Exhausted by the summer

Does anyone feel like me? I feel absolutely drained by the summer. I can't sleep, I go shopping and I'm so hot and sweaty. I really have had enough now

buffyfly9 Fri 01-Aug-25 21:05:44

I'm with you Biscuitmuncher, I can't wait for winter, I've had enough of the oppressive heat, the humidity, the airless nights and the flies, there seem to be more this year. Roll on lighting the fire, toasted crumpets and a nice cup of tea.

Luckily storm Floris is on its way!!

Oh no!

I prefer temperatures lower than about 25C but over 20C and dislike having to get all bundled up in winter.

Autumn can be rather depressing, thinking of the short, dark days ahead.

Grandma70s Fri 01-Aug-25 21:12:45

Well, I don’t agree, BlueBelle! I find summer depressing, not winter. I don’t like the long days. It should be dark when I sleep.

Bukkie Fri 01-Aug-25 21:26:20

I know I am in the minority but I prefer dark nights. It's so lovely to shut the curtains, put the log burner on and shut the world out. Autumn is beautiful and Strictly and All Creatures Great and Small are back on the television.Light nights bring out the anti social behaviour in people.

Casdon Fri 01-Aug-25 21:40:12

We only really get three months of light nights, it’s almost dark now by 10pm, and it’s only 1st August. It’s also cool at night most of the time, we haven’t had more than about 15 really warm nights so far. Compare that with nine months of dark nights, and at least 300 cool nights a year and decide who has the most cause to complain - it’s we summer lovers.

Georgesgran Fri 01-Aug-25 21:44:18

Black dark here with dusk to dawn lights on already.

Shinamae Fri 01-Aug-25 21:45:12

I absolutely love winter weather, I love the rain and I love the wind and I don’t mind the cold because I can always wrap up against it. when it’s muggy like it has been for a long time now there’s nothing I can do about it and I find it very difficult to sleep and it makes me lethargic so roll on winter. I can’t wait for it to be dark at 5.30 blowing a gale and pouriing with rain .⛈️🌧️☃️💨💨

Hilltop Fri 01-Aug-25 21:49:27

If going out shopping is a problem, OP, get it delivered. When my online shopping is put in my hall, ocado, so in bags, l think of the effort I've saved myself. Not having to traipse around in the hot sunshine.

Bukkie Fri 01-Aug-25 21:58:28

Shinamae - I have found my kindred spiritsmile Owing to most people preferring summer and light nights, it's hard to find people who understand. I actually think I have the opposite of SAD. I get anxious from March onwards as it gets lighter and start to relax from September onwards.

We decided to eat outside and it felt really cool this evening.

I really look forward to September and the oncoming Autumn.
The crisp mornings, fresh air , the smell of the season changing, cosy clothes, lighting the woodburner, and drawing down the blinds.
Long walks that don’t sap my energy and the beautiful countryside with changing colours.
Grandma70 summer is just too extrovert! 🤣. Perfect!

It’s strange that I too am a summer baby, GG’s twin but summer is my least favourite season. It drains me and leaves me tired and listless.

M0nica Fri 01-Aug-25 22:42:59

i am summer born, but i do not like summer. I love Autumn and winter. Winter may be miserable to you, Bluebelle, but I loe it.

The last few days the weather has been pleasant and cool, but our fairly complicated house move took place during the heat wave, those days when the tepmperature was over 33 degrees and I was nearly at breaking point. The heat clouded my brain, made it difficult to cope with the physical activity associated with moving out of a previous home. I was permanently exhausted.

It certainly is here, I just looked at the weather forecast, and it’s going to be 7 degrees overnight. In August.

Not sure where you are Casdon but here on the east coast it’s warm most nights at the moment.
It was 21 degrees indoors tonight at 10pm, that’s with the back door and windows open all evening.

It could be 11C here.

I might sleep better!

I’m in Wales. The weather here would suit those of you who like cold, wet weather for most of the year.

eazybee Sat 02-Aug-25 08:53:01

I am enjoying the summer weather, even though I don't sleep well at night, and the soil in the garden is like concrete and prohibits much gardening. The summer season does not last long, shame to wish it away.

BlueBelle Sat 02-Aug-25 09:02:27

I quite understand people like different things and that’s totally fine of course BUT what gets me going is the fact we have so little summer so little warmth and light and yet still you ‘winter people’ begrudge us every ounce of sun every bit of warmth and you long for the 9 or 10 months of cold wet miserable and grey winter

Can’t you just be glad for us and allow us just this tiny period of light and warmth and love with good grace 🌞

BlueBelle Sat 02-Aug-25 09:04:18

Where are you to have a concrete like gardens my allotment has had a good soaking lately Eazybee it’s never been concrete like

Ziplok Sat 02-Aug-25 09:12:32

I don’t mind autumn and winter on the whole, but what I really dislike are the dank, dark, cold, dreary days - these really affect my bones as the damp just seems to seep in and make them ache, especially my knees. Unfortunately we seem to get more of those kind of days than the crispy, frosty, sunny ones in our autumn and winter months.

sf101 Sat 02-Aug-25 09:13:39

My favourite seasons are spring and autumn, you can get some lovely warm days but have the coolness at night. Summer below 25C is bearable but over that gets uncomfortable for me. I'm just glad we have seasons how boring to have the same weather all year round, and whatever would we talk about!!

No! We can’t, we hates it precious! 😖
We have no energy, we feel sticky and listless and don’t like flies and wasps.

Mind you I love a good Summer thunderstorm ⚡️

Bukkie Sat 02-Aug-25 09:41:02

We actually get 7 months of BST and only 5 months of the correct time GMT which seems so unfair to me. It should be 6 months of each to suit all. I personally would prefer to stay on GMT all year round. Light and dark nights would just happen naturally.
