I don't have a great deal to say on the subject apart from wanting to salute the numerous great dads out there and to say boo to those who are not so great.

My Dad was lovely, quiet, not demonstrative but very caring.
I see some of his traits in my DS.
Sorry for being a difficult teenager, Dad!

I'm sorry for all those whose fathers were unkind or worse.

I love these stories of lovely dads. How reassuring. To me it's very Enid Blyton to me which sounds ridiculous to all of you with normal dads. Mine was a violent, abusive, horrible man.

My son is a single parent to a 17 yer old lad. (his other died last October, so my so does everything for him. I had to remind him to buy a card for his Pa. How selfish is my grandson? I was appalled that he hadn't bothered?

I know Kate1949 and I was thinking of you when I wrote that.

First Father’s Day, without my lovely dad. I lit a candle & put it next his photo.
I really miss him & his lovely smile.

My wonderful father died in 2001, aged 94, just before the world trade centre attacks. I was relieved he never knew about that, as it would have made him so unhappy. His mind was sharp and alert to the end.

My husband died at the age of 40, and when one of my sons was about to become a father he said that because he didn’t really remember his own father he didn’t know to be one. I told him just to think of his grandfather (my father) and he would have the perfect role model. Indeed, my son is an excellent father to his two children.

Thank you Allira. How thoughtful. I'm glad you had a nice dad smile

My died dad almost 13 years ago. I thought in his later years we were close but looking back I'll never understand why he wasn't a better father when we were children.
He turned his back on me 3 weeks after my first husband died because we had a disagreement over my grieving daughter, then didn't speak to us for 9 months.
I was there for him when he died but I wish I could have had loving caring parents

My dad loved jokes and was very witty, whenever we get together as a family, we end up reminiscing about his jokes. I miss sharing his sense of himour!

I didn't have a wonderful Daddy and my range of step-fathers went at the end of the marriage although I mainly had good relationships when they were around. However, my husband has been a wonderful father to our son (and his) whilst my son has been too to his child with ASD.
Sadly, my son come to see me in tears. His wife has been diagnosed with a disorder which is taking over their lives, much of yesterday was spent at the hospital. With the stress of bringing up his child which is mainly his responsibility, he is finding life tough. His biological father was diagnosed as a psychopath and he is worried there is something wrong with him as he is struggling so much. I was really astonished when he said that. His problems are that he cares so much about his wife and child he hasn't got the energy for himself. It was so sad because he is a wonderful father.

3rd Father's Day without my dad who died at 90. This one seemed harder for some reason.

He wasn't a 'huggy' Dad but he would clean my shoes, fill me a hot water bottle etc. He even permed my hair once when it was fashionable!

I wish every girl had been as lucky. flowers

Bless him.

My father was just weak. I realised this many years after he had left my mother. My stepfather was wonderful, as was my father-in-law, as is DH, as is DS. I reckon I’ve done quite well overall.

Bless him.

I've just realised that I've lived as long without him as I lived with him in my life. ☹

Tess46 that’s sad flowers.
I was the youngest of 9, the baby of the family. He passed away when I was 15. He was 80 ( I think). My Mum was much younger. She passed away years later.

My father was a wonderful man and i was hugely proud of him. I so wished I had told him so before he died.

Four and a half years since my wonderful Dad died and I miss him every day. He was the very best Dad (and Grandpa) and I know how blessed I was to have had him for over sixty years. His kindness, sense of humour and zest for life made him a joy to be around.

My Dad was a gentle gentleman. Always ready to help anyone and always happily whistling.
He died 14 years ago at the age of 86 and yes, I think of him every day
I know how lucky I was to have him and my lovely mum who died when I was 38 (33 years ago).
