Do you have random love/hate relationships with people in the public eye?

I can't really explain what I mean but, on Breakfast this morning,Johnny Vegas, Feargal Sharkey and the man from the Bank of Dave have all been evoked that feeling.

Anyone else have similar feelings for other people? Or even understand what I'm talking about.

Pretty sure the average age on this forum has gone up.
Maybe by quite a lot.

I am not convinced many new grannies etc are joining.
If they are joining, not sure they are posting.

Alex Beresford for what he did to Piers Morgan. Deliberately baited Piers until he walked out. Im sure he was just after his job but he didnt get it. Really sly, sneaky thing to do after being invited on the breakfast show by Piers and the team.
I didnt agree with a lot of what Piers said over time especially about Meghan but he shouldnt have lost his job. He was a very entertaining presenter.
I turn over the Channel every time Alex is on.

Just posting to say I really don’t like the way people on TV are being picked out for certain attributes according to posters’ perceptions of other people they don’t even know ( with notable exceptions of those who have been found guilty of misconduct )

I realise if certain people choose to be in the public eye on TV it could be said they are open to comment, but if I really don’t like someone I just change channel or switch off. Nobody is making me watch.

I accept that threads take on a life of their own, but so few people have actually answered the original question. The love/hate response is an interesting one. I may dislike someone’s appearance but if what they are saying interests me then that’s what counts. I wouldn’t stay watching a programme that bored me just because the presenter/ actor was attractive. Even minor irritations can be overlooked if the content is worthwhile. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

I have quite a few dislikes and often it’s their voices I dislike. But I really don’t like (not their voices though, which are ok) -
Giles Brandreth (name-dropper and arrogant and a know-it-all)
Amanda Holden - beautiful, but boy does she know it!
Davina McCall - on everything and dresses too young
Carol Vorderman - what HAS she done to herself?!! Looks ridiculous. Thought she was intelligent, but she’s very wrapped up in her appearance.
Vanessa Feltz - says 10 words when one will do and very rude to callers on her radio shows - she couldn’t wait to get rid of them)
Naga - arrogant and a chip on her shoulder (although I do feel - now - some sympathy with her as she is often in pain I understand)
Holly - aren’t I sweet and pretty? - Willoughby
Lee Mack - not funny
Sara Pascoe - definitely not funny

Really like -
Phil Spencer (no-one else seems to have mentioned him?!)
Clive Myrie - great on Have I got news from you (brilliant sense of humour)
Like and dislike at same time - Brian Cox (scientist)!- he’s knowledgeable and gentle, but I find him creepy and he smiles when he’s speaking - ALL THE TIME! Aaaagh!
Also like and dislike Katie Price. She does now look like a Sphinx cat and has had far too many surgeries, but I quite like her personality and she seems very caring to her son Harvey (I know she has other children too, but Harvey comes to mind when I’ve seen her TV programmes about her life and family)
There are more likes and dislikes, but these came to mind. If I listed any more, my post would be as long as the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Cat Deeley.

razzmatazz Wed 23-Jul-25 09:15:00

Cat Deeley, and the money guy.

Dempie55 Wed 23-Jul-25 10:16:33

Sue Perkins
Andi Oliver

Have to switch TV off if either appears.

sazzl - Love or hate Piers Morgan he was spot on about Meghan. Everything he said about her being a liar, using people, manipulating people especially Harry, playing the race card etc...has all come true. Alex Beresford was disgraceful how he behaved goading Piers and should have been the one who lost his job. I like Jeremy Clarkson too, in this world of politically correct nonsense it's refreshing to hear someone speaking common sense. I reac his column in the paper on a Saturday and find myself agreeing with virtually everything he says.

Bukkie Wed 23-Jul-25 10:34:25

I like Davina and have done since I first saw her on Big Brother and she is wonderful on Long Lost Family. My husband can't stand her. I don't like the way she has promoted HRT to the point you are made to feel abnormal if you have chosen not to take it.

How do you know that when very few state their age?
The same question applies to many new grannies

Lizzie44 Wed 23-Jul-25 12:19:31

Dislike Richard Osman and Victoria Coren Mitchell - both of them smug know-alls

SheepyIzzy Wed 23-Jul-25 13:19:25

A lot On these lists are ones I don't like. We used to watch Countryfile before they ruined it and we liked Charlotte and Mirium.

Neither of them garbled or muttered, both were clear spoken and easily understandable.

Though the powers that be decided otherwise and kicked them out and replaced them with Julia Bradbury and that guy with a twang (annoying voice) who for some is easy on the eye and goes on holidays with his parents now via tv programmes!! (I always thought that strange as if anything it's showing folks ALL farmers go On holidays! I'm a small farmer, my last holiday was 22 years ago, mum when she was farming NEVER went on holiday and I know lots of GENUINE farming families and most NEVER go On holiday because it means paying someone more money than what you earn to look after the animals so you can have a break!)

Rant over

Matt Baker. He does seem like a really nice bloke and his parents seem nice, too. But I find those programmes incredibly irritating.

ClicketyClick Wed 23-Jul-25 16:43:30

Two immediately come to mind for my love/hates (or rather irritating)...
Patrick Grant - great on Sewing Bee but has this odd way of walking off set.
Keith Brymer-Jones - great pottery skills but the tears are now very much OTT.

I absolutely cannot stand Alan Titchmarsh! Everything about him makes my hackles jingle, his nose, his whiny voice, his attempt at being posher than he will ever be. Ohh and I also loath Marcus Waring (the chef). What a arrogant piece of work, with his ridiculous buffant hair-do, He seems to simmer (excuse the pun) with a glaring irritation towards any lowly civilian chef that he has the misfortune to encounter. 🤔

Woman of perception, you nailed AT and that's just the tip of the floating jobby.

Even more people on TV I don't like -

Martyn Lewis
Cat Deeley
Dermot O'Leary
Victoria Coren Mitchell
Holly Willoughby
Sue Perkins

There are not many programmes I watch these days.

Etoile2701 Thu 24-Jul-25 09:48:28

BlueBelle

Oh can I have another one I just switched the TV on and the dreadful Vanessa Feltz was laying the law down

I don't like her either and I am not a great fan of Naga Munchetty and Davina McColl or Amanda Abbington.

I really like the weather presenter Tomasz Schafernaker

Crossstitchfan Thu 24-Jul-25 12:58:57

I had forgotten about Amanda Abbington. I thought she was ok until she said such awful things about people. Now I feel she deserved all she got! What goes around etc!

nanna8 Thu 24-Jul-25 13:08:56

Miriam Margolyes. Dreadful. David Rabbitburrow. Not sure why, probably both perfectly nice people.

mrsgreenfingers56 Thu 24-Jul-25 13:13:56

Carol Klein and Kate Humble, I find them both so gushing and over the top, think to myself what the heck are these two on?

Just come across as insincere .

Do like David Attenborough (such a gent) and Simon Reeve.

But each to their own as they say!

Marg75 Thu 24-Jul-25 22:04:11

I dislike Katie Derham (the Proms).
