Good morning from a grey and cloudy Black Country, where rain is forecast this morning.

Popped over to my friend with some Rhubarb from our garden, and stayed a couple of hours chatting.

May give the Monday morning walk a miss, as heavy rain has been forecast, but should clear by lunchtime. Then Line Dancing this afternoon.

Wishing you all the best day possible. Hoping Monk is ok, as not seen her posting for quite a while.

Good morning from a bright Essex coast. I hope all of you in the north get through the day without any trouble.
I will going to the club this morning to pick up the takings from the bar for the last couple of weekends . I need to get the accounts up to date before going away on Thursday.
DD1 and family are flying to Singapore today, the last few days of their holiday before flying home on Friday.
I've had some lovely pictures of their time in Thailand, I hope the girls appreciate how lucky they are.
Take care everyone and have a good day, best wishes to all xx

Good morning all and it’s calm and a bit cloudy here in Essex. We’ll have some rain later but will miss Storm Floris.
I hope no damage for those in the path 🙏. Stay safe!

Yesterday an unexpected trip out with ds1 to the seaside . Perfect weather as we sat on the promenade with a Rossi icecream, people watching. He then took us on a little trip down memory lane along the estuary where the large, beautiful houses overlook the ‘sea’., a lovely area which has some bad press. Your domain Sar.

He then took us back to his house for a coffee and a look round his lovely garden, he’s very proud of it , and his new ice bath, 🥶. DIL arrived home and made us sandwiches, always nicer when someone else makes them. Simple pleasures !

Today I’ll pop to see Dd as she’s not too well. I hope she doesn’t go downhill!
This afternoon I’ll pick up my friend for the U3A meeting. Rarely a good speaker, but we live in hope 😴😴 .

Susan I hope you’re better and able to go home.
Love to all suffering in one way or another.🌼

Good morning from Cambridgeshire. We are forecast windy conditions and rain but no weather warnings for East Anglia at mo. Hope those in the areas where the storm will hit stay safe.

Off to visit my Mil with DH this morning as it is her 94th birthday tmrw. She lives independently alone but certainly a hub of activity there. I am anticipating the normal chaos and a mad dog in the mix.

This afternoon weather permitting I will either walk or cycle out to blow the cobwebs away or creep into a quiet corner with my book.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk which should escape the high winds of other areas. I hope those affected escape without any damage or distress.

I’m hoping that the garage will sort out the problem with the air con today. They did a service and MOT on Friday but didn’t have time on Friday. Since they had squeezed me in,I said not to worry if they couldn’t complete the job all at once.

Hope today is the best it can be for all.

Good morning everyone from a blustery south coast. More wind and rain on the way.
Nothing much happening today which pleases me as I feel tired this morning. Just housework and some cooking later on.
Hope everyone has the best possible day.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a rainy and chilly looking morning in North Yorkshire. I do hope this gets onto the thread so fingers crossed!! Yesterday I was awake a t 4,30am and in quite a lot of pain, so decided to get up and get out to see a garden.

As I have been away the car was not in summer mode, so took some time to reorganise it with cutlery, bottle openers , plates etc etc. When I am in this much pain, it takes me a long time to do the simplest thing, but got it all sorted, and wanted to get off to be there when the garden opened. It was near Driffield and so quite a way but a lovely drive through my old haunts as I grew up in East Yorkshire. So came in for coffee and read all your posts. Wrote quite a bit as is my wont, and posted in and got ready to go and no idea what happened, but the post disappeared into the ether and did not appear. I was rather miffed, but couldnt stay and check it out so gave it up as a bad job and set off.

Today I feel physically not much good and paying for the day out . However mentally , am in a much better place, and that is what counts. I had a lovely drive across the countryside and through the wolds. The garden was small but spectacular. Full of wonderful flowers and loads of ferns, which is his speciality. I am a Galanthophile - thats snowdrops to you - and had over 100 different types of snowdrops and things like christmas cards with snowdrops on etc etc. so recognised a fellow gardening enthusiasts, who had all these very interesting ferns, both outdoor and inside ones, books with ferns in , but what was rather lovely was that besides his greenhouse he had another seating area behind glass and the wall behind the seats was papered with a really great light paper with ferns on it. I commented on this and his wife said he saw it in a wallpaper book and they had to trace it and send away for it but were happy with the result.

