Lost Earring.

I lost an earring yesterday.

Not an earth shattering event, I know, but disappointing.

Trouble is, no idea when. Was it when I was doing my aquacise class, or earlier in the day at home, or when I showered and washed my hair after aqua? Only noticed it missing when drying my hair.

DH had bought them for me many years ago, not expensive, but pretty, delicate and dainty.

Have prayed to St Anthony, but don’t think he will be able to help!

Just feel a bit sad about it, shallow, I realise.

Keep searching the floor as I walk through the house.

🤞

I was in a shop trying on outfits in the changing room. Got home...only one earring. Phoned the shop and the lively lady said they were just closing but would check the changing room in the morning. Later that night I found the earring in my sleeve and resolved to call the shop first thing in the morning.
9am my phone rang. She and her husband had gone in early. Hoovered the entire shop then emptied out the hoover bag and sifted through everything with no luck.
I just couldn't bring myself to own up to having found it the night before.
I sent flowers and never went to that shop again. Too ashamed.

You never know when it might turn up. My SIL lost his wedding ring while staying with us. Had no idea where Two weeks later my other SIL came to stay and casually (didn't know it had been lost) found it in the snow outside. Hope you find yours.

That happened to my friend once and she took the remaining earring to a local jeweller who turned it into a very pretty necklace by attaching it to a chain.

I'm forever losing half of one pair of earrings. I try and keep the non lost one in case it's partner turns up somewhere. I do sometimes find the lost one

My GDs work a pool lifeguards. They say that many earrings are found in the pool. Have you asked if it has been found there?

I was given beautiful earrings for a milestone birthday.
Not long after i was looking after a friend's puppy and it was nuzzling and biting at my neck.
Realised after that an earring had gone. Looked everywhere and came to the conclusion that the puppy had swallowed.
My friend had the lovely job of watching out for it's reappearance!
I did get it back and yes i did wear it again after much soaking and steriliser!

Thank you all for your lovely responses, offering advice and commiserations for similar losses, and making me feel less guilty for fretting about a lost trinket.

Sadly, I really think my little earring is definitely gone.

I have checked the bedding, my clothes, swimming gear, the lifeguards at the pool checked the changing rooms (if it went in the pool, I think it went down the filters), DH searched the shower trap, I scan the floor as I walk round….

As I mentioned in my OP, I just don’t know when it went missing, usually I frequently ‘check’ my ears to see if my earrings are there but just when it mattered, I have no idea if it were in the house, garden, pool, shower….

But I won’t give up hope.

I may even wear the remaining one with a wishbone one which lost its mate many years ago….

DH lost his wedding ring in a swimming pool.
The owners of the resort found it in the filter and couriered it to the next place we were staying.

Thing is though, my dainty little earring is tiny compared to a wedding ring. Plus I really don’t know if it was even in my ear when I went to aquacise, unfortunately.

Oh dear.

I've lost a few, often one of a favourite pair at the time.

I lost one of a favourite pair of earrings somewhere between the dentist's and home. I asked at the dental practice but they hadn't found one. They were a pair of diamonique studs.

Definitely try pinning the devil by jabbing a pin into an armchair 3 times focusing on where you last remember having the item. Then try not to think about it for a while.
Found a number of important items this way, a ring, even a friends glastonbury ticket that had slipped into a leaflet I had been given. I got up early and had a last look for it on the day of departure.
Hope you find it

If you haven't emptied your hoover is it among the dust?

Diffuser Fri 20-Jun-25 16:05:21

I lost my wedding ring a while ago and searched high and low for a long time, but no luck.

I was sitting on the bed with my granddaughter playing hotels (as you do) when she spotted something down the side of the bed. It was my ring, totally covered in dust, but it was there 🙂. We'd been playing jewellery shops months before and it must have slipped down there.

Things can often turn up unexpectedly, so fingers crossed your earring does.

UPDATE!!!!

I have found my lost earring!

I was in the bedroom where I dry my hair, just looked down on the floor, and there it was! I knew it was the missing one, as I had sadly filed away the other one in my jewellery case. But I had checked and checked the floor!

Grateful thanks to St Anthony, the pin devil, and all of you for your wonderful support.

Nil desperandum!

Totally true story. About 20 years ago when I was working in Retail as a shop manager I was on till duty and a woman came in ''frantic'' asking if I'd seen her earring back that she'd lost somewhere, A WEEK AGO, might in in my shop, or in the street or the public loo or the bakery, the bus or a taxi or train ....

Not the actual earring itself, but the tiny little ''B'' shaped bit at the back!

I explained it's so small it would be just about impossible to find it and it might be stuck to the bottom of someone's shoe and could actually be miles away by now and I haven't got the time or inclination to look for it that might or might not be in my shop!

I tried to be polite but I was also gob smacked! She was FURIOUS that I wouldn't look for it and stomped out!

Lady, just go to a jewellery shop and ask if they sell bags of them as some do!

Yippee!

Now I can tell you that I found my hearing aid that I lost on the same day that you lost your earring.

I found it on the passenger seat of my car.

I didn’t want to gloat 😬🎉🎉

I was walking my little grandson home from school, hand in hand, a few years ago. He suddenly stopped, walked back a few steps and picked something up from the pavement. “It’s your earring Granny” he said. Quite a small one, it had slipped out as we walked and I hadn’t noticed. But he had!

I feel your pain. Many lost - and found - over the years. I do keep the single one left - my husband randomly got one ear pierced when he retired so he wears some of the studs ! He’s not into dangly ones …! I still have the pair he gave me on my 20 th birthday 50 years ago and have worn them frequently over the years , so pleased about that. I lost a gold stud my mother gave me and found it sitting on the bathroom drain cover outside a week later ! That was 45 years ago and I’ve still got the pair !
