How is everyone coping with the heat. I was out for my walk at 8am and not too bad but quickly heated up.
I will stay inside where it's a bit cooler for the rest of today.

Surely dogs cool themselves down by panting,
If they are hot, they lay in the shade.
At least that’s what my dog used to do.

It's pointless putting makeup on in this humidity because it just seems to slide off. But when I look in the mirror, without it, I look like a creepy jellyfish!

29 degrees?
Here in SW France at the moment we simply call that "Wednesday ".
(sorry couldn't resist that).
We have had nearly 40degrees although cooler today.
Shutters drawn and cooling fan on.
There is so much clothes washing to do; clothes changed twice a day and washing oneself two or three times a day.
38 to 39 this weekend then hopefully the intense part of the heatwave will be over.

I haven't noticed ....

We don’t have a heatwave in mid Wales. It’s been cloudy with a bit of drizzle until lunchtime today. It’s still cloudy, with the odd sunny spell now, low twenties.

I’ve just given myself heat exhaustion from going vigorous digging in the garden! I find the heat really debilitating (I’m reasonably fit) and am looking forward to cooler days (and nights.)

Sat out until 10.30 last night. I’ve had my fan on for last four weeks tbh.
In beautiful Ilkley today 😊

We don’t have fans. With the porch/ front door open and then the byfolds at the back your in a wind tunnel.
Literally your hair blows around.
Only trouble is, neighbourhood cats and sometimes a fox wander in.
It won’t be long before a seagull comes in. So far he stands just outside screaming his head off. 😂

Re hot dogs it is advised to slowly poor cool water over them rather than drape wet towels on them- it can trap heat in their fur, then put wet towels down for them to lie on.

Granmarderby10 Thu 14-Aug-25 19:25:31

petra a fox wonders in! Amazing.

Oh! I did that the other day. I wasn't even vigorously digging, just weeding but the sun was on my back.

Drinking water with a tiny pinch of salt and a drop of honey is better than just plain water.

It is never too hot for me, just love it, can sit in it all day long and have a wonderful day doing all my work outside when I possibly can.

Cabbie21 Thu 14-Aug-25 20:20:03

Yesterday was just too hot at 31degrees and humid. Awful.
Today I am away from home in an air conditioned hotel. Had to turn it off as I was chilly! I haven’t brought a cardigan just a light wrap and a mac.

Granmarderby10 Thu 14-Aug-25 20:34:20

I had a slow and leisurely wander around Tesco yesterday, lingering by the freezers. But the heat smacked me straight in the face as I stepped back out🥵

SueDonim Thu 14-Aug-25 21:42:55

We had a thunder storm and rain this afternoon and now it’s pleasantly cool. I hope that means a decent night’s sleep, too.

This heat is 🥵🥵🥵🥵. I live in the north west it's been 30° in my living room from 8am until 9pm with the curtains shut and tower fan on full blast. It was 34° in my kitchen from 10. It's still 29° in there now .

At least having my dehumidifier running every night makes it comfortable to sleep.

Catterygirl Fri 15-Aug-25 00:15:09

I’m really strange. I just put on a summer vest and long sleeved pyjamas. Closed the bedroom windows. I can’t sleep unless it’s really hot. Brought up in tropical countries and parents had air conditioning with baby sister. They couldn’t afford it for me. I’m grateful.

The biggest negative that the successive heatwaves have generated is men in those creased and ultra-baggy Cargo shorts.......with beige socks.

Woken up to another red hot day 🥵 and have to take my DH to Queens hospital in Romford where it will reach 29 degrees.
He is very unwell and not coping with this weather. I absolutely hate it now. I have had cluster migraines and cannot sleep at night and neither can DH who has two tower fans but keeps turning them off because he thinks they are medical equipment and he is back in hospital.
Am praying for cooler temps 🙏🏾🙏🏾

GrannyGravy13 Fri 15-Aug-25 09:32:57

I am sorry for all those not coping with our summer.

I cannot apologise for loving the heat, the sunshine on my skin, along with the long days, light nights, eating and spending most of my time outside.

My brain needs blue skies, when we have the endless grey skies of winter my mood reflects them, I become even more introvert, grumpy and generally lethargic.

sodapop Fri 15-Aug-25 09:33:25

Strange that all the anti Christmas people start complaining about it in August.

Temperature forecast to be over 40 here today, think I'll move to Wales.

cc Fri 15-Aug-25 10:41:52

I don't enjoy the heat at all, though we try to have meals outside in the shade if we can. I've bought two portable air conditioners and they make a huge difference to me though.

Aveline Fri 15-Aug-25 11:15:44

Just back from Sainsbury's. Deliciously cool there. I wonder if they allow sleepovers?

Caleo Fri 15-Aug-25 11:48:31

I did not let my son take my dog for a walk of the hottest day, and only very short walk on grass on other hot days . I was surprised and a little disappointed that my son tried to persuade me dogs need to be walked daily, heat not withstanding , including my elderly dog who has a coat like a Carpathian Shepherd's

Caleo Fri 15-Aug-25 11:50:57

My anger today is directed at builders, architects, and financiers of tower blocks who willfully did not make the residences climate -proof.
