My darling Retriever decided to help unstack the dishwasher. He managed to pull out the entire of the bottom drawer, resulting in most of my plates being smashed to smithereens (he didn't even look a bit apologetic!). Fortunately they were only the kitchen numbers but hand painted and quite pretty.
Anyway, I bought a job lot from Tesco which suffice. It did not really register at the time but the diameter is 3 cms more than the original plates at 29 cms. I only discovered this week that they are too tall for the bottom rack of the dishwasher (which would explain why things were not coming out particularly sparkling). It is a fairly standard, full size, not very old Bosch. I shall try and find the instructions but I believe that the top shelf can be moved up a notch. However, if I do this stemmed wine glasses will not fit in.
I must have wasted about six hours trawling the internet for some fun, 25cm, kitchen dinner plates. I do not want any bowls, mugs or side plates - just dinner plates and, no, I am not paying £25 each for something which will be thrown into the kitchen cupboard and probably end up in the dog basket for lickies!!
All the plates which I have seen are between 27 and 29 cms. Who decided that this huge size should be the new norm?
No, trying to serve meat and two veg on a side plate does not work, it ends up on the tablecloth!! Much as I would love to scour second-hand shops, mobility precludes this. Anyway a lot of the older stuff has bits of gold or silver on it.
I am quite happy to buy "seconds" but I don't know where to go. Any bright ideas please?
