Shouting at the telly

This morning an exhibitor at Chelsea was talking about people leaving 'heart rendering' messages on her stand which was to do with funeral flowers.

I shouted so loudly that DH came to see if I was OK.

What makes you shout at the telly.

I regularly shout at the telly, particularly if it's a quiz show and some contestant is being stupid. Or a film where I know what's going to happen next

Me too😂
DP tells me to pipe down.

Same here. Im a big Quizzer and regularly shout at the tv.
Some of the stupidity is beyond funny 😡

Mollygo Fri 23-May-25 21:07:06

We don’t .shout the answers at quizzes but we do try to get the answer in before the contestant.
If anyone makes me want to shout, I simply mute them.

Alexander Armstrong on Classic FM. Can’t stand his manner! 🙄 Also the bloke who does the voice over on the Curry’s advert. For some reason his voice is really annoying!

I don't shout, but I have been known to correct the grammar of television announcers, newsreaders et al.
" It's different from , not different to..."
" That's a split infinitive "..and so on.
For some reason, my sons - in - law find this amusing.

I will tell anyone on telly that the proof isn't in the pudding! It's usually Kirsty Alsopp, but yesterday it was Carol Klein at Chelsea.
DH just laughs at me.

I shouted at Carol Klein as well. 😂😂😂

I’ve been trying to work out which presenter I shout at the most. I think it’s probably Jeremy Vine especially during all the coverage of Prince Andrew’s downfall when he seemed to think it a priority to get rid of his horse!!

I join in, my dad used to Argue with Harold Wilson whenever he was on telly, and I'm the same now! I couldn't bear Nick Clegg when he was deputy Prime Minister, (I hated the coalition generally) and used to tell him to go away in very unsuitable language for a Gran! If Liam Dutton, the channel 4 weatherman, says 'Have a good evening', I say 'I'll try, Liam, I'll try.'

Grandmabatty Sat 24-May-25 07:39:50

Merlotgran I don't like Carol Klein, a fact which I'm sure won't bother her at all! I don't know what it is, but she hits a raw nerve, like nails scraping down a board. She's muted whenever she appears!

oo 'Rendering' that sounds nasty. I only shout at Bargain Hunt- don't buy that!! They never listen to me.

Shout at dogs behaving badly when owner lets them lick their face. We all know what else they lick!😨

That's not the telly.

As I live on my own, the TV provides a useful outlet for my rage or contempt for anyone who gets on my nerves. The walls around my flat are well sound-proofed so my vocabulary can be as florid or disgraceful as I choose. I only hope that my 'Alexa' isn't storing my utterances for future embarrassment!

Could we give the anti-dog/anti-dog owners narrative a rest please?

Dogs behaving badly is on channel 4.wasnt having a go actually they all behaved after training. One 🐶 bit everyone who clipped him because he never saw them coming. Trainer showed him a comb gave him a treat then combed him. Worked up to clippers and clipped him. More treats

Your point being?

I don't shout, but as soon as I see Ant and Dec appear, I comment " not these two again" and switch over.

Oh, thank goodness it's not just me. Similar to, different from.
Very unique is another one. Something is either unique or it's not.

Didn't used to , but I feel like screaming at the funeral ads .
The latest one finishes with the woman saying Mexico and I find it infuriating .

Labradora

Good Evening , Kittylester,

No offence but did you mean to type "heart-rending" ?
If not, what is a heart-rendering message , when its at home ?
Odd that people would leave personal messages at a commercial flower -seller's stand.
Were they ordering flowers for funerals ?
If not, they all sound barmy to me.

Perhaps you should read the post more carefully, Labradora! You missed the whole point of what was said!

Couldn’t agree more! You’d think that people on the tv would speak correctly, wouldn’t you?
I think a split infinitive is accepted now, sadly, but I still hate it!

NanKate Mon 26-May-25 16:55:55

TV presenters, or anyone, who says ‘Off of’ 😏

Someone I know says this and she had been a primary school teacher !

Double negatives - ‘I don’t have no money’.

NotSpaghetti Mon 26-May-25 17:33:11

...also, when talking of costs of something "for free"
🙄

Cumbrianmale56 Mon 26-May-25 18:12:46

I can't stand football pundits . I don't like football at all, but these bores and their wittering about an offside decision like it was a major crisis make me angry. Usually I catch them when I'm waiting for anther programme and I end up shouting shut up and hurry up and get off.

RosieandherMaw Mon 26-May-25 21:43:40

Oh dear @ Labradora
Got it now?
