I've read that David Beckham is to receive a knighthood.

I'm in favour, as I think he has given quite a lot back to the country in different ways.

Me too. He has really wanted it for some time and I think sometimes you wait longer if you do but I do think he deserves it, he does a lot of charity work

merlotgran Fri 06-Jun-25 10:08:25

About time.

Anniebach Fri 06-Jun-25 10:53:22

Yes and definitely about time

OldFrill Fri 06-Jun-25 11:22:56

I don't agree with the system but as it stands Beckham has long deserved a knighthood.

Crossstitchfan Fri 06-Jun-25 11:37:02

Does that make Posh a ‘lady’? Ye gods, there’ll be no holding her back now! This must be the best ever thing to happen to her, and she is undoubtedly out looking for tiaras as we speak!
Congratulations to David though, this is well-deserved.

The leaked email just delayed it I think. He got it eventually.

woodenspoon Fri 06-Jun-25 11:54:07

I’m glad. He deserves it. He does work in public and behind the scenes for charity. He also seems to be a nice family orientated person.

Casdon Fri 06-Jun-25 11:57:36

Yay! Well deserved, David Beckham.

Not before time! I’ve always seen him as a good role model and family man - - a couple of blips excepted, nobody’s perfect. Charitable, hard-working and talented. Exceedingly easy on the eye as well, but I’m guessing that wasn’t taken into account. grin

I think the blips ( eg the speeding fine) were what set him back from getting a knight hood. He was quite instrumental in getting us the Olympic Games and I’m pleased that what he has done for the country has finally been acknowledged. He was also a pretty good footballer!

🙄

sassenach512 Fri 06-Jun-25 12:59:48

🙄 me too Grannylynj let's face it, he's been on a mission to get it

Calendargirl Fri 06-Jun-25 13:02:57

Yes, ‘Posh’ will be ‘Lady Beckham’.

Kate1949 Fri 06-Jun-25 13:05:54

I'm not sure calling the committee 'unappreciative &@*' hurried this along. It's a shame that some people want recognition/reward for their good deeds..

It's a shame when people like Beckham, unfairly, do not get the recognition. Well done Beckham.

Coconutty Fri 06-Jun-25 13:45:59

Finally. Maybe it’ll make up for the fallout with Beckham Jnr and his wife.

Crossstitchfan Fri 06-Jun-25 13:49:14

Jesus wept!

Aldom Fri 06-Jun-25 13:55:23

Crossstichfan is blasphemy really necessary??

Labradora Fri 06-Jun-25 16:21:16

Why not?
He deserves a knighthood for staying in that kind of shape at his age.
Plus he was instrumental in getting us 2012.
And was an exceedingly good footballer.
Lady Posh can say that she was "posh" before she was a Lady......

Anniebach Fri 06-Jun-25 16:28:36

He does much for charity, was a great sportsman,

hazel93 Fri 06-Jun-25 16:35:30

Very well deserved. One of the good guys IMO.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 06-Jun-25 16:37:04

Compared to some people who have been knighted.

Beckham should have been a shoe-in.

Sarnia Fri 06-Jun-25 16:41:52

A knighthood for kicking a ball around a patch of grass and I love football.
SIR David Beckham soon forgot his support for the LGBTQ community when Qatar paid him an eyewatering £125m to be their football ambassador when they hosted the World Cup. I have little time for people like him who ditch their ethics when they hear the chink of money.
We had a speaker at our WI meeting this week. He told us about Marcus Macfarlane-Barrow who founded Mary's Meals, a charity that provides a free school meal every day for 2.6 million children in the poorest parts of the world. Their HQ is a garden shed in Scotland so that as much money as possible goes to feed these children. It's the Marcus's of this world who deserve a knighthood.

Anniebach Fri 06-Jun-25 16:44:43

How unusual to enjoy football yet describe t as kicking a
ball around a patch of grass
