Good morning Mick and others from Polmont where it's currently 10° and pouring rain.
Yesterday I spent the afternoon emptying five rooms of ornaments and paintings. I still have the hooks to take down. My dining room is full of stuff now which I will go through, clean and decide what I'm keeping. Later this week I'll wash down the skirting boards, walls and doors ready for the painter next week. Dd and Ds are coming on Saturday afternoon to take down the curtains for me. I made a very nice chilli for dinner and will have more tonight and freeze some. I wind proofed the back garden as much as I could too, putting away items which might move.
Today is early childcare day. I had planned a picnic in the park but the weather is against us. Because of the forecast storm, we'll hunker down and stay in the house. I bought a new craft/painting set on Saturday while at the garden centre so that'll keep them amused for a while.i think I'll get them to help me empty the big bookcase and bring the books to the dining room . Dd will pick them up later.
Stay safe everyone in the path of the storm

Good morning from a grey Bristol. I hope the GMmers in western Scotland especially are not too disrupted by storm Floris.
It was good to hear from you, FGT. I hope life is less anxious for you. Susan, I trust you are now on the mend. Has anyone seen taichinan recently ?
I had another quiet day yesterday, other than the usual Sunday church service. I had coffee afterwards, chatting to one of my immediate neighbours. I sensed he wanted to talk, so late4in the afternoon, I invited him over for a cuppa.
I sewed a lot of the afternoon, my go to atm, in the absence of social intercourse.
Chiropodist coming over this morning, then free time. As my neighbour is away and no Tesco by car this morning, I’ll probably go to the nearby Waitrose, but tomorrow to avoid getting wet.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning Mick and all from a drizzly North Wales coast where the wind hasn’t yet picked up…but it’s coming 😱. I’ve just put cardboard bag out for the binmen who are here at 7am usually- didn’t risk it last night in case Floris arrived early!

Sorry to read that you’re incapacitated Susan 💐and hope you’re home and on the mend soonest with not too many calls on your time - you’re one of the busiest folks on this thread and will need to look after yourself x

I’m envious of your lad trotting off to Barbados, Gingster 🤢. I have a photo of Mr PG (+ 🍹) on the beach last December with glorious blue sky contrasting with brilliant white sand - stunning place with friendly vibes😎

A provisions shop first thing for me then battening down of the hatches with a good 📕 and ☕️ later - stay safe everyone x

Good morning from s somerset, hoping for a bit of rain later, dull and cloudy until 4ish

I lovely cycle ride for me yesterday, I was out early and there were only a couple of cars on the lanes. Back home by ten and out and in with the washing later due to wet drizzle.

I see that the adverts have gone out for apple tree shakers, probably next month and that is definitely a month earlier than normal. I do see that most fields are now bare of any crops and look ready to be ploughed for winter arables. Farmers have had a good `easy` harvest this year and there will be plenty of food stored for animals

I did do a little bit more on `downsizing` the garden, my young rowan, I took it out, it had rotten roots. I am not missing the height-givers, that role has been taken over naturally by the young trees and roses and the two heavy iron obeslisks are now on the allotment, to eventually be put in place for bean and cucumber supports

I see that the butternut squash plants have stopped spreading and the 7 squashes are starting to mature. They are atop one vegtrug and do not need the second trug for support.

I spent yesterday afternoon, very carefully emptying soil from 2nd trug to store in full big 40 litre trugs in the garage. I want to be moving dry soil in the future, not yet as my back needs to heal some more. 3x 26 litre trugs ordered online. I could get them locally but they are the same trugs at £13 cheaper for three. That size trug, 26litre, is far easier to manage than the 40litre big trugs. I am going to be very careful wrt my skeleton, I had a real shock when I had the awful hip and leg pain entirely due to twisting and lifting the big trugs which were only half full

My day today is based around a haircut this morning and then craft group later

Have a good day

RosesandLilac Mon 04-Aug-25 06:01:44

Good morning from south Glos where I have a very vocal pigeon calling outside my window! It’s grey skies here with rain forecast later this morning.
Tiddler wasn’t well yesterday, she perked up a bit by the evening, I honestly don’t know what caused it. I was very worried earlier on.
I really must do some gardening today, I have been doing odd bits but now I really need to tackle the plants that have gone over and get DH to cut back the buddlia which is overhanging one border.
I have a few plants that need putting in the borders so I really must get going!
Nothing else happening here!
Have a lovely day 🌹

Bore Da from a damp Carmarthenshire. Have a good day and take care especially those in the path of storm Floris

Good morning all. Horrible stormy weather here in Glasgow this morning.

