We went a couple of months ago - tide was out in the middle of the day & it is a long & very muddy walk to the sea !!

Last time I went to Camber Sands was 1966, it was lovely. Full of nothing but sand but in the distance I spotted a castle, we all trekked along the beach and lo and behold it was a castle all built for one of the Carry On films. It was just painted would but we had a lot of laughs larking about in it.

I thought the beach was closed because of pollution? Worth checking before you go.

A favourite beach of mine. You will enjoy it

Camber Sands is terrific if (a) you are under 20 and fit or (b) you have obedient dogs with excellent recall! The tide really does go out for miles. When it is in, it is not possible to swim because the water is only about 10" deep, if that. Very flat. Also the local authority increased the parking charges last year to an astronomical level. I think it went up to £35.

Rye is lovely (but hilly) but as previous posters have said - wear sensible shoes! A couple of years ago the local council wanted to concrete over the cobbles for elf and safety reasons. There was outrage, oddly enough!

The other option, of course, is to go to Rye and have a splendid lunch in the Mermaid Inn!!

I went on a trip which included time in Rye. Most interesting and attractive little town, but many of the less mobile in our party simply pootled along the main street then settled down in a cafe. They found the streets too hilly, not helped by the cobbles, so missed the church and castle.

It us lovely but for remember that you need to take your picnic and plenty of water ic you are spending a log of yome on yhe beach. The beach is soft sand, so not good for sandcastles unless the tide is low enough. The water is great but it shelves so you need to be very careful if non swimmers.
Rye has numerous interesting curio / antique shops. There are dome great places to eat. It is well worth depending time yo explore. The Mermaid Inn is up a steep cobbled hill. There is a lot to see and do. Have a great time.

Not at Camber, it has sand dunes and then sand. No mud. I live in Sussex. You must be thinking of somewhere else?

Deedaa

For any pony fans it's the setting for Monica Edwards' Tamzin and Rissa books.

I'd forgotten all about these books until I read your comment. I seem to remember one book where the characters on horses dressed up as ghosts to frighten the villains away!

There’s a beautiful hotel called The Gallivant near the beach in Camber. The food is excellent and if you go on their website you can order a superb picnic 😋

I agree with you about The Gallivant. My daughter and I had a lovely time there. Especially going through their gins 😂
