Good morning from a clear Bristol.
I’m off in about 20 minutes to see the balloons “hatching” for the annual Bristol Ballon Festival. If I remember, last year was terrible, with rain and very strong winds.
Then, I’m off to church to serve coffee; I’ve made a lemon and poppyseed cake.
I have finished my dress and vacuumed all the black fluff!
Must rush off. Have a good day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Bore Da from a slightly cloudy SW Wales. Supposedly going to be a warm weekend.
Lots to do in the garden today and I am thinking of moving around the living room furniture. Just for a change.
I bought sone Shasta daisies yesterday, so have to find a space for them. Some time ago we bought some daisies from Sarah Raven. They were awful. Tall, thin and floppy, fell all over the place, so we dug them out. But still some pop up in unexpected places.
Have a pleasant Saturday, Mick and everyone else.

Good morning, Michael, Mattie, and all GNs from an already sunny South Yorkshire. I have no plans for the weekend except to batch cook some meals to go into my new freezer, and make some more plum jam when DD brings me some of her stash of jars over today. They are going to look at a new car at a showroom near here, so will call in afterwards. DS rang for a long chat last night. He will not be down here until later in the month. It seems a long time since I saw him last.
Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning everyone from a damp and rainy morning here on the east coast of Fife. Don’t know what the gardener will do when he pops up this morning, perhaps he’ll just remove the large weeds and give a general tidy up of the garden

Thinking of those less fortunate than me today.
I’ve a warm cosy bed and lots to eat, I can pay my bills, I’ve got everything I need I’m so very lucky

Good morning from Malta where it is currently 24°C rising to 34°C (with a ‘feels like’ 37°C) later.

I did some shopping yesterday as my fridge was empty and also bought four new plants which I will put in pots today.
I shall also clean and sort out the spare room as DD1 will be coming for a visit from the US later this month with her little dog Bertie.

I will be doing a lot of dog-sitting as DD1 has a five day trip to Greece booked as well as three days in Budapest with DD3 so I will be in charge of the boys as well as the dog!

There is tennis to watch later from Cincinnati so I shall look forward to that.

Well, I had better get on. Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Here’s what my garden should look like, at the moment it’s overrun with weeds

madeleine45 Sat 09-Aug-25 06:55:10

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a slightly breezy greyish morning but now with a hint of sunshine here in North Yorkshire.. Another absolute rubbish night, with my back and knees giving me hell. So bad I did take painkillers but wonder if someone forgot to put the painkilling ingredients in, didnt seem to make much difference!! Well at least it meant that I was up early and glad for the night to be over.

I am slowly getting stuff together to escape to Bridlington, or rather Bempton to see a lovely garden that I have visited before. Some people say to me why do you go back when you have seen it before. They are obviously not gardeners! Even if I went to the same garden at the same time of the year there would be differences. The changeable weather means that it can by further on or back from last time, and I enjoy seeing how it has progressed from the previous year. I am very good at recognising faces, but not names. In the same way I have a sort of photographic memory when it comes to gardens. sometimes I surprise owners and ask , Did you move the acer from here, or has your trillium finished flowering. The layout of the garden is sort of imprinted in my memory and an owner may say oh yes we moved the acer, but often they will say Oh i forgot that trillium was there, Havent seen it this year etc, and can be surprised that I have remembered it from a year or two ago.

So once I can actually get in the car and go, I will be in less pain and am anticipating a lovely run over the wolds, a great visit to the garden and then if my back allows it may go down to Whitby as it is regatta weekend. So fingers crossed for a decent day. At the worst it will be just the garden.

Have you noticed how it is always nothing happeniing on a weekend you have free and then another weekend you wish you could split yourself in two or three to go to several things at once? The little village I go to play whist at has a Beanbook sale once a year. and as a mad book hoarder it is of course something I usually go to, add my contribution to their sales and of course buy more books from them so my own library never gets any smaller. I love it for the chase for that new book you find and that old book by a favourite author you discover. Well the lady who runs it sent me an email as I know she values me as a big customer but I also pass on reminders to the womens group and anyone else I know. But sadly today I wont be able to go. Ah me it is all or nothing isnt it? And there is another country show on today as well.

Yesterday Jessy did not come as she wasnt well, so had to struggle to get the bed made etc etc., but there were various things dropped on the kitchen floor, that I had bargained on her picking up for me, and they will have to stay there still as cant bend down to them. Very annoying, and frustrating. One of my favourite fruit knives is underfoot and my grabber wont pick it up etc. I need to sort my picnic out and gather all my coffee paraphynalia together for today, but first will have to empty the boot!!

Went to Strikes , a local garden centre, and must have just arrived at the right time, as of course I go round the "sick bay" where there are plants at a much reduced price that need care and attention, but if you are a reasonable gardener, you can suss out those plants that can be brought back to life and those that arent worth the effort. So did well and came back with two different loniceras - honeysuckles, some dianthus , a couple of dahlias etc. So they are all languashing in the boot. I will get them all out and just put them together and water them well and let them revive a bit while I am out today. Of course as my back is so rotten today, I wish I had done this last night , but never mind a grand bargain buy is worth a bit of pain.

