I’ve been gone a long time!

You and me both!

I’ve never been one for make up apart from in my teens, so no change there. In the corporate world I was suited, heeled and coordinated, my second career allowed more flexibility
Since early retirement I’m now now in jeans, shorts and the odd floaty frock if it’s boiling hot, ‘smart’ means linen trousers, my footwear is trainers, flip flops or bare feet.
I’m clean, hair trimmed when my fringe gets too long, comfortable and happy.
So not ‘let go’ Aveline rather let free.

I have had more days of putting on my "round the house" clothes. But, I do work quite a lot from home. I have most certainly been using less make-up.

I do remember a time I would not leave the house without my make-up on. It was somehow a very big deal and was a no-no, taught by my mum.

Nowadays, I will put a little lip gloss and some moisturiser on my face and run to the Co-Op, and not be bothered a bit.

I find that freeing, really.

I think if someone really feels they are letting themselves "go", in the line of not caring and feeling depressed, then that is worth a thought or two.

I think they could be two very different things. I have had times in my life where I felt very anxious and depressed, especially after losing my dad just after Christmas.

There were days were I didn't even brush my hair. I just was a mess and I couldn't be bothered whatsoever.

I know my mother and grandmother would say I've let myself go but I'm always clean as are my clothes. Beyond that, I don't care. I wear what's comfortable; I won't go to "dressed up" events. My midriff bulge is a bit too bulgy - but I'm happy in my skin.

I do try but when you've lost all your teeth (aged 11) and now all your hair through alopecia, like me, what's the point?

Hugs xxx

We were out last night at a very nice retirement party at a lovely hotel, so I got dressed up, hair cut and coloured on Friday, make up on, jewellery on.
BUT today I'll just brush my hair, wear moisturiser, leggings and t shirt. Have never wore make up daily, prefer jeans to dresses. Although I like to look tidy, some days I go out and wonder if people look in the mirror before they leave the house lol

I'm always clean and take care of my teeth but that's about it.

I love the fashion for trainers so I can wear comfy footwear without appearing to have let myself go - at least footwear wise.

I am having a long lie in bed this morning so I must certainly be on the slippery slope to slobsville.

I think it depends on your personal interpretation of "let yourself go". My mother would think I have, because I no longer wear fitted, uncomfortable clothes, heels, smart suits and the like. I would say I had let myself go if I didn't look after my body, skin, cleanliness and lifestyle. I enjoy wearing shorts, jeans and tees, barefoot shoes and sandals, leggings and the like and can throw the odd comfortable dress in when required. I'm always clean and my hair is styled. Minimal makeup finishes off my (slightly bohemian) look. Mother would say I was scruffy though, but who cares!

Me too, Taichinan. I feel much better if I slap on a bit of make up, and earrings etc. It's worth the effort to me and cheers me up, just a bit.
But each to his own, we are all different.

I have "let myself go days" too. But I have to say that I feel better on days when I make a bit of an effort - I don't get such a nasty shock when I see myself in the mirror!!

It’s being happy in your own skin that’s important.

If you are content and not concerned, don’t worry.

I had a thought this morning as I got into my unironed trousers and top and shook my hair: I've let myself go. I gave up on make up, won't wear uncomfortable clothes and definitely no uncomfortable shoes no matter what they look like.
I'm quite happy. I don't care about 'being judged'. Maybe it's the confidence of older age or maybe I'm just a slob. Is it just me?
