and the FGT2S.

Nannytopsy Thu 17-Jul-25 18:16:58

My greenhouse has cucumber mosaic virus 🤬. The cucumbers have gone and I think the cantaloupe melon will be in the bin soon too. The beans are struggling and the chard is bolting. Sweetcorn looking good though.
This veg growing is not for wimps!

Jaxjacky Thu 17-Jul-25 18:26:20

Oh corner how many rounds are there? Just the two I hope, with the travel it sounds very tiring, I hope it’s less sore now.
utbb you look after you, it can be draining seeing some people.
I’ve binned my runners topsy yesterday, growing veg is indeed hot and miss, weather and bugs.
My car is back, all done and a good price, we visited my daughter earlier, final POA signatures. It’s very humid, brief shower this morning, I’d love a storm but it’s not forecast.
Bathrooms cleaned, stairs hoovered and leather furniture fed, that’ll do.
brook I’ve got plants like that, no logic.

Blossoming Thu 17-Jul-25 19:21:10

Good evening dear Kitcheners, waving from the quiet corner, sending a group hug to you all xx

Redcar Thu 17-Jul-25 19:44:47

corner I hope your eyes are more comfortable now. utbb I think sometimes you have to put yourself first and step back from a situation that you know will be difficult to deal with.
I’ve decided that I can cope quite well with the heat, but find the humidity just wipes me out!
We actually had a short shower this afternoon, don’t think that was forecast. I wonder how much of Saturday’s forecast torrential rain we’ll actually see.
So far my tomato plants, dwarf beans and some salad leaves are surviving the weather, but the beans aren’t prolific this year.
I hope the soops and fgts are ok, thinking of them all.

kittylester Thu 17-Jul-25 19:49:11

Just popping out of the quiet corner to see how everyone is doing.

I hope the soops and fgts are ok.

jax you've been very productive. I had a pedicure and then a helped on a zoom Carer course and I am dead on my feet.

Not sure what your eye procedure is corner but you have my sympathy. My eye jab was not very painful but it's the stress that got me. The journey, the waiting, the after effects etc.

Love the picture llfl. Utbb, I'm sure your friend feels comfortable in your company but you have to put yourself first.

It's been a funny few days here - extended family aggro and the shadow of my mother is looming large.

Shove over in the quiet corner - I'm coming back to reclaim my space.

brook2704 Thu 17-Jul-25 21:32:31

Shame about the virus nannytopsy no idea what it is but it doesn’t sound good 🥴
I’m back from the dance class, very hot and hard work this evening- I think I’m still a bit tired from travelling, it always takes me a few days to recover. I had a really good FaceTime chat with DS earlier, he’s much more chatty than either of my DDs, they’re always very busy.
Good you got your car back without a hefty bill Jax
Keeping fingers crossed for the tomatoes, beans and salad leaves redcar
Family aggro always takes its toll kitty hope it’s sorted soon
I hope all in the quiet corner are doing ok, take care all x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 17-Jul-25 22:58:24

I’ve budged up kitty. You’ll notice I plumped up your cushions whilst you’d nipped out of the quiet corner.

We are going through a torrid time at present. Himself is on the ward at Christie’s since Monday. My poor man is going through the mill right now. Remember the oesophageal stent he had fitted mid May as he couldn’t swallow? Only turns out it’s bluddy faulty. Hence all his pain needing high doses of morphine these last few weeks.

He was in theatre today. The faulty stent got removed fortunately (it was corroded too) and a new longer one has been fitted. I’ve cried some tears these last few weeks I can tell you. I’m tired and drained after hospital visiting tonight. I’m scared too but this is the nature of the beast. Cancer is the pits. Some of you will know of what I speak.

I’m heading back into the quiet corner now, where I feel safe but sad.

I hope Soops is managing. I join you all in wishing her better times ahead.