I was grateful for the various seats around the garden, as definitely needed to stop at them all! Anyway met some interesting gardeners and we talked gardens and plants of course. Had a couple of showers but not much and the day warmed up and so I went on to Bridlington, That and Hornsea were our usual coast places we visited. I was struggling to walk about by then so was happy to find a parking space by the harbour and my binoculars let me look out to sea and round the harbour etc.

One thing about living alone, you can suit yourself how and when you go back. Of course it was quite busy being a sunny warm sunday, so I decided to let them all go home before I set off. So treated myself to scampi, peas and chips and a glass of dry cider. All very good, and then set off up via Filey and then crossing over to drive back through Pickering and Thirsk and home. Hardly any traffic at all, easy driving and the countryside looked lovely in the evening light.

I went up Swaledale on Yorkshire day, and in all the years I have lived here I have never seen the harvest gathered in so early. Usually you get one or two fields in drier areas, but the whole harvest is gathered in, not a single crop still in the fields and with the lack of rain, everything looks autumnal and the river is really down and you can see stones on either side that would normally be covered with water. So hopefully todays rain will help to fill some water butts and water gardens and cheer up our flowers.

So today, I am still sat here in my dressing gown, as I need some time to loosen up creaking muscles etc before venturing into the shower. Anyway it is raining harder now and windy but not too bad yet, so definitely a day to stay at home. It has been so cheering to have the day out and not have to give up and come home so worth the effort.

I have food in and the only thing I want to do outside is to empty bits from the car from yesterday. Was too weary to empty it last night. However it can wait. So once I am up and dressed etc, then I shall have to have a sorting day her. There is plenty of ironing that is awaiting my attention, but not interested in that at the moment. I have my two calendars to sort out and bits of paper. So on one calendar I put all the dreary but necessary things such as hospital appointments and insurance date for the car etc. I usually put the actual dates in one colour but then about a week before I put a star in that date and possible a reminder tv license due etc . I am quite a lawabiding citizen and have never knowingly not paid my dues, but when you are alone , there is no one else reminding you what needs doing and I would hate to find myself in the local paper for non payment of car tax or whatever! On the other (much cheerier!) calendar I put things like friends birthdays, concerts, special gardens I want to visit, planned family get together s etc. So with being away not so long ago I have various bits of papers with information that need to be put on the calendar. So hopefully by the end of the day things will lookk a bit tidier here, with all the paper thrown away and an up to date calendar to remind me whats comes next. \I have the treat of roast duck for dinner today. It was in the reduced bin in Tesco,s. I really love duck, but not only is it expensive, there is not a lot on it, so you dont get a lot of meals from it. So I shall look forward to a pleasant dinner.

I might start going through the wardrobes and drawers too. At this time of year, you now get warm days but the early mornngs and evenings can be quite cold, so time to unearth some sweaters and jackets and put away some of the lightest clothes. Dont see me wearing a sundress now! Well if wishes were horses beggars would ride!! The idea that I shall be sat in a tidy and organised flat this evening is a wish but wont hold my breath! I can be easily diverted by the radio, or a phonecall from a friend,

Did put on the other day that I would be happy to meet when someone suggested a meet up, so hope that didnt get lost.

Hope you all have a good day and stay out of the awful weather. Must get some coffee and will come back on to read more missives later.

take care and hope to hear good news tomorrow not that lots of damage done by the storm.

Good morning all from a wet and stormy Glasgow, where it is 13°C.

As usual, my plans went to pot yesterday.
As well as buying compost, I picked up various bits and pieces for the garden, which I needed DH to help with. including stakes , Mizuna for my sticks fruit trees.
Also, I picked up some reduced perennials to fill a few gaps.

Just as I was going out to plant them, DD and SIL appeared, so no garden apart from DD lecturing me on the state of my tomato plants, which she kindly trimmed and in the process, broke my garden scissors.

They left, I grabbed some lunch and I went out to the garden to deal with my newly purchased plants and the ones I had purchased on holiday, only to realise, I could not lift the bag of compost.
Reluctant to ask Mr Grumpy, I was formulating a plan, when DS2 appeared beside me. I made him work hard for the homemade strawberry tart and coconut slice he later had.

Babydoll, had fallen asleep in the car and was in the most awful mood, when she awakened. Her mood only improved, when she spotted the strawberry tarts. She dissected it, with the precision of a surgeon.
The terrible twos are the perfect description of her behaviour just now. It is exhausting.
Her other grandpa is under going unexpected heart surgery today in the National Heart hospital. A few weeks ago, he came back from a London, feeling unwell, he had no idea, that he had had a silent heart attack. He had just done a five mile walk, prior to attending the surgery, having no idea that he had heart problems.
This is his second op within a week.