So once I am ready and off, need to just check the fuel will be enough for todays journey, put radio three on, make sure that I have got the Yorkshire Post on the way and I shall be ready to face the day, and whatever it brings. i shall be leaving the mess here with not a care in the world (until I come back and step on the knife again!)

Hope you have a pleasant trip to Bicester and meet lots of friends and enjoy your chinese later Wish I was nearer you grandMattie would love to see all the balloons. Hope they get the best weather for a lovely sky full of balloons. Hope they show it on the tv later on Bora Da JamesandJon, but in a north welsh accent!! Giope your garden plans work out. If the weather is warm I would leave the furniture moving for another day and sit with a drink contemplating your garden.

whatever you all do today may it be a good day , of a job done to your own satisfaction or a chance to meet family or friends. Enjoy your day

Good morning from a cloudy hillside in south Glos, off for the first dog walk shortly.
I spent yesterday morning doing housework and washing, five loads dried nicely outside, including all the throws on the furniture and the dogs’ beds.
I want to do some drawing today, I will probably spend most of the day in the Shed, my haven of peace. Tiddler will follow me down there, bless her!
One of my neighbours has visitors, every August there’s a weekend of very noisy music, shouting and screaming, often going on until 4 in the morning 😵‍💫 so I will retreat indoors when it starts and pray that they don’t repeat it this weekend. I sound really grumpy about it but they seem incapable of talking at a normal volume and one woman in particular has the most awful cackling laugh that’s ear-splitting.
Grumpy moi 🫣
Apple and blackberry crumble for pudding today! With vanilla ice cream. Perfect.
Have a lovely day x🌹

Good morning from MS, where the temps have slightly cooled now - the gardenias & lilies certainly appreciate it, & are thriving, both have a lovely scent.
I hope everyone has a satisfactory day.

cornergran Sat 09-Aug-25 07:04:58

Morning Mick, morning All. A disappointingly cloudy start to our corner of Somerset, a gusty, strong wind too.

Goodness knows where yesterday went, nothing much accomplished that’s for sure. Had hoped for an early-ish wander on the sea front this morning, experience tells me unless we want to be sand blasted that’s not a good idea. I’m unreasonably disappointed. Thinking caps will be on once Mr C stirs, we’re both in need of a stretch outside, maybe a park instead. Goodness I sound grumpy, I’ll give myself a shake and all will be well.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and damp. It doesn't look promising. GrandMattie enjoy the balloons. Bellasnana it sounds like you are going to be busy!
Yesterday I bought the paint for the five rooms which are being decorated. The painter will bring the white emulsion and the gloss. Then I came home and added more stuff to the car boot for me charity shop. Dd nipped in briefly with dgs2 who had had a wee 'accident" in the car. I'm afraid my plans of cleaning the skirtings etc didn't happen as I was distracted by other things. I slept very poorly last night with pain in my feet constantly., so I'm a half shut knife this morning.
Today I'm going to Tesco soon. Then I'm meeting a friend for breakfast. Not my usual Saturday friend but another lovely person. We are going to a restaurant which has only just reopened after significant storm damage from last year. After that, DD or Dsil is coming round to take down curtains and lampshades for me. Ds was supposed to be coming but he's going on a short last minute break to Fuerteventura. I'm happy he's getting out more. While DD is here, that will shame me into cleaning. I have a washing to do too. Dinner might be fish and chips. Have a good day all.

Madeleine* enjoy your trip to Bridlington. It sounds fun

Good morning from a sunny Torbay.

Yesterday began with a visit from our local Lib Dem councillor with whom I have corresponded regarding the parking problems around here, particularly the issue of vans and light goods vehicles overnight and at weekends. He is a doctor at our local hospital and his father is our MP, Steve Darling. The latter is partially sighted so has his guide dog with him in the Houses of Parliament. Both are well regarded for their willingness to act on matters affecting the Bay.

After that we shopped in B & Q and Dunelm, where we enjoyed coffee and cheese scones. In the evening we dined at our favourite pub on the Downs where we were made most welcome after being away for a month. I was pleased to accomplish the walk there and back without a stick! My knee is still benefiting from the nerve block from three months ago.

A busy day for grandMattie and madaleine45! I hope theirs and the plans of others all come to fruition.

Happy weekend! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Good morning from a sunny W Kent now the fridge and freezer are defrosted I can go and buy a few bits this morning to fill them up again. I think it is going to be warm this afternoon so I will probably read in the garden. No cooking as I have a curry in the freezer.
We are on cat caring duty this weekend as DD2 is away at an in law nieces birthday.
Best wishes

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

MrB and I went for our usual walk down to the Dock gates and I got on with some jewellery making after lunch. Today will be much the same with added trainspotting. Our nearby railway museum will be running steam trains today, so we will be able to watch.