Heavy rain and high winds, it will be an at home day doing whatever turns up.

Have the best day possible all and stay safe those who are caught up in the storm.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a dreary South Yorkshire. I slept very well last night for a change. It was quite cool when I went to bed so I put a light throw over the duvet. It brightened up sufficiently yesterday for me to cut the front lawn and trim the rockery, which is always a work out as it requires a lot of stretching and being on my knees. A neighbour passed and said he hadn’t realised the tree overhanging my garden wall was a plum. I said that’s because it’s never had plums on it since you’ve lived here, and later, I took some round for them. They were very pleased.
I have a nurse appointment at the surgery this afternoon to discuss my blood results and she will make another case for statins I expect. DD doesn’t know what’s holding me back. Neither do I now.
Have the best day you can, folks,

kittylester Mon 04-Aug-25 06:33:52

Good morning all from a, currently, calm North Leicestershire.

DS1 and his partner are on holiday in Oban and had a sightseeing boat trip booked for today. It has been rebooked for later in the week.

Today, I have a massage booked and ironing to do.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Morning Mick, morning All from a grey, dry corner of Somerset.

Off along the motorways today to meet a friend and generally potter.

The family arrived earlier than expected yesterday, too windy on the sea front for it to be enjoyable. Very pleased to see them. At our grandsons request one potato bin was investigated, he has his own at home and likes to compare results. A decent enough haul which we shared with our immediate neighbour. I cause great merriment in the family as while I rarely eat potatoes I always plant three bins.

Listen to the nurse greyd! Hope Susan is feeling better this morning

Have the best day you can everyone.

Good Morning fr MS - we're looking forward to a cooler 32c temp today. I'm hoping to plant zinnia seeds early on, & then go to the DIY centre to buy wood for 2 projects I have in mind. Vegetable lasagna made by my very helpful DH, means no cooking for me this evg - yay!!
Hope everyones' day goes nicely!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 04-Aug-25 06:56:57

Good morning all, I am off thirst thing to Butlins (Bognor Regis, I have gone from Barbados to Bognor in a matter of weeks 😹, I hope your FS enjoys Barbados Gingster I loved it)

The GS’s are so excited, as it is one of if not their most favourite holiday destinations. DH is looking forward to a peaceful week home alone.

I will not be here every morning, will try and check in a spare moment.

Thinking of all our morning friends with ills or troubles (((hugs))) 🙋‍♀️

Bellasnana Mon 04-Aug-25 07:00:15

Good morning from Chester where it looks cloudy but dry at present.

Had a lovely day with my goddaughter, her husband and little girl yesterday. We went to the ice cream factory where there is a huge play area for the little one and the most delicious ice cream!

The boys would have loved all the different things to play on.

Today is my last day in England so I shall have to organise my suitcase and pray it isn’t too heavy.

The storm hasn’t arrived yet, take care those who are in its path.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Redcar Mon 04-Aug-25 07:05:02

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s bright out, with little wind at the moment. Stronger winds are forecast for us but thankfully not the storm force winds that will hit Scotland today. Stay safe everyone.
I went back to my house yesterday morning, picked a few cherry tomatoes and some French beans and watered them all.
The dog and I had a lovely roast dinner at DD2’s in the evening.
The dog walker will take the dog out later. I’ll go to Tesco this morning and get back before it starts raining.

Sorry to hear that you’re poorly susan and hope that you’ll soon be much better.

Thinking of the fgts and all others going through difficult times.

