Lost Earring.

I lost an earring yesterday.

Not an earth shattering event, I know, but disappointing.

Trouble is, no idea when. Was it when I was doing my aquacise class, or earlier in the day at home, or when I showered and washed my hair after aqua? Only noticed it missing when drying my hair.

DH had bought them for me many years ago, not expensive, but pretty, delicate and dainty.

Have prayed to St Anthony, but don’t think he will be able to help!

Just feel a bit sad about it, shallow, I realise.

Keep searching the floor as I walk through the house.

🤞

That's such a shame. I thought I had lost my wedding ring, but it turned up in a finger of my washing up gloves.

Have you checked all your clothes, swim suit, towels, hair brush? Anything which may have come close to your ears. I expect you have checked everything.

I do hope it turns up

I feel your pain. There's something so sad about being left with just one much loved ear ring. I lost a beautiful intricate silver hoop walking the dog last winter. I think it caught on my coat hood which I had up as it was wet and windy, I still find myself searching for it when I take the same walk. Mismatched ear rings are supposed to be fashionable but it's not my style although I have worn it on it's own because I love it so much.

I’ve lost quite a few over the years, including a big pearl and an emerald drop which I lost in Harrogate.
What I don’t understand is why I’ve kept the other, even though I know it’s ’mate’ isn’t going to turn up 10 years later!

I was in the garden and realised I’d lost an earring. I was comforted by the fact I knew it was at home. Much later that day I was washing my hair in the shower and it fell out of my hair. So lucky it didn’t go down the plug hole.

I hope yours turns up.

I'd been having lunch with a friend when I realised I was wearing only one earring. We retraced our steps and searched the restaurant where we ate. Giving up hope. I went home and... on the bottom step of the stairs there was my missing earring.

Like others I have lost earrings over the years. Several times I’ve found the missing much later one caught up in necklaces or scarves. Also if they fall onto the floor it’s easy for them to be kicked under furniture.

Maggiemaybe Thu 19-Jun-25 08:44:06

I hope you find it. 🤞

I’ve lost, and found, so many earrings over the years, so I never throw a single one away. One even managed to slip between floorboards and ended up on the coal cellar floor.

I’m missing a pearl one at the moment. I haven’t worn it for ages, so goodness knows how it’s escaped the jewellery box.

I lost a star stud earring that my lovely late ex mother in law gave me. She carried on being a great support to me even after the divorce. It really made me sad OP. More recently I lost a lovely silver and blue shell one that my husband had bought me. He’s a bit clueless with presents but cracked it with this one. I lost it trying on clothes in town so retraced all my steps. I’d almost given up, when I saw it glittering at me from the aisle of a shop, looked like it was calling to me! 😂 I was so happy.

I never wear ear-rings in the water and never in the shower. I feel your pain though.

A note of hope - my grandson visited recently and he likes to take a book and read on the stairs. I noticed my favourite ear-rings suddenly appear on the table. He said he just saw them in the carpet on the stairs and picked them up! I don't know how but even after vacuuming a few times those ear-rings I thought I had lost where there all along!

So my advice is if you have grandchildren get them to look around! Or sit on the stairs and read a book for a while!
Hope they turn up somewhere completely unexpected for you.

I was, and still am, a fundraiser for a couple of small local charities. I had a brainwave one day - collecting the one remaining earring from a lost pair. Couldn't get it off the ground though. 🤔

Oh that is such a shame.
I do hope you find it.

I've lost a few over the years and I don't know why but I also keep the odd single ones.

luluaugust Thu 19-Jun-25 11:25:48

Georgesgran I always keep the single earring. Such a good idea Still

Another ray of hope. Not an earring, but a jigsaw piece I thought was missing. I check them for a charity jigsaw festival and it’s always annoying when there’s one piece missing and the puzzle can’t be sold. Days later DH noticed this particular piece lying on the path of his allotment site. He’d obviously picked it up in the sole of his boots and it had ended up there. Nil desperandum, Calendargirl!

Many years ago My friend complained she had lost an earring. A couple of days later I saw it outside a Woolworths in the town centre. The odds on that must have been quite something.

When I lose something I was told to say "Stick a pin and find the devil" 3 times. Coincidence or not things have been found. Lol.

Sheian57 Thu 19-Jun-25 14:02:21

It might have become caught in your clothing. Check. It happens to me a lot

Bookfan Thu 19-Jun-25 14:09:05

It’s worth checking the soles on your shoes and slippers- I found a lost earring stuck in the sole of a slipper 😀

sharon103 Thu 19-Jun-25 14:13:16

I've lost earrings. I think they go to where all those lost socks go.
I once found one in my bed. Have you looked there?

Diplomat Thu 19-Jun-25 14:25:18

I lost a little diamond earring. My mother bought them for me. I might have the one I still have made up into a necklace. Also just to say, the diamond once fell out of my engagement ring but luckily it landed on
the wooden floor at home and I heard it, so please get clasps checked occasionally.

LaTroisette Thu 19-Jun-25 14:31:01

Top tip. Get some additional piercings, then style your ears with odd earrings.

Lathyrus3 Thu 19-Jun-25 14:38:31

In the shower trap?

Could be, or is it in the washing machine ? Or in the filter?

I've lost earrings over the years but have never found one again!

Now I am remembering twice losing jewellery but not reacting at the time. Rushing for a train I ‘sort of’ felt something go. Safely seated I realised I was wearing a broken slim silver chain around my neck but not the initial it had held. Making for the gift shop of a museum after a tiring day teaching I thought I had kicked something on the floor. Back home I realised I had lost a lovely flower earring, a Mothering Sunday present.
On the other hand after searching a school hall and corridors, plus grass verges outside and asking cleaners to keep an eye open for a tiny silver Tiffany earring I found it. When I got undressed for bed it fell out of my clothes. Now I am remembering the pearl earring which dropped down a hotel plug hole. I asked nicely for someone to look in the piping but I don't think they did. An offer of a reward might have helped!

AuntieE Thu 19-Jun-25 15:09:32

Not shallow at all. You liked the earrings and they were a present from your husband, so it is natural to feel sad.

I hope it turns up.

I had a full-scale panic attack yesterday evening, when I realised my wedding ring was n ot on my finger.

Fortunately, St. Anthony obliged and told me to go and chech my gardening gloves! Found my ring, dashed into kitchen again and lit night lights in front of St. Anthony, St. Rita and Our Lady.
