To debate or say "Indeed"

Yesterday I was discussing weight loss injections with a relative who has just lost 22lbs on the carnivore diet. He was totally against this diet when DH started it just after Christmas, now is loving results. However after watching something on TV about WLI (think it was Tonight), he's now an 'expert' on the dangers of the injections.
Having read lots about it over the last few months and spoken to nurse at our health centre I was about to mention what I've researched. Then I thought, I just can't be bothered so replied "Indeed"

Is it my age ?(almost 64), is it now I'm retired and spend most of my time at home with my dog?

I just can't be bothered with people 😕

I don't mean for this to be a debate on WLI more about discussing different opinions

You can't debate with someone who knows everything!

"Indeed" is an appropriate response. 😂

I have noticed this before in life.

Someone who pntificates against something, changes their mind, and then they have a need to be a "leader" in the opposite direction.

Thank you, feel better now
I couldn't (and obviously didn't) have put it better myself lol

St Paul being a prime example😬

My mother n law would say ‘If you say so” but I like “Indeed” much better.

My go to phrase from now on.😀

Allira Thu 26-Jun-25 11:50:16

Yes, I'll remember that one 😀

Life is too short to bother.

I have been lectured on many subjects, I have been interested in and researched, over the years and had things explained to me in terms simple enough for me to understand. This often takes the form of ramming their opinions down my throat as if they were facts. I usually just nod and smile, it's easier, especially as they are only concerned with their own views and not interested in anything I have to say on the subject.

LauraNorderr Thu 26-Jun-25 11:53:29

Indeed

Allira Thu 26-Jun-25 11:59:24

😁

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-Jun-25 12:20:27

I nod and smile in most circumstances like this.

If I know someone is stating something that I am 100% sure is wrong/untrue my go to phrase is I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

Ziggy62 Thu 26-Jun-25 12:22:55

smile

Oreo Thu 26-Jun-25 13:31:31

You may think so but I can’t possibly comment😄

Norah Thu 26-Jun-25 13:44:37

"Oh" nod and smile.

Galaxy Thu 26-Jun-25 15:36:24

To be fair looking at the latest news report your friend may have a point.

Allira Thu 26-Jun-25 15:38:25

Norah

"Oh" nod and smile.

I have a friend who says "Oh, goodness"🙂, particularly when another of our friends comes out with something odd!

Commonground Thu 26-Jun-25 15:41:50

I find "Mmm" very useful!

Beechnut Thu 26-Jun-25 15:53:52

I have been a nod, agree smile person for most of my life. I do have one friend who likes to give her opinion on things but she can be such a Debbie Downer. This affects my mood so I am slowly coming round to challenging her on things she says.

Claremont Thu 26-Jun-25 16:51:15

Personally, I use 'indeed' in a totally different way, to say I approve of the comment made.

In the above case I'd probably, hmmm interesting!

silverlining48 Thu 26-Jun-25 16:56:29

Yes I use ‘indeed’ in the same way Claremont.

I laughed at this, because that's exactly what my husband says I always do!

Rather like a born again smoker !

AmberGran Thu 26-Jun-25 17:24:49

Indeed.

I long ago stopped debating with people. Most people don't listen anyway, just want to get their point across.

Mollygo Thu 26-Jun-25 17:59:42

Mmm was my go-to response, but I like indeed implies more gravitas.

Astitchintime Thu 26-Jun-25 18:14:15

I just respond with ‘that’s nice’…..any fans of Mrs Brown’s boys will know exactly what that means 😉