Enjoy the balloon festival *GrandMattie, it sounds like quite the spectacle.

Thinking of our poorly grans and those with troubles.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing 🌹

Good morning all,
A sunny start to the day here and I think it’s going to remain so.
No particular plans today other than a few jobs in the garden and some washing to do.

Good morning Mick and everyone from a bright sunny morning in Cheshire. The forecast is for high temperatures this weekend.

I slept very badly and didn't really settle till around 4.00 a,m. Did my crochet and listened to music till I nodded off. Surprisingly wide awake this morning though. A friend has asked me for a painting for her newly decorated lounge. I sent her photos of two possible subjects I have on my lounge wall. She asked if it was greedy to want two. That has given me the push I needed to get on and do something useful and also to please someone else. So I will start one today.

A food order will supply sustenance later. Take care everyone and enjoy your day. Kind thoughts for those with worries of any kind. flowers

Good morning from s somerset, dry, sunny and warm

I started knitting a jumper yesterday, a free pattern called flax from Tin Can Kknits, very easy and my gauge was too big but no matter, I am just doing a smaller size because the look and feel of the swatch was perfect.

There is a sunday atmosphere today, calm and peaceful and the church bells will ring soon

Cycling to the allotment later, followed by gardening, knitting, reading and I want to tidy my previously tidied knitting knit- knacks, I could not `find` things yesterday. I might even go the whole hog and make a list to show where I keep the small bits

I watched a long film yesterday on youtube called the dollmaker with Jane Fonda. It was enjoyable and thoughtful.

Have a good day

Good morning from a brightening, cool Cornwall. On my way home from Lego dismantling yesterday I stopped off at my son's house to deliver something. I have a key and am welcome to go there any time. I didn't know my son had decided to work from home for a change and he crept stealthily down the stairs with fists poised as he heard the 'intruder' enter. He jumped out at me, I yelled, jumped feet and then we laughed till we ached. I was fortunate not to be floored by my own son. 😀

I keep discovering Lego I didn't know existed; this time it was a gold tap. Extremely exciting photo attached. 😂

Today I know I ought to resist the temptation to travel because I need to defrost my freezer but maybe I'll leave it till next week and go to St Ives instead...

Good morning all from a sunny North Leicestershire.

We had a lovely day with the girls yesterday. They enjoyed our town's small museum and loved the newly installed Hope Bell in the adjoining park.

Today, DD2, the girl's mum, is arriving and DS2 is calling in for a catchup.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning from mid Essex. We have broken cloud with the sun coming through, I think we have a warm sunny day forecast.
DD1 and family returned from their holiday yesterday morning, so I am now home. The washing machine is on and the washing will be put out to dry soon. My garden is looking very dry and dusty, so I’ll have to get the hose out on some of it. My neighbours are away and I’ll check on their house and garden too.
I’ll visit my friend with dementia this afternoon but nothing planned otherwise. DGD3 has her birthday party today, so I won’t see either of my daughters today.
madeleine have a lovely day out today!

cornergran I hope you have a good day, wherever you go! Disappointing that it’s too windy for a seaside walk, not pleasant being sand blasted!

grandmattie enjoy the balloon festival, such a lovely sight (or so it appears on television!). I hope the weather is good for it this year.

Have the best day possible everyone, enjoy Saturday if you can!

GrannyGravy13 Sat 09-Aug-25 07:36:20

Good morning from a warm S E Essex.

I am back after an exhausting but fun time away with DD and her boys. I have been down helter skelter’s , on fairground rides, zoomed down water slides, along with darts, bowling, escape rooms, neo games I am exhausted.

The journey there took two hours and fifteen minutes, on our return it was three hours forty five minutes, I loathe the M25, unfortunately it’s a necessary evil here in the S E.

I got my dates muddled up and we are off to a BBQ birthday party this afternoon (youngest son’s best friend is 40) so the washing will wait until tomorrow 🤷‍♀️🙋‍♀️

brook2704 Sat 09-Aug-25 07:36:57

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a lovely sunny start to the day
We all enjoyed a really good day yesterday going Nessie hunting, we drove down to Drumnadrochit, stopped for coffee and a look around and then we met up with DD2 and the other DGC at Urquhart Castle. The children all enjoyed a good run around and it even stayed dry for a picnic lunch down by the loch. I bought M&S curries on the way home to feed everyone and we all had a lively family evening until late. The house is still quiet just now so no idea what today’s plans are yet
Sorry to hear your feet are still sore grandmabatty hope they get better soon
Hope you get a good walk out somewhere today corner and everyone else out and about - enjoy
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning from Holland where there is blue sky and sun.
Yesterday we went exploring the local area and did a lot of people watching.
We had dinner in the Yacht club restaurant, very tasty.
Today DGD1 is 17, at long last she can start driving lessons, she's very keen to keep up with her friends.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, best wishes to all xx
