How is everyone coping with the heat. I was out for my walk at 8am and not too bad but quickly heated up.
I will stay inside where it's a bit cooler for the rest of today.

Enjoy it while it lasts. It’s always a long winter!!!

It’s a bit grey and chilly here in SWWales !!!

NannyJan53 Wed 13-Aug-25 15:56:26

Cloudy and dull here in Swanage today. Still warm though and it did try to rain briefly!

It's 31 here in Nottingham, and too hot for me. I did aqua aerobics this morning (it was so nice to be in cool water), but not much else since.

I’m in Brittany, in a very small seaside village. It is warm but definitely not a heatwave. And the house never has sun so is very cool.
Draw the curtains, keep the sunlight out.
Rinse your hands in cold water and or sit with your feet in a bowl of cold water
Wear loose fitting clothes in natural fibres, not synthetics
Just have a sheet over you at night and then open the windows for cooler air flow!

And the fitness freaks who think it’s clever to jog in mid day heat? Why?
Dog walkers should be made to walk barefooted on hot pavements if they walk their dogs on hot pavements in the mid day heat!
As said “mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day sun!
Stay indoors or in the shade between 10 & 2!

My dog went for her walk earlier, but then when it got hotter she didn’t know what to do with herself. I put her outside in the shade, she wanted to come in, she came in and laid on her cooling mat, got up and wandered around, then I found her in the bedroom window. I wet a towel and put it on her and she got up and shook it off! I got quite worried about her for a while because she was panting and breathing hard. Today she is better and I am so relieved.

Love the feel of the sun on my face, but the current heatwave is just too much. 'Couldn't sleep last night, even with a fan. Tried to do a little deadheading in the garden, but it's like standing under a grill. Dog is listless, I'm longing for the golden days of September.

I live in mid-Northumberland. It's 23° C here today. It was hotter on Tuesday and yesterday. I'd be like Lizzies' dog if it was much hotter. I'm northern 😎

Loving it! It's humidity I cannot stand...

I just love it and can’t wait to live somewhere where it’s hot from about Easter to the end of October

Lupatria Thu 14-Aug-25 14:15:29

i hate the very hot weather as i can't cope with temperatures over about 22°c - it makes me ill. it's currently 25°c here in dorset so i'll be staying indoors which i've managed to keep cool.

CountessFosco Thu 14-Aug-25 14:18:11

As a Raynaud's sufferer, and having lived in SA and Oz where the temperature in our garden was sometimes 46C, we laugh when some complain about+23 degrees. Believe me, 46 is HOT. The long, miserable days in an extended winter are purgatory for RD sufferers. So, loving this "warm" spell.

I wish it would come to us in Scotland. We’ve had a few nice days but definitely no heatwave.

Himself struggles now because he is on chemotherapy. We used to love long hot sunny days. 💔

🫂🥰💐
Hard for you both, isn’t it?

Allira Thu 14-Aug-25 14:43:55

It's cooler today and we've had two or three showers - just when I thought it might be a good idea to do a bit of light gardening!

Just 23C now, breezy, blue sky and clouds.

Ziplok Thu 14-Aug-25 14:46:37

I agree Terribul about the over the top commercial run up to the festive season that gets earlier and earlier - I was in The Range on Tuesday, and yes, they were starting to unpack stuff for Xmas 😲

FranP Thu 14-Aug-25 14:59:43

Love it!

Little cloudy here today means that I can get out in the warm and attack the overgrown garden.

SueDonim Thu 14-Aug-25 15:11:06

I’m in Scotland, it was 29 here yesterday, which is outside my comfort zone. It’s about 26 today but I hope it will cool down a little more as now have a thunder storm and a little rain.

Dreadwitch Thu 14-Aug-25 15:28:20

I'm currently sat on my bathroom floor on a pile of cushions because it's the only room in my flat that's below 33 degrees, although it's still hot in here.

It's cooler outside right now but I'm taking medication that means I can't be outside I am the sun. I tried covering up but I felt liek I was cooking.

I hate it, I hate everything about the heat.

Knittypamela Thu 14-Aug-25 15:29:08

We had a carpenter here doing some work. The sweat was dripping off the end of his nose. I felt bad for him. It's bad enough when you just have to sit still.

Having lived abroad for quite a while, I automatically go into heat mode. So I tend to be awake very early anyway, so if I need to go to supermarket go about 6am, , if I have to walk out in the heat, always look for the shady side of road to walk along. Wear cotton, with spare tops etc in my bag. Put a flannel in very cold water and wring out so not dripping. Put in a plastic bag and then put a small towel round that bag. In the car in the heat put this round your neck, lovely and cooling. If I am walking about, have flannel in plastic bag in my shopping bag so can use it to clean up and cool down. All windows open to a safe level and all curtains shut until evening. What cooking I do is usually either very early in the morning or late in the evening. Try to be sure I have made enough whatever to provide 2 meals from the one cook. Have plenty of salad stuff in. Put bottles of water in the fridge to be cool to drink.

You also find out exactly how much you like or dislike something. When you are prepared to still go out in the heat, you obviously love whatever it is. If you cant be bothered to go to something, perhaps you could leave that and still have some time to yourself. But most of all so long as I am clean and my clothes are clean the rest can go hang. I make the most of the lovely weather and enjoy it. Sad that I cannot go swimming yet but once I can go there it will be great.
