l will apologise in advance for my irritability, which is beginning to show, but I think that everything about the world is so utterly dreadful at the moment, that it is definitely beginning to affect my mood.

I must somehow get a grip but it is difficult.

Yes, I’m the same. Not enjoying feeling this way.

Yes the world has gone down the path of lets look after us and ignore the suffering of everyone else.

Aveline Sat 26-Jul-25 08:44:34

Oh yes. Everything seems to be so awful right now and the people who could do something about it just don't!!

Me too WW we seem to be living under a dark cloud. Every time we turn on the news it's something else horrible and depressing going on in the world, there's no end to it

I'm a mixture of deep sadness / despair and irritability . I can't quite name my deep feelings but they are sad for our beautiful world . I can't bear hearing or watching the news , I despair at the violence and fear for the future children . To counteract these feelings I am always kind and polite and try to do good because I don't want to add to the fear that I feel for our world . We all need to be kinder to each other don't we . I find this helps me to overcome my concerns for the future of our beautiful world .

I fully agree with you 100%! Please don't apologise for your irritability, get it out of your system!

People and the world are becoming increasingly dreadful, and there is also an overwhelming amount of negativity.

An example is I'm not on Facebook, but some of my disabled residents are, and Mick, with quite bad mental health issues, who is always happy showed me this post about the great Mr Alfred Date, who, aged an incredible 110, Australia's oldest man, took up knitting in his final days to knit jumpers for injured penguins. There was a photo of him and his beautiful jumpers.

Everyone's comments were lovely and congratulating him, etc., but there was a woman who really slagged him off and put him down, saying he should know better as the wool would get wet and drown the penguins!

Various people posted replies and angry emojis to her; she well deserved them!

Whatever else happens, Whitewavemark2, I hope you have a brilliant day, and don't let the ratbags drag you down!

That's the type of dreadful thing that makes me irritable!

Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

I am also feeling this way. So hard to be positive about anything. I feel as if the world has gone mad but that there is no need for it. I hate feeling powerless and unable to change anything.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 26-Jul-25 08:54:55

Oooh I didn’t realise that people felt the same!

At least I’m in good company😊.

I don't know if the world is any darker now than it was in the past.
Mass communication 24/7 via the internet or television is dominated by reports of wars, famine, crime, corruption and bad behaviour. This, on face value seems to outweigh the positive events, good people and the improved and worthwhile outcomes which exist in our world today.

Before TV and then the internet many people lived in a relative form of ignorant bliss simply because we were not exposed to as much information.

Its understandable that exposure to so much bad stuff makes us irritable, frustrated and negative.

I feel quite depressed and angry about things going on in the world and our country,
I’m glad I’m not young and I worry for my 8 year old GD growing up in this country today.

Exactly this.
Better to stop all the constant news watching if life makes you miserable and irritated.
There’s a danger of taking it out on other people otherwise.

Yes I've noticed far more irritability - on GN.
I agree with not dwelling on the news if it makes one tetchy.

Mt61 Sat 26-Jul-25 09:18:50

I feel the same. The world is a mess at the moment. Gaza/ Israel, Russia/ Ukraine, what’s happening to the uk.
I only put the news on in the morning.
Started rewatching my classic film collection to take my mind off it all.

The world is no worse than it’s ever been - it’s just now we get so much information that people can talk about it all day long on social media ( if they choose to )

fancythat Sat 26-Jul-25 09:28:10

Watch a whole lot less news.
And pray, those who can. Is my advice.

Go outside into nature.
Think about nice things.

God is the answer. But I appreciate not many will understand that.
And I cant say much, as I dont think I would be allowed to on this forum.

All the things that happened in the past up to today in the world were no better but now, if retired you have time to dwell on it all , plus rolling news and SM.
To help your own mental health only watch the news once a day and don’t get into it on SM.
If you’re able to, get out more and do things.

I don’t do FB, X or any other those SM platforms. I only need to drive around my town, with my eyes open to see that it’s turning into a right S—hole!

JamesandJon33 Sat 26-Jul-25 09:36:43

I don’t feel irritable, just depressed. I too do not watch the news anymore. Perhaps soon the pendulum will swing the other way.

There are some very, very poor leaders around just now. Not just Europe but almost everywhere. Another war starting with Cambodia and Thailand as well as the ongoing disasters in East Europe and the Middle East. I can’t think of a single country that has a leader who sets a good example and is strong and trustworthy. Where are they?
