Good morning from Cornwall, where the heat has woken me in my flat, after a week in my son's cooler house. It's nice to be back home among my sewing and other things. I've ordered a king-sized throw from Argos so will take a short bus ride to collect that this morning and then have a coffee in Wetherspoons before I hunker down. The throw is for a single bed, so I'll cut it and make a pillow sham and cushion covers. Just fancy a change from denim.

Mick, be wise about this weather and your heart. It may be best to stay at home though I know you'll miss your bus trip.

Good morning Michael and all GNs. Look after yourself in this heat, Mick. Drink lots and rest. An almost conpletely sleepless night for me last night. I think part of it was that I ate very little yesterday and I woke up in the night hungry! Had some milk and biscuits but once I’m awake, that’s it. I plan to go to the gym this morning, and then have to do a food shop, but other than that, nothing much planned. I figure forty winks will figure somewhere in the equation.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning all from the east coast of Fife, thankfully it’s been much cooler throughout the night, unfortunately my dog has been sick I heard her vomiting several times I hope she’s okay the poor thing.

It’ll be a lazy day today, just cereal with a little banana for breakfast, toast and fresh orange juice.

Have a good day my friends keep rehydrated by drinking lots of water

Good morning from a grey, warm Bristol.
I found yesterday’s heat very energy sapping, especially after a bad night. I was sopping, my glasses kept on slipping and my face was beetroot. I can’t cope with these temperatures.
The clearout in the church hall kitchen and cupboard was brilliant. We found all sorts of “treasures”, including loads of bunting that the vicar had lost. All in neat boxes and labelled now.
The cupboards needed tidying upas very little was thrown away.
The same was true of the church servery - although we found a lot of biscuits at the back of the cupboard, mountains of teabags - most people drink coffee - and a great number of opened herbal tea bags. Again, only about three people use them. Do we need 8 packets?
Today, church coffee then Philip’s girlfriend is coming over for lunch; she’s holidayed in south Wales. It’s very sweet of her; she has been very loyal.
Another hot, dry day ahead. Take care odvyourselves.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from a cloudy spot in south Glos, I too am struggling with the heat, I find it draining.
I enjoyed art group yesterday, a very pleasant couple of hours with lovely conversation and coffee plus a bit of art work 😊
Today will be another quiet day, dog walk then chores and more drawing. I might do some needlework today, i intended to do some yesterday but didn’t get around to it.
Best wishes to everyone 🌹

Good morning from s somerset, wall to wall sunshine and very hot today

The body dehydrates very quickly in this consistent hot weather, blood volume decreases and blood concentration increases. Blood vessels by the skin dilate to release heat and the heart rate increases, this puts stress on the cardiovascular system. None of us oldies are exempt, hence being an oldie, I stay in all day, during the intense heat.

My thermoregulation system works well and I sweat a lot, particularly after a hot drink. This cools my circulation but leaves it concentrated, hence I drink a lot more water and don`t tempt fate by being out

I got up in the night to switch my pedestal dyson fan on, gentle breeze over my body for the rest of the night. I slept well once I was coping with the heat

I ordered some lovely seeknit flexi knitting needles yesterday, smooth bamboo single tips, with a thin fibre to the ball end. I am going to eventually replace all my straight needles with these, I like having the knitting weight in my lap and not on my arms

Also I started my new spinning with a different wheel and double drive instead of scotch tension, slow and mindful spinning and I see fibre glow on the bobbin already. It will pouffe a lot when it is washed. I feel like making another flax tin can knit, to show the hand spun element. Could well be long sleeves and certainly thinner

Cds and Dvds, I went at it yesterday and got rid of more than half, they were stored in caselogic files on a shelf in my lounge. I have owned a lot of those since Cds first came out but I have no interest now, even my reggae music has gone but I did keep some folk, Bob Dylan and Pentangles All my country and western are out, those were the days when the children were small, they held good memories but life has changed and my interest in Cand W has gone. I kept all my new age, relaxation, meditation, some classical etc

Today, has to be slow mo and indoors, I have started filling my jug with filtered water and it is cooling in the fridge

It won`t be a boring day, I swap and change from task to task as the moment takes me. I have another cupboard to sort, the big low one under my tv and perhaps my gansey wool will arrive so I can get on with gauge swatches

Have a good day and look after yourselves

Good morning from Glasgow where thankfully, the temperature has dropped to more pleasant warm, dry, sunny days.

Rest and stay hydrated is good advice Mick. I know how much you enjoy your bus trips but it’s best not to risk you health. Take care.

Cooler nights, I have moved back upstairs and had a full nights sleep, less pain too which helped. An at home day today with nothing pressing to interrupt a day all to myself. A trip to Waitrose is due but it can wait another day as I intend to enjoy a peaceful, leisurely day.

Best wishes to all for a peaceful, pleasant day if possible. Thoughts for those coping with worries and struggles.

Grandmabatty Sat 16-Aug-25 06:39:49

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 15°with thick cloud. GrandMattie that's lovely that she keeps in touch with you.
Yesterday dd and I went to the furniture shop where I bought a rug for my living room. I say 'I' bought it- dd had to buy it as I've lost my bank card. I only realised it at the shop. I'm pretty sure I've lost it the previous day at the car wash and I'm very annoyed with myself. I've cancelled it so I'll have to wait for the new one before I can spend any money.
I worked in the school library in the afternoon and saw both primary one classes. Then I visited the rest of the staff after the bell to find out if they wanted me to work with their class next week. All said yes, so I'll have a busy week next week!
Today I'm meeting my usual Saturday pal for breakfast (she's paying) and the Tesco are delivering later(dds paying). In between times, I'll strip the bed and get the sheets washed and fill up my bookcase slowly. I'm culling as I go. Dinner will be quiche and salad. Have a good day all

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a cooler still morning in North Yorkshire but feels as though it is going to warm up shortly.

