Thank goodness I'm not famous, what a horrible life it must be! A friend's husband received a "big honour" some time ago. He thoroughly deserved it for his professional work as he was a leader in his field. Did he live a completely "blameless life"? Not really, tbh I'd have given the honour to his wife but outside of his professional life he is a completely private person. I wonder how many of us would pass muster if we were put under the media spotlight and events in our past life continually dug up to try to shame us. Few of us, I guess.

What’s all the downer on Victoria Beckham ? She’s a hard working woman who has had at least two successful careers and raised 4 kids, kept on the straight and narrow as far as I can tell with drink - drugs and extra marital affairs (which is maybe more than can be said for her husband) as well as keeping a marriage going in the face of overwhelming pressure and supporting her husband when he went abroad for his football career. Give her a break ! . I have no positive opinion of the honours system but I guess he ‘deserves’ it as much as some people …

SIR David Beckham soon forgot his support for the LGBTQ community when Qatar paid him an eyewatering £125m to be their football ambassador when they hosted the World Cup. I have little time for people like him who ditch their ethics when they hear the chink of money.
We had a speaker at our WI meeting this week. He told us about Marcus Macfarlane-Barrow who founded Mary's Meals, a charity that provides a free school meal every day for 2.6 million children in the poorest parts of the world. Their HQ is a garden shed in Scotland so that as much money as possible goes to feed these children. It's the Marcus's of this world who deserve a knighthood.

How I agree personally I cannot stand the whole Beckham family, so me, me, me constantly as for Posh give us all a break. No wonder the oldest son has pulled away. The Beckhams never do anything without wanting recognition.

Never ceases to amaze me how ‘some posters’ get vitriolic and nasty about people like the Beckhams. They’re stinking rich, don’t cause harm to others, give to charity etc. We have real bad folk to get angry about. One of them is the President of America

Agree with you merlotgran. My mill worker grannie served her best high tea between 5 and 6 pm on Sunday. We had roast dinner at one o’clock with a pudding (apple pie and custard). Then about five ish we had roast ham, Lancashire cheese, tinned salmon, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and bread and butter. After would be tinned fruit and carnation cream decanted from the tins into her best cut glass dish and cream jug.
The table would be set by any children. Happy days

Sunday Tea after Chapel and before evening service

We used to have a high tea in Scotland , early 1960's.
The table set beautifully and a sort of gauze cloth over the top until we were ready.
Poached eggs and ham and a selection of 3 or 4 homebaked cakes. My first experience of shop bought cake was aged 10.
I suppose as you say Annie , it was between services.

Because if it’s components Oreo. It’s a larger meal than tiny sarnies and a few tiny cakes. It’s a sit down, knife and fork meal with desert
