I had to put my umbrella up this afternoon.

In South West Northumberland it has been raining all afternoon and is still raining now. The temperature reaches the dizzying heights of 12°c.
I've put my winter jumper back on.

Last week, at a distance of about 70 miles my friend WhatsApped me wearing a sleeveless top, as I sat there with a thermal vest under my top whilst DD sweltered down south.

The Lake District lakes are not going to run out of water any time soon.

According to the forecast we should be in the middle of a long thunderstorm- not even one drop of rain yet.

There is cooler air coming in through the window though...which is nice.

Have stopped watering the garden, too much like hard work and a waste of time. Even the lawn has gone brown, desperate for a good downpour!

In the heatwave of 1976 I promised that if it rained within a week of my birthday, 8 th July, I would dance naked in the rain in the cul de sac where we lived. Yes, well I was a bit younger and fun loving.
I counted the days off on the calendar keeping my fingers crossed it wouldn’t rain until after St.Swithins day, On July 12th my neighbour called out there was thunder forecast, oh yes ha ha ha. The next day the 13 th in the afternoon we had the mother of storms and unceasing rain, it poured, it flooded, it lifted the man hole covers up and I stood at the window cursing and glad at the same time. Glad it was finally raining, but what about my promise. The neighbours wouldn’t let me off, I had to do it.
My husband was no help it was my own fault, my children were appalled, my mother said I was crazy but she saved the day.
I wore my daughter’s bikini, my Mothers plastic Mac over it, borrowed a big umbrella and I sang and danced in the rain to the strains of Gene Kelly, I did it and over £100 was raised for charity.
It’s still talked about to this day , it made the local newspaper, but I dont think I’ll be doing it this time I’m a bit more sensible. 😂

In 76 I had started my nurse training and didn't get a holiday from May to September! What a long hot summer that was for me- we even restricted bedbaths!

However, I came here to say we woke up to rain this morning!

Rain here on the south coast but very light. A grey and cooler day which is welcome after the intense heat. The rain won’t help the garden though as not enough of it.

Pleased to say that it’s raining here, quite light but anything’s welcome.

I remember driving along a narrow country road, in the summer of 76, when the hedge at the roads edge went up in flames. The fire kept pace with my car and was quite frightening.

Not a drop in S Hants, I saw the dark clouds pass us by about 7:30, they had some a few miles away, hose will be deployed again later.

The rest are waters.

Raining a little here in East Kent, but only light rain. It’s cooler though, thankfully. The last few days were horrendous as I don’t ‘do’ heat! Also, it was hard for my granddaughter to keep my baby great-grandson cool (she says her house is like an oven) but she managed it by bringing him to see me! My flat is on the seafront so there was a lovely breeze coming in the French windows and he was much more settled when cooler and had a lovely calm sleep.
One of my daughters and her husband went abroad last week to get some sun. They are pig-sick 😤that it’s just as sunny and hot here! Sod’s law at its best!

DD near Nottingham and DS near Lincoln have both reported rain this morning.

We’ve had some! Not exactly heavy, but the garden is certainly damp. And the temperature has plummeted, from at least the mid 30s yesterday - it was sweltering.

No sun here - yet - we have thick white cloud. Looks as if normal U.K. summer weather is back - for a while anyway.

Told you. DD got her pool up yesterday. Raining today.

Same here. I'm still in the LD, and we've had one decent day (Sunday) since we got here on 20th. The rain is so bad my signal keeps giving up, and it's far from warm.

I read, with interest, today about the alleged drought in South East Scotland!

I’m sure that years ago, we had hosepipe bans every time there was a dry spell. Here we’ve had hardly any rain since winter turned to the driest spring on record but no talk of drought or bans on watering the garden. Most people seem happy to have no rain and a heatwave or two but I’m worried about the long term results on wildlife and farmers.

It tried to rain a couple of nights ago but didn’t. So last night I decided to water the garden because everything was dying. And my dogs back from her holiday today and the grass in her part of the garden was badly scorched. Hose pipe broke so I ended up using buckets. Really hurt my arthritic hands and knee. Of course, woke up to torrential rain this morning…
