Maybe it inspired you, made you laugh, or just hit at the right moment.

There are 3 or 4 above which I have never heard and do not understand.

Life is a series of distractions till you die. From The Sopranos.

You get what you've always got

'When shows break up what but oneself is sure'.
By Walt Whitman.
These words have always resonated with me.

Also the Aldrich quotation.
Guess that's a matter of opinion but it does not speak to me.
Also disagree with the general comments about poetry.

An open mind is not a skull fracture.

Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent People Ignore. — Albert Einstein

Welbeck I agree, those quotes are so enigmatic that I gave up trying to work them out😄

Oreo Mon 04-Aug-25 15:50:59

Hope for the best, expect the worst!
Useful as it prepares you in advance for bad luck.😄

"Life is what happens when you're busy making plans" attributed to John Lennon I think.

Oreo Mon 04-Aug-25 16:02:49

And…if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans🤭

Clawdy

"This too shall pass."

The other half of that is >This too shall pass. Like a freakin' kidney stone but it shall pass.

craftybrat Mon 04-Aug-25 16:18:22

I like

'Bloom where you are planted"
and someone said something about
There are many things I have not yet learned to do, but that does not mean "I can't learn it" I may never learn it and I may not be as good at what I do learn as anyone else but still I learn.

JamesandJon33 Mon 04-Aug-25 16:36:58

This to shall pass
What goes around ,comes around.

You are what you believe yourself to be

One from Julian of Norwich:- All will be well, all will be well, all manner of things will be well”.

Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone.
It stood me in good stead not long ago when my DS2 and DH died within months of each other. I hid, but when I felt able to, I put on a big smile as well as my big girl pants…

Look thy last on all things lovely, every hour.
Walter de la Mare.

One from my Irish gran -

Love many, trust few, but always paddle your own canoe.

Signifying exactly what?
Other than that you can remember two lines of a Matthew Arnold poem.

StripeyGran Mon 04-Aug-25 17:30:44

I like it. It often comes to my mind in times of worry. It makes me think about growing up and watching a river near my home and despite the struggles the Oxus keeps going.

Thanks for asking though.

Eleanor Roosevelt: 'No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.'

StripeyGran Mon 04-Aug-25 20:49:04

Well Rosie certainly had a good stab at it.
