Good morning Mick and all who follow from a dry and mild North Wales where I’m about to enjoy the chamberpot ☕️ of reviving Yorkshire Gold before my trot for a 🗞️.

It’s been an oddly quiet week for us but we have a busy month ahead starting with my friends coming over for a curry this evening (My butler has been given the evening off and he will meet his brother in Conwy for a few 🍻)

I’ve not been to the Isle of Man Hollysteers and it’s always been near the top of our list to do next…I wish they still sailed from Llandudno but that stopped over 40 years ago🤨

I shall pop along later and read of all your delights and hopefully not too many disappointments x

Good morning from Bristol. The night temperatures are curiously low atm, but the daytime ones are perfect for me.
Yesterday was quiet. I went into centra Bristol for some shopping and have started to collect bits for the DGDs “advent calendar ”. Last year, I made them a lucky dip one, with things from a mini Mars bar to a scratch card and all things in between. They loved it!
Once home, I made the bed, brought in my clean bedding, and settled to more sewing.
I have been watching a BBC4 programmed about a Japanese ceramic repairer of antique. It is very interesting.
Serving coffee at the church coffee and chat today. I have made some (overcooked) flapjacks.
Talking coffee, three of us in the complex had decided that, as the (then) manager was “too busy” to have a twice monthly meeting, we’d take over and have a monthly one over the winter. Some people depend on these to talk to other humans occasionally. Things have changed as the manager has retired and goodness knows when we’ll have another, whether resident or not. All very unsettling.
I hope you all have a good day, and are not too affected by the forthcoming storm Floris.

Good morning, it’s pale blue skies and a cool, dry start here in south Glos.
I spent the morning doing housework, the washing all dried nicely on the line and is put away except for a few bits needing ironing, always a very satisfying feel.
I spent a while composing a complaint and photographing my new mattress which, at only 5 months old, has developed an unpleasant dip in the middle. It’s been turned weekly and the dip is very noticeable in the photos. I don’t expect to pay a lot of money for this to happen, I’ve never had a mattress do this before so am not happy, as you can imagine. I spent more than I’d ever spent before on it.
I have contacted the store, I hope I hear from them soon.
Today an early dog walk, tiddler had a bath yesterday so won’t stay clean for long, then more arty stuff I think.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Good morning from Kent where it is slightly cooler today but still dry. Rain forecast for later.
Thank you to Grammaretto for the encouragement about starting a new hobby. I've always thought that I couldn't sew but there is no practical reason why that should be true so I'm going to practice doing the basics, cutting fabric and some hand sewing to start with.
Karmalady thank you for explaining why you pack away your sewing machine from now until Spring. I wonder if I will experience the same; time will tell. Knitting gives me an autumnal, slower vibe but I try to knit a little every day as it slows my mind more than anything else.
Got the leeks in yesterday but it was only after I'd planted them all that I remembered they should not be pressed in too hard. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see how well they grow.
Peaceful day to all flowers

Good Morning! I was saddened to read of the death of Allan Ahlberg yesterday. Those books were a huge part of my daughters' childhood, & my grand-babies in Devon also love them. " I'll 'ave me that" is well-used, lol.
Jaxjacky: MS is short for Mississippi - I now live in a town on the gulf coast there, about 40 mins drive outside of New Orleans.
Hope everybody has a little bit of fun since it's Saturday!

Grandmabatty Sat 02-Aug-25 06:36:46

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6° and sunny. Rosesandlilac that's a nuisance about your mattress. I hope it is replaced for you.
Yesterday the boys were very good. Dgs1 painted another picture. He's enjoying abstract work just now and swirling different colours together. Dgs2 didn't want to paint but played with play dough and cut it into shapes. After a snack they watched tv til lunchtime. After lunch, we walked to the nearby wood and grassy area.. More football and collecting cones and we saw squirrels which made the boys happy. Back home and we made chocolate chip cookies. I didn't do much when they went home as my feet are still so sore. I had quite a disturbed night with them.
Today I'm meeting a friend for breakfast. We have a lot of catching up to do as we haven't seen each other for over a month. I'll get the bedding stripped and some usual Saturday housework done. The bag of feathers, leaves and cones is going in the bin! This afternoon Tesco delivery and that's my day. Have a nice day all

