Grumpiness!!

If people can grump, or have a go at someone they do. This was never the case in earlier times.

I’m not talking about the N&P threads because they are different, I am talking about what May start off as cheerful, jolly, fellow man well met sort of threads which descend almost immediately into grump, grump moan, moan, criticise, criticise, argue, argue.

Sad isn’t it?

maddie was another in the banned cupboard I seem to recall. Imagine FGT, GSM and others in the banned cupboard together. I bet it would be never boring

If they are all together I would love to be in their club

Doodledog maddyone has been banned

Whatever for? She and I didn't agree politically, but were good friends otherwise. I can't imagine her doing something that warranted a ban.

I remember the bridal one. We all put photos of ourselves as brides. That was a good thread!

Another was the virtual parties. The first one was held as Glastonbury, I flew in with my then, young dog who provided the meat for the barbecue. Another, was at Tintagel, when I canoed around to there from the south coast. I remember that we had a Tena lady lorry accompanying us wherever we went.😄.

I’m having visions of your young dog being turned into kebabs!! 😱

No he was let loose to provide the lamb chops 😄

Sounds like one of our dogs, who came back with a lamb chop in his mouth when we were on the beach.
Apparently he ran over and looked so beseeching this family shared their picnic chops with him shock

You really were naughty pupils, but I had great affection for you all.😍
Charleygirl was DHT, she was ever so strict.

That thread helped get me through two years of shielding, otherwise I would have retreated totally from life.

this thread that has made me lol and , thanks to gg13 for posting the curse of phoenix. I enjoyed the virtual parties, the excess of virtual alcohol and genuine easy fun.

I remenber chewbacca with real affection. I expect others who were on gransnet at the time also remember that she and another kind poster were bullied and hounded. Chewi left as a result. Sorry for reminding us bad stuff happened as well

I remember so clearly when Chewbacca told me she was leaving.
Rosesarered is another one that was hounded 😥

Oh I didn't know maddyone had been banned, I used to enjoy her posts.
Does anyone know what happened to Callistemon, she was always an interesting poster.

Talking about the Argy Bargy, was that the pub that was originally opened by Pete? I used to head there for the occasional pint of wine and the banter would have me crying with laughter...shame it's closed.

It was taken on by lemongrove who no longer posts, as far as I know. A pity.
Don't tell anyone, but when it closed I smuggled The Admiral over to my house. He's proved quite useful, I can hear him putting the kettle on 😁

Anyone want to see Phoenix's (????) curse for the Idiot (otherwise known as the ar****le) She was fabulous.

Yes she was.

Even so, someone got cross about the Curse when it was reposted a while later!

kittylester Tue 01-Jul-25 15:25:34

Crumbs, I don't remember that. Seriously - what aspect of it?

FoghornLeghorn Tue 01-Jul-25 15:26:43

I’m an occasional reader and poster but I must admit that each time I’m on here I think what a miserable place it is. Sad really that there seem to be so many that can’t see the good in anything. ☹️

I haven’t seen Bonnybanko for ages 🤷🏻‍♀️ Always so upbeat and cheerful.

She is ok, no longer on here, she was suspended (if I remember correctly) and then unable to rejoin…

I’m always surprised when people say they ‘cried with laughter’ at some threads. I used to smile or maybe even chuckle a bit at some of the threads mentioned, but - seriously - crying? I guess humour is a very personal thing.

I can assure you, I was crying with laughter, something I don't do very often.

I think it was the stink bombs wot made you cry in fact.

Didn't we ever tell you? It was quite good being sent to the back of the class, you couldn't see what we were up to.

She was on the Good Morning thread a couple of weeks ago under her original username multicolouredswopshop

I have a distinct memory of a group of dreadful contributors when I first started. I very nearly left for good. They were vile, critical, sarcastic and judgemental. Never seen anything like that before or since. Thankfully they all left at the same time and flew off on their broomsticks. There are some here I totally disagree with but they are not nasty in that way and likely in real life we might even become friends because I tend to like strong minded women.

I first joined GN in 2009 and I can remember a few ghastly, unkind contributors. I've left and rejoined several times, these days the site reflects the country and world 'out there' I think.

I avoid all the political commentary these days because it's become so mealy mouthed and outright back biting, nasty and corrupt. As regards how life feels, people in the neighbourhood seem to have shut themselves away since the pandemic and lockdown and few people are willing to chat.

This morning in the local Co-op I fell into conversation with the woman behind who had a mobility scooter which was just like a three-wheel motorbike. I couldn't help admiring it and she started telling me how she had COPD and how she had been in hospital at Christmas and nearly died and how she was so grateful for the mobility scooter. The people behind and the cashiers all remained glum, silent and looking down. It's not what happens anywhere else I've been in the world. Why are people in the UK so miserable.

I don't think it's the same everywhere in the UK, Granatlast007.

People are (generally) very friendly here, shop assistants are chatty too. There are grumpy, rude people on the local Facebook page but they can be ignored.

Allira Lady Lemongrove sailed off with Lord Lemongrove in the Stiff Barnacle many years ago. I miss her. She was very funny.

I think it might have been the Elderly Poster as mentioned above. It was misandry, apparently! As were others of phoenix's hilarious threads describing Mr P's mishaps with shopping etc.
How do you make cauliflower cheese with a cabbage?

Galaxy Tue 01-Jul-25 15:38:25

She was bewildered, but no, she was never unkind or controversial.

I think the content of the threads on gransnet reflect the prevailing zeitgeist. The world is more miserable generally with very black and white arguments. Wars are prolific, the cost of living keeps rising astronomically and people are anxious about the future. There seems less give and take and social media doesn't help

Even more reason to keep our spirits up!!

Yes indeedy to spirits being kept up. I’d have a GAnd T if the argy bar was still open. As it isn’t, I’ll stay with the power of positive thinking 🧘🧘‍♀️🌞🌞💖

I can offer a nice chilled Moscato! In fact......

Beechnut Tue 01-Jul-25 15:52:40

It’s lovely here sitting in front of the fan, people watching and enjoying drinking a G&T.

Allira Tue 01-Jul-25 15:55:14

Well, DD, who is staying with us, suggested Dry July.

Thinking about it 🤔

Iam64 Tue 01-Jul-25 15:57:25

Oh no Allira - dry July - why
Daughter can crack on with this but at our age 🍷🍾
