Good Morning Everyone ,
Its light but its grey and wet here in Brackley at the moment.
Today apart from roadwork diversions for the bus to Bicester in Brackley , to add further temporary diversion due to road closures in Bicester due to the Funeral Procession of the male firefighter .
Hopefully see friends I know in Bicester before returning home .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning Mick and everyone else. Early call this morning as the gulls across the way are having a serious quarrel. No sign of the chick fledging yet, but he does run up and down flapping his wings occasionally.
A quiet day… shopping list to do and some ironing. DH is painting the front of the house, whilst the weather is good. And my second book is published today.

grandMattie Thu 31-Jul-25 05:35:51

Good morning from a damp Bristol. Thunderstorms are forecast for the early afternoon.

DS arrived in Moshi, Tanzania, safely and without problem. One of his greatest anxieties was that he had been given a one way ticket and no visa! He was told airily that “he could buy one at the airport”. And so it turned out, very easy apparently.

Quiet afternoon after quiet FAB cafe yesterday. I’m getting on with my patchworking. I have calculated that I need 42 blocks of 9 squares for a double quilt! A bit daunting and rather discouraging as I only have 5 made to date.

I’m meeting a WI friend this morning; we are to share a room when we go to Malta in October. I hardly know her and she is totally deaf…. Will be interesting.

May those with mountains to climb, find them razed or at least, reduced; best wished to everyone. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from a mostly cloudy but warm Kent.
Yesterday I dug out some potatoes which had self sown in the compost heap. No idea what variety they were but they tasted good.
Today's main job is to paint two fence panels.
grandMattie a patchwork quilt is something I've thought about doing as they look so pretty. However, I don't have a sewing machine as I was told at school that I was hopeless at using them and I was always at the back of the queue for the machines so never got to practice. They were treadle machines so I'm guessing that modern machines are easier to use.
Best wishes to all.

Good morning from a foggy part of La Sarthe; this is the second morning we’ve awoken to an Autumnal shroud! Elsewhere on Gransnet, there was talk of the season being a month ahead in terms of what is happening in Nature.

Congratulations on having your second book published, JamesandJon33! Are you able to tell us more details?

Good to know DS arrived safely and obtained a visa easily, grandMattie.

This afternoon we shall visit a British friend who lives an hour’s drive away. She used to be in our theatre company before my time and was once a professional stunt rider for Disney Paris! A recent injury caused by a large pig at an animal sanctuary where she works resulted in spinal surgery from which she is recovering. We first met at a concert last year at our theatre and we have mutual friends here and in Torbay.

Wishing everyone a good day. 🦩💐🇫🇷🥰🦩

Good Morning from the MS coast - our forecast is for a chance of rain & 40c.

Greyduster Thu 31-Jul-25 06:38:46

Good morning Michael and all GNs. The sun is out in South Yorkshire at the moment. After my horrendous night on Tuesdays thought I would be afraid to close my eyes, but I read myself to sleep with the aid of Alan Bennett and last night was calmer.
I’ll go out with the walking group this morning, and then call in at DD’s. She will not be there - she’s running the Monsal Trail with a friend - but GS has been instructed to give me lunch. That will be interesting! In truth I’m not bothered about lunch; it will be enough to spend a little time with him.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Grammaretto Thu 31-Jul-25 06:39:04

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Cool start but it should warm up later.
I haven't much planned today but a busy weekend.

Your quilts are fabulous gMattie.
(Never too late to take up a new hobby Yogaknit)
So glad your DS arrived safely and has a visa and return ticket!

I have accepted new lodgers for my wee flat so have cancelled tomorrow's viewings which is a relief.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning from Shropshire.Dry at the moment.

A good visit with mum yesterday. Also the new estate agent seemed very dynamic so🤞🏻

Today we should be going to Liverpool with DD1 and the children but I feel unwell so will see how I feel in a couple of hours.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩🌻

Good morning from a soggy spot in south Glos, I’m delighted to see the rain 👏
I spent several hours doing more coloured pencil drawing, rather pleased with my efforts. I’m following a wonderful botanical artist called Linda Hampton and learning so much from her videos.
DH took bigger dog for her annual jabs yesterday, tiddler stayed with me and spent the afternoon asleep.
More drawing today, thunderstorms are forecast so bigger dog will be hiding poor girl, I will be happy in my Shed.
Hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Good morning from a bright and dry mid Essex. Thunderstorms are forecast for us today, the rain would be useful but I can do without the thunder & lightning!
No walk yesterday as I was waiting for my son in law to come over. He eventually arrived at 11.30 and took some things back to theirs. I’m staying at theirs for the next week looking after the dog while they’re away. I hope their flight won’t be disrupted today.
I spent the rest of the day faffing about getting organised for my week away! I’ll have to come back several times to water the veg plants as my neighbours are also away. Fortunately my DDs are only a few miles away from my house.

ash I hope you enjoy your visit to your friend.

grandmatty I’m glad your DS arrived safely in Tanzania. The patchwork project sounds quite daunting.

madeleine I hope your eye feels more comfortable today and that you’re managing the eyedrops successfully.
Thinking of those with medical appointments today, and hoping the appointments go well.
Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 13°C.
I've had a dreadful night, my chest is so congested and I felt awful.
We have BabyD today, but it will be a day in the garden. The bargains I purchased on holiday need planted and I have lost my oomph.
My angels wings plant is dying and I have no idea what is wrong. I will need to remove it.