DIL was going to make a get well card for him, so I let BabyD raid my stash. We were in hysterics, when she chose toppers, which said, Forever, Always in my thoughts, Never to be forgotten, not very encouraging for grandpa!

I'm off to the doctor's this morning, two of my meds are currently unavailable, including a CD,, therefore I need to do battle with the dragons, to obtain alternatives.
DH is concerned about me going out, because I'm not too good and it is quite stormy, but I need to remain independant.

I hope Susan is on the mend and happy holidays, to those on the move.

GreyD, I have been on statins for many years, despite low chlorestoral as belt and braces after two heart attacks. I have never experienced any side effects, despite having multiple allergies to other medication.

I wish you all, a pleasant day.

Good morning from a wet northwest coast. No wild winds though.
A decluttering day and a grocery delivery this morning. FaceTime with my sister in the south yesterday. She’s off to Riga and Vilnius today, never been myself.
I’ll finish my Sally Rooney novel, which I can take or leave and rehearse my songs for the music club.
Thoughts to all🌺

Good morning everyone from rainy Lancashire.

It’s absolutely pouring down so we will have to give our morning walk a miss. I have some admin I need to get on with and I want to make more bracelets for the charity shop.

Happy Monday everyone 🌹

A quick morning all from a grey West Oxfordshire.

It is granddaughter’s last day with us today. She will help with shopping this morning. Then she wants to buy a particular book so we will see if the book shop has it. Local museum next followed by lunch. My cleaner is coming today and granddaughter is anxious she might move her things around! Apart from kite flying yesterday, and a visit to a Farmers Market, we went to a garage sale. I bought a real wooden wardrobe/jewellery box for £1 which she loves. She will take it home

Have a good day and I’m thinking of those of you with difficulties

harrigran Mon 04-Aug-25 09:21:27

Good morning from a wet and windy NE.
DS and GD2 visited yesterday and I was treated to mandolin music before dinner and piano playing afterwards.
Today I am going out for lunch with my friend, we will have a catch up on news ( our DHs were first cousins ) friend is off on holiday later in the week.
Have a good day.

A late good morning from a blustery Durham. Since Thursday night, I’ve had the British Airways Long Haul Lurgy and spent the entire time in bed, asleep most of the time, I’m determined to get up, showered and dressed today, even though it’s going to take a considerable effort!

Best wishes to all. X

Susan56 Mon 04-Aug-25 11:27:16

Good morning from blustery Shropshire.

Thank you so much for your kind posts and messages, they gave me such a boost.

I have been moved from surgical to medical and have a nice view over the rooftops towards the hills. The care is first rate and things are slowly moving in the right direction.

Thinking of you all🦩🌻

GrannySomerset Mon 04-Aug-25 11:41:06

A succession of minor dramas have made me late to the party but all is well and the gardener is here imposing order on a hedge which certainly needs it. We look as if we will miss Florian though it’s breezy; given how dry the garden is we could do with some serious rain and a number of precious plants look unhappy. It’s really been quite a trying summer.

Thinking of Susan and all those with health worries.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 04-Aug-25 11:41:10

Good morning from a wet and very blustery Stockport.
Better news from you Susan, Ihope you are soon on your way home.
Definitely a day in for me, I have Sainsbury’s delivering in the next hour so when that is put away my book will come out and I shall read for the afternoon.

It is now getting very windy and things are moving around, I cannot do anything about it though.

Blossoming Mon 04-Aug-25 12:11:29

Good new Susan, hope you’re on your way home soon x

Grammaretto Mon 04-Aug-25 12:27:45

Good day, late today, everyone from a stormy but sunny Scottish Borders.
I've been to my exercise class and enjoyed a good chat over coffee.
Now contemplating the afternoon.

My 2 Helpers have cleaned my cooker to perfection and are still working on the dreaded housework.
They cooked together last night, a delicious meal and we agreed it was very nice to cook and eat together and share stories.

I hope anyone travelling today is safe and Susan can get home soon.

Wishing you all some joy today.

Grandmadinosaur Mon 04-Aug-25 16:33:45

Glad to hear you are on the mend Susan make the most of your stay there to rest up and hopefully be allowed home soon.
