Grumpiness!!

If people can grump, or have a go at someone they do. This was never the case in earlier times.

I’m not talking about the N&P threads because they are different, I am talking about what May start off as cheerful, jolly, fellow man well met sort of threads which descend almost immediately into grump, grump moan, moan, criticise, criticise, argue, argue.

Sad isn’t it?

It really is Whitewave. Does it reflect the general mood in our country? Radio phone ins seem full of angry, shouty people complaining about anything and everything.

We are so fortunate and a bit of positive thinking would improve things

There was a fabulously funny thread years ago, and one of the posts was about farting cats. I couldn't stop giggling.
Another beauty, with photos, was about bridal fashions in our times.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 01-Jul-25 08:39:26

I remember the bridal one. We all put photos of ourselves as brides. That was a good thread!

Another was the virtual parties. The first one was held as Glastonbury, I flew in with my then, young dog who provided the meat for the barbecue. Another, was at Tintagel, when I canoed around to there from the south coast. I remember that we had a Tena lady lorry accompanying us wherever we went.😄.

I’m having visions of your young dog being turned into kebabs!! 😱

I joined GN after the death of my mum and I was on forced rest with a fractured ankle, along with fractured bones in my foot.

The Argy used to make me laugh out loud, I also remember the wedding fashion thread.

No he was let loose to provide the lamb chops 😄

It was one of the best.
There was another one about how welcoming is your Christmas hallway, or something like that. Again, with photos.

Mamie Tue 01-Jul-25 08:46:12

You have to remember the pantomime to be a real old-timer on here. I trained the virtual dancing girls!

kittylester Tue 01-Jul-25 08:46:13

It was definitely more light hearted.

Maremia Tue 01-Jul-25 08:51:11

A pantomime, could you do it again? Oh yes you could.

Grannybags Tue 01-Jul-25 08:52:13

It is sad

These days even the Argy thread would have 'light hearted' written after it!

You can't complain about the way your DH stacks the dishwasher, hangs out the washing etc (light heartedly!)without a pile on of posters telling you how lucky you are to have a husband and stop complaining!

Marydoll Tue 01-Jul-25 08:52:26

I was a founding member of the original Argy, with a penchant for men in uniform.
Chewbacca was so witty and entertaining, I used to laugh so much, I had tears running down my cheeks.
I don't post on GN much now, I was a prolific poster, but it isn't the same as it was.

Maremia Tue 01-Jul-25 08:56:00

So far, so lovely with these memories.
You made some funny posts Marydoll, about going round a city re-enacting scenes from, was it, the Da Vince Code?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 01-Jul-25 09:03:12

Yes laughter!

I can remember giggling so much it was difficult to type.

Grammaretto Tue 01-Jul-25 09:10:22

We're not the same as we were either. Interests change as we age. I have far less interest in fashion now, more in health keeping alive
Less in babies, more in teenagers as the DGC grow up.

I love to laugh but can never remember punchlines.

No patience with quarrelsome folk though. Perhaps it's the heat?

Pantglas2 Tue 01-Jul-25 09:15:24

I remember Miss Marydoll’s Maffs Klass during lockdown with great fondness when Doodle, Squiffy, countless others and I got into bother for our norty antics 🤪.

AGAA4 Tue 01-Jul-25 09:18:48

There was a lot more fun on GN years ago. The Argy Bargy Bar was so funny. We were told by one poster's DD that her mum's last few months were spent laughing in the Argy.
Nothing much to laugh about now.

shysal Tue 01-Jul-25 09:26:28

I really miss Phoenix with her wonderful funny posts! I also remember one about Jingle giving her daughter a present of Kegel eggs for her pelvic floor.
There are not many laughs on here these days sad, but thank you to those who do provide some!

I wonder, though, WWM2 - and this is genuinely a ‘ponder’, not a challenge - if we’re remembering the past through rose tinted glasses? You know, ‘fings ain’t what they used to be’, ‘in the old days’, sort of thing? I remember the threads people have mentioned, but I can also recall threads (not N and P) that became quite argumentative, having started off as a chatty one.

Jaxjacky Tue 01-Jul-25 09:34:54

I joined in 2020 asking about new kitchen recommendations. I found topics such as the Argy like an online game/club with well established players who knew each other well.

I think you’re right, and also that board dynamics change, and we remember times based on when they included posters we liked and threads we enjoyed. Six months later, those posters may have left and new ones come along. Many people don’t like change and resent the shift. It’s the nature of things, I think - a bit like when your lovely neighbours sell up and a new family moves in with different interests from yours.

Luckygirl3 Tue 01-Jul-25 09:40:39

Or maybe we are just getting older .........

Whingey Tue 01-Jul-25 09:41:14

Farting cats?Please post a link!

I sometimes wonder what people are really like in real life. Quite different, I would think. It is sometimes hard to convey humour because someone is sure to misinterpret it and take it seriously. So I don’t bother much- in real life I tell a lot of jokes which crack people up but I wouldn’t do it here. Also I think our sense of humour is a tad different here.