Good morning from a grey W Kent where I was woken at 5.30 by a pinging WhatsApp Today is my birthday and with the family all being away our time zones are different. DH and DB will be taking me out to a NT house and lunch later this morning.
Very best wishes to all

Grandmabatty Sat 02-Aug-25 06:55:55

Luluaugust a very happy birthday to you. Have a lovely day

Good morning from Chester where the sun is shining through the skylight.

Had a lovely day meeting my friend yesterday. Her daughter also joined us which was a nice surprise. She is expecting a baby in three weeks.

Today we are meeting up with two other school friends so I’m looking forward to that.

Happy birthday luluaugust, I hope you enjoy your day.🥳

peli it must be nighttime where you are. Do you go to bed late?

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

GrandmaC47 Sat 02-Aug-25 07:00:01

Awake early today! Dry and dull here in Co Durham.
Happy Birthday, Luluaugust 🎂💐

Bore da from a bright Carmarthenshire.
Perhaps Kidwelly market this morning if it remains dry.
Otherwise a bit more editing to do.
Hope everyone has a good day

Good morning from cloudy s somerset

Yogaknit, enjoy your crafting journey, it is always good to be open to learning new things and the satisfaction of making something yourself is tremendous. Cushions etc are a good way to start, so easy to re-vamp a room with nice cushions. and it won`t be long until you start making simple clothes for yourself. The best youtube teacher is Karina from lifting pins and needles, her earlier videos are the most comprehensive

Yesterday was busy, not manic at all, just busy. Allotment on my bike first and yes that batch of phacelia seeds did not take so I hoed and have sprinkled a different brand on 2 beds, meantime the squashes are rambling far and wide so I have directed them onto two empty beds. They are still producing females and the squash are growing very quickly from tiny to big enough to eat, it only takes a couple of weeks. Are they telling us something about the forthcoming winter? I have never seen such production.

My old farmer friend, in Wales, always said that nature evens itself out. He was a gruff large ex boxer and one word of praise from him when we had horses, well it made me and my girls so proud. He died when chasing a poacher. at 84. Never forgotten. His son has now sold the farm and there are new houses in that tiny village

Next I made the beef broth, it took hours to cool enough to go into the fridge, plenty of portions will be available to freeze. Easy but what a palaver and resulting messy kitchen. Destined for ready meals, and soups over winter just have to make some freezer space today

Still having energy, I dismantled a long planter that held 3 x 40 cm sq self watering planters with roses, about 50cm high. Had that for 6 years but watering is a real chore now and the garden is mature so I don`t need that as a screen. I managed to scatter all the soil over my existing garden in small doses, I could not face transporting the soil to the allotment with all that lifting and twisting, now that my hip is just about better

Today, a tip run, the car is loaded and later I will be portioning and freezing the broth, after taking off the fat layer.

I might finish plying my 3 ply yarn, maybe start the skeining, ready to wash tomorrow. All the skeins will eventually hang to drip dry, draped over hangers on my washing whirly lines. DS was absolutely over the moon when I asked if he would like me to make him a jumper from that gorgeous yarn, I want to make a plain jumper to show the hand made spun properties

My next fluff to be spun is made from merino/alpaca, very squashy. For that I have to spin and ply differently , will need to do some test spinning first

I will also get my outdoor recliner out and read when the shade comes

Have a good day

Happy Birthday luluaugust have a lovely day 🥂🎂

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s dry and a bit grey at the moment, hope it will be sunny later. We had some very welcome rain yesterday afternoon. Sitting in my DD1’s lounge listening to the rain on the conservatory roof reminded me of wet days in the caravan!
DD2 and the granddaughters came round in the rain. They had enjoyed a week in North Norfolk with good weather. DD1’s dog was ecstatic to see them, she’s been quite unsettled since her family went away.

