David Beckham was a very good footballer although he never won the Ballon D'Or. I don't see him as anything exceptional.

He has certainly grovelled enough for it. Another over rated sportsman honoured.

The wife of a “Sir” is not automatically “Lady”.
As for tiaras they are worn in the presence of the monarch, nothing to do with titles.

No other player worked harder for his team than Beckham. And he worked ‘for’ his team, not for personal glory. I think someone worked out how far he ran around the pitch when he played a game; it was one hell of a way. He wasn’t just a stand in one place and score a goal when the ball is set up for me sort of scorer. I had total confidence in him when he took a penalty.What resilience to pick himself from the hate and vitriol he faced when he got a red card in that game ( I don’t think he deserved it, either). Front page headlines the following day; he was only a youngster at the time.And Victoria was there for him when it happened. Afterwards he worked hard with Blair to get the Olympics for us. One of the proudest and most exhilarating two weeks I’ve ever had; wish I could relive it.

Well he was certainly desperate to get it including being nasty and disparaging about others who got awards, including Katherine Jenkins when she got her OBE.

A friend of mine worked for the Beckhams for several years. He wasn't a football fan and they were really just names to him, but he found they were a very nice couple, with Victoria's main interest being the children, who were still fairly young. What was interesting was the way several Daily Mail stories about them were completely contradicted by what my friend had seen at the time. You'd almost think the DM was doing it on purpose!!!

SIR David Beckham soon forgot his support for the LGBTQ community when Qatar paid him an eyewatering £125m to be their football ambassador when they hosted the World Cup. I have little time for people like him who ditch their ethics when they hear the chink of money.
We had a speaker at our WI meeting this week. He told us about Marcus Macfarlane-Barrow who founded Mary's Meals, a charity that provides a free school meal every day for 2.6 million children in the poorest parts of the world. Their HQ is a garden shed in Scotland so that as much money as possible goes to feed these children. It's the Marcus's of this world who deserve a knighthood.

Beckham put sport before politics. He's a sportsman first and foremost so no surprises where his ethics lie.
Magnus MacFarlane Barrow received an OBE in 2011. Beckham received an OBE in 2003. So Magnus should be on course to receive a knighthood in 8 years or so, patience seems key
Beckham hasvalways contributed huge amounts of his time, wealth and influence for charity.
The Marcus's of the world also get knighthoods so l don't know what your beef really is as your argument is baseless.

Do some research into his charity commitments, there's a previous recent thread on here which is informative. He is often underestimated and underappreciated. He's one of the good guys, astute, principled and driven. His charity commitments are impressive.

He established The David Beckham UNICEF Fund in partnership with them, focussing on children affected by bullying, violence, child marriage, and missed education. When he played for Paris Saint-Germain, his last club, he donated all of his wages to a local children's charity.He’s an official ambassador for The King’s Foundation, supporting its education programmes. He’s a founding member of the Malaria No More UK Leadership Council, and a hands on supporter of Help for Heroes amongst other causes. The Beckhams’ own charity, the Victoria and David Beckham Charitable Trust, provides wheelchairs to children in need. He was entered into the NSPCC’s Hall of Fame in 2004 for his work for them. 


The world could use a few more creeps like him.

Thank you for posting this, l posted similar in the recent previous thread. I just couldn't be bothered correcting ignorance again. He's always been more maligned than supported in the media and too many believe, and repeat, what they've read. If we have to have an honours' system it's a mockery not to offer Beckham a knighthood.

I'm pleased he has recognition. He deserves it., Z Remember him waiting in line to respect last Queen. I can assure you nothing makes up for what his son and wife's estrangement has put him and Victiria and siblings though.

I think David Beckham is one of the good guys and well deserves this knighthood.

David Beckham was a very good footballer although he never won the Ballon D'Or. I don't see him as anything exceptional.

No English footballer has won the Ballon D'Or but Beckham gained 2nd place, the highest place for an English footballer. Not having won the Ballon D'Or didn't preclude other footballers from being awarded knighthoods, nor diminish their abilities. It seems a strange award to dig up to prove some obscure point.
