I am going on a 5day coach trip to western super mare in July. I'm not sure what clothes to take with me. At the moment we have this beautiful weather but it could all change by the time I go. I'm going with a friend to a pontins holiday camp so not a luxury break. What would you take clothes wise. There is entertainment every evening and we have an excursion to Cheddar Gorge and Bath. Should I cater for possible chillier, wet weather or just pack my summer clothes. I dont want to take loads that i will bring back unworn. What would you take???

Avocadofan Mon 30-Jun-25 07:59:06

Depends when in July. Keep an eye on the forecast just before you leave, as it could be showery, but warm. I'd take mostly summer clothing, with a light cardigan/jacket for cooler days. I always tend to overpack, but with the unpredictable British weather it can be hard to know what to take. Enjoy your trip.

You will probably wear same clothes going as going home, I usually take a different top a day, that's three, two bottoms, or substitute for two dresses if you prefer. Then two changes for evening with an extra top or substitute dresses. Always, put a lightweight hoody orvjumper in and a waterproof unless hot weather guaranteed. You never need as much as you think. Comfy trainers and sandals day and or shoes evening and a bag.plus underwear and nightwear.sun hat a must.

Keep an eye on the forecast just before you leave,

That is what I do.

Watch the forecast and plan accordingly. Layers are the way to go. I’d say allsorts is about right. Depending on space I often take a ‘just in case’ top and spare trousers ‘just in case’ I empty a cuppa down my front. It’s been known grin. Don’t worry too much, there are shops wherever you go, you’ll find a whole range of clothing appear on others. Just enjoy your break.

If you’re going along the seafront a hat that stays put, we’ve just been there, if it’s windy the sand blows up too, trousers required!
Trainers definitely, a lightweight waterproof and a jumper.

Yes, I usually look at the advance forecast (usually two weeks) and plan accordingly just before I go.

I only ever pack on the day anyway as I hate packing. It does sound as if there will be plenty of indoor activities anyway so I wouldn't plan too much for rain, as you can always stay indoors.

Whatever, I hope you have a lovely break.

We haven’t been away for some time but I look at the weather forecast, most apps have a 7 or 10 day forecast, and I am a last minute packer anyway. The advice from Allsorts is good, I always take too much.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 30-Jun-25 09:22:06

I am going away in the UK for five days in August, I will pack for every conceivable weather event.

Including a lightweight foldable rain coat (Joules) umbrella, trainers, sandals, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, linen shirts and trousers, a couple of lightweight sweaters. If the forecast is good, I will add long linen dresses. Obviously undies and nightwear, including slippers (I am wary of hotel floors, and do not go barefoot if they are carpeted)

Calendargirl Mon 30-Jun-25 10:06:41

If it’s a coach trip, you won’t need to worry too much about weight. (But don’t go mad!)

I assume the coach drivers will see to the luggage, and possibly porterage where you stay.

I tend to take too much, but you can always bring it back unworn, not a problem.

MickyT Mon 30-Jun-25 10:17:48

I think the weather is going to be quite kind, take your summer clothes, but just pack a waterproof coat, and a cardigan, it maynr a bit chilly at night, and you might have a couple of showers, if your in an holiday camp, the weather isn't too much of a worry, plenty of things to do undercover

winterwhite Mon 30-Jun-25 10:49:25

I didn’t know that carpeted hotel floors were a health hazard. Will try to remember that but make day sandals double as slippers, which I hate. As I do those white towelling hotel mules.

I always find hotel rooms short on drawer space which affects my packing, and I esp dislike hotel coat hangers that come apart so I now pack my own.

When it comes to the weather forecast, they only become accurate - well, nearly - three days before. Anything beyond that is a sort of educated guesswork. So don't do your packing before that! And then tees and trousers, a warm top and maybe a stole for round your shoulders on a cool evening, sandals and trainers (you can travel wearing them as they are bulky to pack) - and the ubiquitous rainwear of course! Have a lovely time.

Layers are the way to go.

And avoid too much white if you're like me.
I wore a new white top yesterday and managed to spill dinner then coffee down it.

If they! They have been very inaccurate over the weekend.

Allira Mon 30-Jun-25 11:43:12

they?
then

It’s almost like asking ‘ how long is a piece of string’! You might need wellies or a bikini, whatever you take I hope you have a great time, I have heard good things about coach holidays.

watermeadow Mon 30-Jun-25 15:10:58

July is full-on summer so take a lightweight mac. I went to the seaside in April, which you expect to be changeable but I was cold the whole time as the bitterly cold wind never stopped.

Have a look at the weather forecast for that area ……. really easy to locate on Google

I love packing for summer holidays - an excuse to invent a fun little 'capsule' wardrobe. I also try not to overpack - having fewer clothes means dressing decisions are easier. It also means you have an excuse to buy a nice thing if you see something lovely in the local shops!

I would take

3 day tops - I like fun t-shirts

2 or 3 evening tops - at Pontins I bet people will still dress up a bit in the evenings, so I would aim for a bit of sparkle here and there.

A nice dress - the one I'm wearing at the moment is a red midi in a flowy linen jersey, really comfortable and can be dressed up or down.

A light cardigan in a neutral 'go with anything' colour, must be light and easy to carry.

A very light casual linen jacket - easy to carry and can be used for sun protection.

A long-sleeved breton top

Super-comfy trousers for the coach. Mine are joggers in a thin flowy viscose.

3 pairs linen trousers - these will do for day and evening.

A lightweight waterproof.

Two hats - a straw sunhat and a cap for windier times.

In July it is unlikely to be cold but if it is, you could be cosy in Breton, cardi and waterproof.

Walking Sandals

Trainers

Lightweight sparkly 'flip flops' that can double as slippers and evening shoes.

Have fun!

North Devon is warmer than the East or Midlands, but often wetter. You need a pac-a-mac and small sun cream in a bag, as the weather changes from morning to afternoon. Be aware that there is offshore breeze there, so it may be cooler than the sun suggests, so sun creme even if you think it is not so hot.

Wellies. The sea goes out miles and it is very muddy .

twinnytwin Tue 01-Jul-25 16:13:50

Kayta - you're a person after my own heart. I love having lots of clothes and shoes to choose from on holiday. I make my own clothes so usually have a different outfit/dress for each evening, and many "just in case" tops and trousers/skirts. It's all part of my holiday enjoyment. I'm going away at the end of August and am holding myself back from starting to pack! I'm busy making lots of sleeveless dresses as it's Spain (as if I haven't got lots already). I love clothes.

4allweknow Tue 01-Jul-25 16:46:28

Take your summer clothes along with a couple of long length carifans you would use say walking to evening evens. Also a jacket you would wear at home if raining. Enjoy your holiday, hope all goes well.

butterandjam Tue 01-Jul-25 16:50:37

For outings; A cagoul and collapsible umbrella; water bottle, cardigan, and a v. light backpack to carry them in. Wear comfy flat walking shoes and socks. XCWeather app on your phone, tuned to Weston Supermare.

Flip flops swimming cossie, beach towel. Pool is closed and they don't change the room towels.

Otherwise whatever you normally wear in summer, enough for one week. Casual, relaxed. comfy. Sunhat and sunglasses.

Don't expect much storage space for clothes.

From the accommodation to reach everything else, (dining hall, activities, entertainment) ALL requires walking to and from, outside in the open air with no shelter if it rains; and this is the west coast. Rainiest side of UK.

Do take a fold up umbrella that fits in a handbag.