I’ll walk round to the shop for my paper, then DD2 will take the dog for a walk. May do a little housework later.

rosesandlilac I hope you can get a replacement for your mattress soon.

I hope all those with anxieties can find some comfort today

Have the best day possible everyone.

Sar53 Sat 02-Aug-25 07:05:09

Good morning from the Essex coast, I arrived home at lunchtime yesterday, after a lovely few days with two of my granddaughters.
DD1 and family are on Koh Sumui at the moment and fly to Singapore on Monday before flying home next Friday. They have sent some great pictures, lots of lovely memories to look back on.
I need to do some food shopping today as the fridge is looking very bare.
Have a great weekend everyone and best wishes to all xx

Good morning from a bright and sunny Part of La Sarthe. A beautiful morning to enjoy the window being wide open even if the air is on the fresh side!

Happy birthday, luluaugust!

I hope your feet become more comfortable, Grandmabatty; a nuisance when you’re so active.

It must be the middle of the night where you are, peli. I married and lived in MI many years ago as my first husband studied at GMI in Flint and worked for GM in Pontiac.

How annoying about your mattress, RosesandLilac! Name and shame if you get no satisfaction!

Another one who's never visited the Isle of Man, Pantglas2. You’ve made me curious!

A lovely idea for an Advent Calendar, grandMattie! May I copy?

Yesterday we took the cats to the cattery so we can pack and clean more easily ready for our departure tomorrow. It’s a lovely facility in the outbuildings of a beautiful château and they settled well there last time.

Wishing everyone a good day, whatever you’re doing. 🦩💐🇫🇷🥰🦩

Marydoll Sat 02-Aug-25 07:24:32

Good morning all from a sunny Glasgow, where it is only 7°C.

Happy birthday, Lulu.🎂🎁🎉

Yesterday was rather unproductive, I didn't do half of what I acd planned to do, having to come back early from the shopping, I was struggling. My garden plans didn't happen either.
Another night of coughing has left me tired this morning, so I can predict little will get done today either, apart from the usual church admin.

A special hug for Gingster, I noticed the thread you started. 💐

I wish you all the best day possible.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

kittylester Sat 02-Aug-25 07:28:17

Good morning all from a dullish North Leicestershire.

We had a lovely but tiring day with Wolfie. He never stops talking and asking questions.

Today, our choir is singing at a nearby summer fair.

Have the best day possible everyone.

madeleine45 Sat 02-Aug-25 07:30:21

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still blue skied morning, so we are promised both sunshine and heavy showers ,so from the looks of the sky now have no idea which will be coming. Plan to go out to the market on the yellow peril so it will be sandals but taking a mac too!

I am very weary and still full of aches and pains, and not having much luck with the eye drops. Trying to carefully not touch the eye with the dropper, hold my head back, and with one hand make sort of pocket and then squeeze the dropper, it rarely goes in first time, and I get irritated by the performance, but no doubt practise will make perfect! I have only 3 more days of antibiotic for the cellulitis and then I shall soon tell if it has worked. Hope so, as dont want to have to have another course of antibiotics.

So yesterday, I left here, ignoring the jobs still not done, and set off with all bits and pieces and the local paper and went up my beloved swaledale. For me the perfect way to spend Yorkshire Day. A few flags out and one lovely garden decorated with flags etc, but not a great deal of effort about. It was lovely to drive up there and sit up in my place watching the world, the birds the dales and the passing people. But my goodness, the countryside looks more like autumn in september. So many fields all cleared of crops , very much earlier than normal. So the fields dont look normal for this time of year. I expect the blackberries will be early, so much watch out for them starting. A friend up there always picks sloes to make sloe gin, which by tradition we always tried about christmas time. Anyway it was lovely to be back and sit and think of my darling husband.

