Mattress toppers

I've always liked a fairly firm mattress but the mattress I bought about 7 months ago has recently started to feel uncomfortable. For the past week I've woken up feeling like I've slept on rocks. It's too late for me to return this very expensive mattress which I spent ages deciding on. Gone are the days mattress choices were just either soft, firm or hard - nowadays it's inbuilt toppers, heat controlling, memory foam, wool, gel etc. I can't afford to buy another so thinking about buying a topper but, again, there's too much choice. Has anyone been successful in buying a topper to help make a firm mattress a bit more comfortable. I'm at the point of now dreading going to bed.

I dont think her topper is a deep one. Magenta can you remember where you bought it?

I bought mine from ebay. I am afraid I can't remember the name of the trader. I ordered a 4" thick one with a cover.

I wonder whst the recommendation for a suitable mattress would be if you have a wooden slatted bed base. Which couldnt be sprung edge.

I bought a new mattress from John Lewis, back when JL were a by-word for excellent service. The sales man politely enquired if I share a bed and then told me , he recommended couples should always lie on the mattress together before buying. But since DH was not present, "just tell me his size". He then fetched a colleague of matching height and weight and that's how I found myself in bed with a gentleman stranger in full public view.
He was right; great way to really test the support and comfort of a mattress.

I have a Devon Wool mattress topper.
It's been very successful on my previous bed, which was too hard and on my recently purchased mattress, which is just right. I still use the topper as it adds that bit extra comfort for my arthritic bones. smile