Have the best day possible, stay safe in the storm.

ginny Mon 04-Aug-25 07:12:44

Good. Morning from N.Bucks where another dull and rainy day is forcast.
Preparation for friends visiting tomorrow is the main job today. Hopefully I’ll be able to spend some time on the model of a reading nook that I am making. It is very fiddly.
Wishing all a good day and thoughts with all who are poorly or troubled.

baubles Mon 04-Aug-25 07:17:37

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. We have rain but it’s just a bit breezy just now.

DSiL is supposed to be dropping their youngest to us this morning as he is driving the eldest to a netball camp. No idea if that’s going ahead so I’ll just wait to hear.

DH battened down the hatches yesterday, hanging baskets are down and furniture in the garden has been secured as far as possible.

Best wishes to all, especially the worried or ill.

luluaugust Mon 04-Aug-25 07:19:18

Good morning from a bright W Kent. DB is off home this morning and cleaner is arriving. Just as well as DGS3 and girlfriend arrive later. I am not really used to doing this kind of entertaining now, thinking about all the food makes my head swim. I have only met the girlfriend once so hope she will be okay here with us.
Thinking of those with a storm to get through

Jaxjacky Mon 04-Aug-25 07:24:46

Morning from a dull S Hants, rain due later today, gMattie I think I saw taichinan on another thread a couple of days ago.
I’m pleased your health is stable Mick.
Butlins at Bognor makes me shudder GG13 although I took my two a good many years ago, I’m sure it’s fine now.
Voluntary phone today, ring my dentist, get out for a walk and quiz tonight.
I hope Susan is improving and others poorly are not in too much discomfort, FGT 👋

Good morning everyone from a cloudy and very overcast Northampton, rain showers promised later.

Yoga first thing, and I need to get the bus this morning as my friend is on holiday. Coffee afterwards at the little cafe round the corner. Then home, clean the bathrooms, and do some general pottering. Reading later this afternoon. Had delicious gammon joint for dinner yesterday, so it will be ham, egg and chips tonight. Nothing like home cooked ham.

Hope Susan is feeling better today.
Wishing all a pleasant day.

EkwaNimitee Mon 04-Aug-25 07:26:58

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where the skies are dark and it's pouring with rain. The barometer, which was showing high pressure at bedtime, is now falling. I await the day with trepidation, the back and front of the houses are wind tunnels and I worry about my fence.

Yesterday turned out dry and sunny by lunchtime. I went out and planted my little conifer firmly in, nothing left to plant now. My potatoes are coming through and the garden is lively with quite a few butterflies enjoying the buddleias, erysimum(?) and lavenders. It's been a good year for insect life in my garden, especially pleasing to see so many bees.

I'm going to keep very busy today with cleaning, concentrate on the indoors and try to ignore the outdoors!

I'll be thinking of you all further north and hoping damage to people and property will not be as bad as feared. Good luck!

brook2704 Mon 04-Aug-25 07:37:11

Good morning everyone from Inverness, its wet and windy already, the worst is forecast for this afternoon here
I’ve got a volunteering session this morning so need to go out, I should be back by lunchtime so will stay in then for the rest of the day. We’ve moved all the garden pots and planters to a sheltered corner of the garden, we’ve a lot of trees at the end of the garden but luckily they’re not too close to the house
Hope you’re feeling a bit better Susan
Enjoy your last day here Bellas
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

latedecember1963 Mon 04-Aug-25 07:44:33

Good morning everyone from damp Lancashire.
Sending Susan get well wishes and also safe travels to Bellasnana.
Off to my Slimming World group in a little while, then not much else planned for today.
DH has come down with a cold so is feeling glum. He must be feeling rough because he's put his out of office notice up on his work email, very much a rarity.
Wishing everyone a safe day. 🌻

Allsorts Mon 04-Aug-25 07:46:27

Good morning from the Midlands, lovely start to the day as was expecting rain. See what the day brings.
Enjoy whatever you doing.

Beechnut Mon 04-Aug-25 07:52:45

Good morning everyone. Grey sky here on Severnside where it is trying to rain.

A good three days of decluttering has been done. My daughter helped on Friday and took lots of stuff away to dispose of. I have done the garage and made a good start on the shed. I’ve tip run booked for later in the week.

Best wishes to all 🌺