Then I decided that I would go to Thirsk on the way back and get fuelled up as plan today to go and visit a garden in the Yellow Book NGS, today. So went over to wensleydale and called in at Bedale for a chinese, as it was getting late, and sat and had a " picnic " in a quiet layby looking out over the dale. Girl Guide trained always have cutlery and plates in car. So very good enjoyable food, disposed of rubbbish in a bin of course, and then drove on to get my fuel and finally home at about 10.45pm. Long day but good. Too weary to take much from the car so that is the first thing this am, to check over car, wash things and get them all put back for the next time they are needed.

Really need to have a quieter day today, so plan to just go to the market for a few bits, then meet my friend for coffee. As we have both been busy havent seen her for some time so lots to catch up on. Then later looking forward to going to a garden open today for NGS, which miracle of miracle is not very far from here. So it will be lovely to wander round and look at a lovely garden. That is all I am doing outside home, so then later will come home, make a meal, and then start on a few jobs and attack some more ironing still waiting for my attention. So, as usual , my treat today is to buy the Yorkshire Post, and later if it is fine I shall take a chair outside and sit in the sun and read. If the promised rain arrives suddenly will make a dash indoors, and settle down with coffee , and radio three, so am looking forward to a quiet but pleasant day. (Of course, knowing the way life goes something may occur to alter everything. Who knows?)

Mick it is good to hear you are improving health wise.
Pantglas, I think you will enjoy the IOM. We have been there many times, sailing as it was our first port of call on our holidays. Being in a boat of course meant we had no car, but we used to get tickets for the bus and trains. The wretched Revd Audry wrote Thomas the tank books there. So it is fun to rid behind a steam train, go through Fairy glen on the bus , where you must say Good Morning fairies if you want a good day. Peel has a lovely beach, There is the Laxey wheel etc. In Douglas they had horse trams - dont know if theyare still their. You sort of go back in history and it is very nice.
Peli, Yes sad about Allan Ahlberg. Used his books for both my own son and in class. Had his lovely pop up alphabet book too.

Well it looks as though we are to get a bit of sunshine so time to shift my carcase, uncover the yellow peril and get off to the market. Hope everyone has a good day and pleasant company. May it rain heavily on our gardens after we have gone to bed!!

Usedtobeblonde Sat 02-Aug-25 07:31:45

Good morning all from Stockport.
I have been awake for some time after just a few hours sleep.
My mind is in overdrive as it is 67 years today since my H and I were married.
We managed 60 years together before he died.
My AC no longer remind me but my GD who lives with me and I always mark the day .
Her BF and us are having a nice meal tonight in remembrance.

Yesterday I went on my scooter to the local park just to get out of the house, it was very busy and although I said yesterday it didn’t seem Autumnal I noticed the football pitches were all marked out for the start of the season this weekend.
Actually it was quite chilly sitting on my scooter so I didn’t stay out very long.
Have the best day you can everyone.

Morning from a blue sky in S Hants, a slight chill in the air though.
Happy Birthday luluaugust 🎂🥂 have a lovely day.
Thanks peli an area I haven’t been to, the nearest was Atlanta where I spent a lot of time working.
Yesterday I spent ages sorting out an awkward kitchen cupboard, discovering a jar of home made pickled onions, two packets of cheese crackers and some mini pots of jam. Stretch class in the morning pinged my muscles, Tesco delivered and we visited a very busy local for a drink and catch up.
Newspaper today, a walk and cottage pie for dinner.

Good morning everyone from a sunny south coast. We’ve had a storm warning for Monday and rain tomorrow so I must get on with some gardening jobs today.

Yesterday’s lunch with the U3a World Cuisine group was really good. I managed to co-ordinate the bus and ferry trips with good timing. Gunwharf Quays was very busy with a lovely atmosphere - street musicians and tourists. I managed to find the restaurant after asking for directions. It all felt like Race Across the World only at snail’s pace in my case. 😂

Hope everyone has the best possible day today.