GM, you must be so relieved that your son has arrived safely.

Yesterday it was glorious in St Andrew's, 23°C.
We popped into M&S food hall first thing, where there was an intimidating man, accosting people for money. Just as we were getting into the car, I could hear shouting. He started chasing another man round our car and DH, who was foutering as usual, hadn't noticed one of them running past him. I was urging him to get into the car and he had no idea why I was shouting at him.
I have said this before, that man lives in a parallel universe.
We I had a browse around the shops, parked at the beach, a picnic lunch the beautiful beach, then a stroll along the sands, before going home.

I found the most luxurious disabled toilet, I have ever seen.
It was the size of a small bedroom and had a shower and a trolley bed, which could be used to shower someone.
While I was using it, there was a loud banging on the door and someone persistently rattling the handle.
DH was standing outside and I thought it was him, concerned about me.
I got outside to be accosted by a lady waving a radar key. I have a key, she said and I needed to use the toilet. I too have a key, I said and I also needed to use the toilet. No apology, just a rant about the fact she had a radar key!
DH was standing nearby, oblivious to all the fuss!
We arrived home to grey skies and a drizzle of rain. Same country, totally different weather.

On arriving home, I phoned the surgery to find the reason for the umpteen missed calls on my phone.
Apparently, my GP wishes to discuss a letter he had received from Rheumatology. The first appointment available was in two weeks and the receptionist couldn't tell me the contents of the letter, which contained information on MY health.
The only thing I can think of, is that something has shown up, in my recent blood tests. My imagination is on overdrive.usually if there is a letter, there is a prescription waiting, but nothing.
I will phone the hospital today to try and find out what is going on.

I then asked for an appointment for a COPD and heart review, explaining that it was months overdue. What a palaver. The receptionist was reluctant to make an appointment, because I did not attend a hospital respiratory dept.
It was only after I explained that I had been discharged three times from the hospital clinic and had been re-referred at last year's review (no appointment as of yet) that she gave me an appointment, ........in four weeks time!
Why is it a constant battle to get support?

I wish you all a pleasant day, whatever your plans. A special mention for those with mountains to climb, physically or mentally. 💐

Good morning from a very grey and overcast day here in Kent.
DD2 and SIL are due home around midday then DD2 and DGD1 and I are off to London for an early meal before going to see Les Mis.
Yesterday the girls and I took the bus into Bromley to do a little shopping before having lunch in Pizza Express.
I'm going home tomorrow and flying out to be with DH next Thursday.
I hope today is a good one for everyone, best wishes to all xx

Good morning from Chester where it is dry and pleasantly warm.

Had a lovely day yesterday as my friend drove me round to see places from our mutual childhood.

We then went to Parkgate for a delicious ice cream which used to be a rare treat when we were children.

This morning my goddaughter is picking me up and I will meet her little girl at last. She will be five in October!

grandMattie you’re coming to Malta! Would love to meet up if you have a chance. Brave of you to share with someone you don’t know very well but it could work out well. I hardly knew Galen the first time she invited me to join her on a cruise but we went on to enjoy many more cruises together and I saw places I would never have dreamed of.

Hope you all have a good day.☀️

Good morning from s somerset, cloudy and drizzle all day

I did a lot more work than I had planned yesterday, typical me, one thing leads to another. Anyway my house is clean and tidy and my food storage is sorted as is my `pull out` larder. I dislike that cupboard so much. I don`t trust heavy weight at the top and it only pulls out 6 inches. I once had to put two more screws into the bottom rail as it was unsafe

I now have dedicated room in my garage to store my squashes in october and also my apples as I have a special wooden apple store, with slatted drawers

I made some delicious dahl, the full works and spices with a beautiful taste. Four frozen and two in the fridge. I just add frozen rice to that and re-heat. Ocado came and everything went onto my dining table, it was such a little pile for the money but it did contain sumatra coffee beans and some special (eating) oil, both are treats

My two humidifiers were dismantled and thoroughly cleaned, for that I have to use citric acid solution. I put them away and easily got them both onto my wardrobe top shelf, they will stay there until humidity gets low again. I could be taking them out again when the ch comes on, otherwise I get gritty eyes and I do keep an eye on indoor humidity. I am appreciating the `empty` spaces, makes it so much easier to put things away, like the humidifiers

The washing was all done and put away and the garage tidied and that just leaves my sewing room and machines. Time today for me to do the run-down ie cleaning and oiling, binning needles etc. I never did finish my pattern sorting and still have a small pile but I will do those as the mood takes me during the colder months. There won`t be any more major sewing until next spring, I have my boxed kits ready if I want something to do over winter

