What’s your favourite aisle in the supermarket?

Just a bit of Friday trivia grin

Mine has to be the soap powders / fabric conditioners. Could literally spend half an hour looking at all the different brands .

Grammaretto

Lidl is my local supermarket. It's small and I wizz round to buy essentials. I walk there so have to consider what I can carry home.
I bought myself 2 treats today; a pink hydrangea and a bottle of red wine.

My other shop isn't a supermarket. It's a community owned store which has a refillery, sells artisan bread delivered from Edinburgh, Borders meat and venison, milk in glass bottles, local free range eggs and vegetables from East Lothian. Etc
They also sell my pots - I'm a potter.
Tomorrow I shall be volunteering there on the till. It's such an asset to our town.

Oh, I know exactly where you mean! I love that shop - popped in the other day when I was at the dentist and bought a few bits and bobs. I will make a point of looking at the pots next time.

The wine aisle!
Whenever DH came into town with me and caught up with me in the supermarket, he inevitably found me there...and got quite the wrong idea about me, ignoring the fact that the trolley was already full of other items.
These days, it's mostly home deliveries but I still get tempted in the wine aisles occasionally.

I loath shopping full stop. I know women are meant to love it. I hate it. I don't want to linger. I have had such trouble with rudeness by staff in Waitrose, I refuse to go there anymore. Sainsbury's, example lady probably in her 60s. Me,"excuse me where is the long life milk", reply from her "same place it's always been". Morrisons shouted at in the middle of the store by the manager. I didn't go in there for years. A couple of months ago, I saw a dress advertised £28, went in got the dress, fabric conditioner and box of chocolates £9 with the More card. Should have been about £40, got the receipt, I always check now, almost £90, I always check my receipts, she had put everything down twice, plus the chocolates were showing at the original price. I told her, she just shrugged I said could she cancel it and re scan, she said no,I'd have to go to customer service for a refund. I now shop in Lidl.

I quite enjoy "Lidle in the Middle" and Aldi's Special Buys in the middle too. My snooty brother refers to it as a jumble sale, saying, "What's that about?". I love looking at it all even if I don't buy anything though I've picked up cookery books, masonry paint etc. at bargain prices.

I very rarely encounter rudeness from any supermarket staff - do others?

Littlester, you're lucky. My oldest daughter used to be a manager of a very big Sainsbury's,I shopped there once, got served by Phil in his 70s, she said he's rude to everyone! My granddaughter 15,has ADHD and on the spectrum, you cannot see this but that's not the point. A couple of weeks ago, she went to a Heart Foundation shop with her mum,my daughter. She bought a teddy, went to the cashier, who picked it up, turned it over, and said "aren't you too old for these things". My poor granddaughter fled the shop. My daughter said if she hadn't wanted it so badly, she would have walked out. It could have been for her little sister who was in the pushchair. There is no service anymore. Mumsnet says its because folk work for minimum wage and are bitter. Well, don't take it out on the customer
Best service I had recently,Asda and I told them.

RosieandherMaw: Here in America we call that"special" aisle in Aldi "The Aisle of Shame".There's even a Facebook group by that name. It is jokingly called that because fans of that aisle are obsessed with it and admit they overspend there.

The aisle with the shortest queue for the checkout - hate shopping of any kind.

Rarely!

The staff at our Waitrose are lovely as are those in Tesco too.
Rarely get to other supermarkets except Lidl where they are pleasant but look rushed off their feet!

I also like stationary and craft aisles

Labadi0747 Fri 25-Jul-25 15:08:08

Live in Cairo so when I’m here the aisle with all the condiments & sauces is SO exciting to me. Sad but true !🤣

Neilspurgeon0 Fri 25-Jul-25 15:30:32

Like metltgran I do love to get it over and done with but… until they put those rediculous plastic doors on… I did enjoy a drool over the cheese aisle, now it is just the queue from hell

Neilspurgeon0 Fri 25-Jul-25 15:31:02

Merlot. Silly fat fingers

Knittypamela Fri 25-Jul-25 15:32:03

Books and magazines. I could spend 20 minutes just looking.

SillyNanny321 Fri 25-Jul-25 15:38:58

Thanks to all my aches dont get to shop myself very often but when I do need a crowbar to prise me away from the books. Nothing like books, books & more books!

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 25-Jul-25 15:42:15

The wine and spirit aisle. I always check if port or sweet martini is on special offer.

I’ve never encountered rudeness in a supermarket.

4allweknow Fri 25-Jul-25 16:08:30

I go in with my list, won't say I am not distracted now and then but basically that's it for me.

AuntieE Fri 25-Jul-25 16:15:13

Well, well you live and learn!

Never have I considered having a favourite part of a supermarket.

I shop strictly according to my shopping-list, and whizz through Lidl, Aldi etc. in quick time.

In my book shopping has to be done, but I do not particularly enjoy it, and I only make a meal of it, if I am buying presents for someone I am fond of.

Jaxjacky Fri 25-Jul-25 16:32:57

Perhaps you should get deliveries Pyjamagardener

Bukkie Fri 25-Jul-25 17:37:59

I find the staff in most supermarkets really helpful and friendly. The only problem I have is whenever I go to Morrisons they ALWAYS scan a few items twice. So much so I am convinced it's a company policy to do it to make a profit. Perhaps it's just my local Morrisons but it puts me going in.

pamdixon Fri 25-Jul-25 17:38:42

I have a very favourite aisle in big french supermarkets and its the one where they sell wonderful stock cubes (Knorr) that you cannot get in any other country. I could spend hours there and come home my stock cubes, loads of tins of different flavoured stock powders and other things that you just cannot buy over here. No idea why...........but in the good old days when we used to holiday to France with a car, my husband would aim for the wine section, on the way home, and I'd aim for the stock cubes etc. Not to forget the cartons of Hollandaise sauce, and various other sauces that only cost a few euros each. Simply no idea what the people at the till thought - probably mad English lady!! Not been to france for years though sadly............miss the supermarkets though!

I do like the wine aisle but get discombobulated as there is too much choice.
