Fridge pickers wear big knickers!

Mine should be huge!

Today I have picked at last evenings left over lamb passanda, a quiche, pickled onions, olives and cheese.

It’s an awful habit but please tell me I’m not alone!

Grannybags Tue 29-Jul-25 14:37:22

Definitely not alone!

I'm a terrible picker. (and have quite large knickers... 😂)

I would have saved that food for the next meal or two.

ViceVersa Tue 29-Jul-25 14:55:41

Oh no, you're far from alone! Guilty as charged! grin

He temptation is well known here sago. My strategy is to keep all calling-to-me fridge contents in containers with very tight fitting lids. The sort that need several strong men or a child to open. I look, decide it’s too much hassle and as Charlie says make another meal of them instead. The bonus being I feel very virtuous grin.

I throw the food in the freezer as soon as the meal is cold. It does make me think twice to keep it for another meal, as it isn’t so handy to pick at. But it isn’t always foolproof.

My only weakness is peanuts so the fridge is safe 😁

Bukkie Tue 29-Jul-25 16:41:19

I am big picker too so you are certainly not alone.

dogsmother Tue 29-Jul-25 18:28:54

Oh yes I pick and pick, and I just love to eat, however I can also forget if I am busy.

Hey, you're a snacker, not a picker. On the plus side, I bet your food waste bin stays pretty empty. Mine does too. Why cook a new meal when there is a bit of garlic sausage, a jar of cornichons and half a cold sausage sitting there waiting to be eaten, followed by a cracker and cheese if a hole remains to be filled? And who passed a law to say it is illegal to eat what you fancy when you fancy it? So long as it isn't in addition to your official, 3 course dinner which is always consumed at precisely 7.30p.m. regardless of what has gone before.

All my fridge picking is in addition to meals😱.

My complete weakness is cold roast meat, I carve off large slices and eat them.

Northernsoulnanna Tue 29-Jul-25 19:58:25

I have a fridge magnet saying little pickers wear big knickers.😂.
It doesnt work tho.

kircubbin2000 Tue 29-Jul-25 21:55:29

My son was to call at 6.30 with a friend to help move some things so I had a sandwich earlier instead of dinner. They left about 8.00 so I decided to have my ready meal as well.

Oreo Tue 29-Jul-25 22:11:17

Pick at the fruit bowl instead of the fridge? Good for you and fibre is filling.🍏🍎🍐🥝🍌Mind you it’s still calories 😄

Is there anybody who doesn't? Irresistible. Just wish I could afford a nice roast but the price of meat is horrendous now.

I don’t 😖the thought of slices of cold roast meat makes me🤢

Nothing to pick at in our fridge, leftovers - very rare - are frozen as soon as they’ve cooled down, two meals a day is my lot, MrJ may have the odd packet of crisps.

I am obviously missing something here. Why do you cook larger portions than can be eaten at one meal, and having done so, not put the rest in the FREEZER clearly labelled for the next time you want whatever it is?

Mauduit24 Wed 30-Jul-25 14:26:18

Definitely not alone on that one!.
My late mum used to say a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips!.
I ended up piling the pounds on , only one thing for it off to slimming world I went

Because the freezers are full so lamb passanda was eaten on Monday and Tuesday……what was left!

Just done an 8 mile hike and about to clear leaves so calories burnt today!

Got the whole family this weekend, the first time all 3 of our children and ourselves have been together in 2 years, with partners and GD there will be 9 of us, the fridges will be groaning!

I'm working on eating my meals mindfully - ie sitting at my dining table and chairs and not doing anything else whilst eating. Havent managed it for breakfast yet....but I'll get there (crosses fingers hard).

Thinking that if I see three adequate plates of food in front of me each day = it will help reinforce my willpower.

When you've got 3 wardrobe rails of clothes - and that when you live in a small town countryish town = you have too many clothes. I know very well it's because I have clothes in "my size" (ie 1970s size 14) and the next size up (21st century vanity size 14) and the next size up from that (21st century vanity size 16). I've even got a couple of vanity size 18 items!!! (ie real size 20!!!). Hoping to get rid of the top two sizes and I can't cheat because I have a real size 14 swimsuit from the 1980s (modern vanity size 10-12) I can try on and see just how many bulges there are.

Bread is the thing I've got to get under control......it's a mixed blessing that several artisan breadshops have opened since I moved here.....and it will be a VERY mixed blessing indeed if anyone ever opens a Waitrose anywhere near my current location (promises to be in there the first day it opens....for all the foods I've been waiting to try but they aren't here yet).

Oh dear M&S here have a wonderful bakery all kinds of delicious breads. We do tend to share a loaf probably once a week, be it a sourdough olive or otherwise or this week it was a cheesy cottage one. Not a good habit I fear.

The OP didn't just mention leftovers - who is freezing things like pickled onions and olives?

WithNobsOnIt Wed 30-Jul-25 16:43:41

Sounds great. Can you send me some of your overs. They sound delish.

Life is meant for living. And food is meant for eating. Plus when you reach 60.

Everything is up for grabs.

Enjoy!?!

😍👍🥗🌮🍞🍰