I have been eying up my spinning wheel, I still have a bit of my last batch of tops (unspun fibre) to spin and I will need to make plied yarn, then into skeins of 3 ply yarn to soak and thwack before hanging to dry, must do that while I can still get things dry outside. I thwack each skein on a garden chair, they straighten beautifully and the soaking makes the fibre bloom. The remaining process can be done indoors in any weather

Aches are dissipating, I did a lot of work on my muscles to alleviate my hip pain, it is not bone on bone, The ache is now more spread out over two hips and lower back but a lot less. I need to watch how I lift and carry heavy things and to stop favouring my right side. The aches will go as long as I keep moving and stretching and I will be starting today with a walk up a hill, not done that for some time and I like to see the changes on my round

I am watching a young jackdaw on my fence, they love my garden and my water feature, it won`t be long before they start cracking nuts at the top of my roof and on my fence, you can hear the banging all through upstairs Clever creatures

Have a good day

Marydoll Thu 31-Jul-25 07:01:59

Susan, I hope you feel well enough to go out. Chronic heath problems, make it so difficult to make plans.💐

kittylester Thu 31-Jul-25 07:05:08

Good morning all from a damp North Leicestershire.

Our Stressless Chairs are being delivered today and we have paid to have the (very!) old sofa removed by them. Sadly the carpet will not be fitted until the end of the month. I feel a cushion buying opportunity arriving.

My eye injection was fine but the 24 hours of not bending is difficult to obey.

DGS1 has bought a car ready for starting his apprenticeship next month and DGD4 has had her nails painted. It's all happening here.

Thinking of the soops.

Have the best day possible everyone.

harrigran Thu 31-Jul-25 07:12:48

Good morning from a grey NE.
Lunch out yesterday was very nice, the restaurant was fairly quiet which meant we could hold a conversation.
When my sisters went home I was going to settle down with a cup of tea in front of the TV but unfortunately we had a power cut. It didn't last long but it meant I had to reset the ovens which is fiddly.
SIL arrived in the UK yesterday and is visiting today, we will do a big shop.
My water is going to be turned off at 9am and will be off all morning so I need to get myself into the bathroom.
Have a good day.

GrannyIvy Thu 31-Jul-25 07:19:04

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where another grey drizzly day is looking likely but not enough rain to do the garden any good I suspect!

I am off to Pilates this morning, an early one do need to get moving. Over the summer we have some extra mixed ability classes. I then need to be home for our new back gate to be delivered and my Ocado shop. I’m enjoying having an online delivery once a week and just top up from the farm shop for fresh meat.

Thinking of those with difficulties and hope today will be a good day for all. Onwards and upwards 🌻

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 31-Jul-25 07:31:12

Morning all from a damp West Oxfordshire.

Well, I had a good haircut yesterday. I also collected my latest print and it’s on my bedroom wall. Just one print to go but the artist won’t send it to me until the summer exhibition is over in August.

I helped OH jar 50 or more jars of honey. Some will be for friends and family and we’ll sell the rest,

OH is hoping to get some more honey from his hives today. It depends on the weather. If it is raining the bees stay in and won’t want to be disturbed!

It is my Book Group today. The theme is a biography of someone we don’t know much about. I chose the official biography of Dirk Bogarde. Dear me! 1700 + pages of absolutely in depth information of this man’s life. I’m only half way through.

Have a good day. I do hope you get some answers MD.

cornergran Thu 31-Jul-25 07:35:10

Morning Mick , morning All, from a drizzly corner of Somerset. A storm storm warning here too, we’ll see.

Yesterday passed peacefully, we were out for the morning and settled with books in the afternoon. A quiet one ahead today too, I may try to sleep for a while after a worse than usual night.

Special thoughts go to the soops and all with personal mountains to climb

Have the best day you can everyone.

NannyJan53 Thu 31-Jul-25 07:36:19

Good morning from a dull and grey Black Country, where rain is predicted for this morning.

A pleasant day yesterday with my friend at Dudmaston Hall, a NT property. It was mostly dull but very warm. Lovely guided tour around the garden, which lasted an hour. Walk around the house, and lunch in the garden.

Walking group walk this morning, then over to Mum's this afternoon to take her food shopping.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Jaxjacky Thu 31-Jul-25 07:38:20

Morning, high cloud in S Hants, im hoping for storms but they often skirt us.
Congratulations JamesandJon pray tell more.
You must be looking forward to seeing your other half Sar.
Yesterday was warm and clammy, washing dried, MrJ ironed it all, even jeans which I’ve never done.
I went to book club at our village library, the new book looks rather ‘deep’.
Today I’ll get a curry going in the slow cooker, chicken, lentil and I’ve spinach growing so I’ll chuck some in. Double check my grocery list for tomorrow’s delivery and clean bathrooms.
Thoughts with those who aren’t too well, sad to hear last night soop is very poorly 😕

Good morning from a wet W Kent. Last art group until September this morning and then getting ready for the arrival of DB tomorrow. DS and DIL are off on holiday today first time without the children.
Best wishes
