Turnips in my opinion are small and white with a purple blush.

I suppose there are quite a few foods which are like that though - let's not even start on the 'bread roll' debate! Or how do you pronounce scone?

Microwaved tinned potatoes once in a bowl with a plate on top. Plate flew up in the air and exploded potatoes everywhere!

Dare I ask? - did swedes originate in Sweden?
(I was brought up to think turnips were the big ones that are used as sheep and cattle food, and swedes are the smaller lighter coloured ones.)
I was born just before ww2 and we ate both types in stews and pasties along with lots of carrots and potatoes.