Had quite a domestic day yesterday, but not very successful. Various people I tried to contact were not available, or not helpful. Struggling with back and legs, decided to go to the garden centre as had seen a fold up chair similar to my own ones but more padded in a sale. Checked up on line on the prices and decided it was worth it. Rang a friend to ask her to join me there for coffee. No reply from her and when I got there the chair had been sold and no more left!! Ah well one of those days but of course did check round the "sick bay" of plants and found two rather good salvias that I can restore to health and also big enough to split in two each, so that was a consolation. Am rushing about slowly as I should say. Rather frustrating as my back is giving me hell this morning and knees not much better, but am getting things together for another gad about day. Planning to go to Rosedale show, up on the moors. A smaller agricultural show with quite a lot of horses, so with my picnic and chair I shall be able to set myself up at the ringside, try to remember my binoculars, which allow me to look more closely at things and animals in the ring without having to walk far. So fingers crossed that the weather stays like this. It would be great if it was dry but not too hot , will look odd with my mac nearby but now a days, no chance of running or moving at all quickly so if there is a downpour I would just get soaked. We have had a big fire up near fylingdales with many fire engines from all over dealing with it. They said yesterday that they were slowly winning, but a lot of smoke around and of course must not go anywhere near there, so can hope for a few showers over that way to help matters. Problem is of course with the moors the fire can smoulder in the peat and then break out again somewhere else.

So that is the plan for the day , ignoring the many jobs waiting to be done. The show wont wait, and they can. !!

Mick , so sorry to hear you had a bad trip. Totally understand your wish to get back to normal, but think you might be better giving yourself a bit longer to be ready for trips out. Do hope it is cooler for you today, and that you can have a couple more restful days, although I know you will miss meeting your friends. Is there anyone who could perhaps come to meet you at home for a change? GranMattie , well done on the tidying up session. There is a satisfaction on seeing a job well done and finished. I do things like that here, resolving never to let it get so bad again, but of course have a short memory and it soon returns to a bit of a mess. It is annoying when people open several different packets of things at once and dont store them properly isnt it? I do hate waste, and would much rather give things away for someone else to use than have to throw stuff out.

Ah well folks lets hope the day is a little cooler and less humid for us all but perhaps a good shower or two at night to cool things down. Hope your day goes to plan and you can all enjoy things that you want to do. Take care everyone and especially you Mick, we are all thinking of y ou and hoping things improve for you

Good morning from an overcast NE.
Yesterday started off very sunny but clouded over during the afternoon so I left the garden and watched some TV.
I have been awake since 4.30 am so it is going to be a long day, all family still on holiday.
Have a good day.

Ashcombe Sat 16-Aug-25 06:58:01

Good morning from an already warm Torbay, where the temperature didn’t go below 18 overnight, leading me to have a poor night with vivid dreams.

I don’t cope well with the heat and would agree with the advice already offered about taking it easy during hot days, Mick.

Yesterday my DS and DGS3 enjoyed a full day out, visiting a different crazy golf course, going kayaking, swimming and snorkelling in the sea before rounding off the day with a ride on the big wheel. Later they joined me for another delicious meal in my favourite pub/restaurant. Today is their final day here and they will go to Paignton Zoo before travelling home to Staffordshire in the early evening. It’s been lovely to have their company.

I hope everyone stays cool and well in these extreme temperatures.🦩 🥵🤞😎🦩

RainbowsAndUnicorns1 Sat 16-Aug-25 07:24:49

Morning from SE London , it’s cooler here with a cooler edge to the wind. I’m off to yoga shortly and then plan a sorting out day ahead.

Gingster Sat 16-Aug-25 07:30:21

Good morning all and it’s deliciously cool here in Essex.

Didn’t have a great night as the eye shield isn’t very comfortable. I’m trying to be careful not to bend much but it’s hard as Dh can’t do much to help.

DS1 will pop in this morning with a few essentials ie dog food.
We might get fish and chips this evening.

Another day in, which I’m not used to but I must be sensible and rest up.

Take care 🌼

Redcar Sat 16-Aug-25 07:32:54

Good morning from a dry but very grey mid Essex. The garden thermometer says it’s 18 degrees. I think today is supposed to be a bit less hot.
I managed quite well in yesterday’s heat and humidity and did quite a lot of tidying in the garden. I paced myself, working for a short while, then resting with a drink of water, then working again.
gingster I hope your eye is more comfortable today.
Take it easy again today michael I know it’s boring not to go out, but better for your health in the heat.
ash good that your DS and DGS have been able to enjoy this lovely weather on the Devon coast.
marydoll I can’t believe how dismissive your doctor is of your health issues and of the consultant’s advice. I hope you have a better day today. babydoll sounds very like my DGD4, a force to be reckoned with as she gets older!

Not much planned for today, some ironing and maybe some more gardening! A day of memories as today marks 6 years since a very dear friend passed away. I always find the last two weeks of August difficult as a number of close family members and friends died (in different years) during those two weeks.

I hope those with health issues find some improvement today. Have the best day possible everyone.

Bellasnana Sat 16-Aug-25 07:33:03

Good morning from Malta where a cooler 34°C is expected with a possibility of showers. Typical when I had just cleaned the windows.

Had a lovely day with the boys yesterday. They were good as gold and I took them home around 4pm so their parents were delighted to have had a lie in!

I was watching the tennis last night when I suddenly came over hot and cold and had to dash to the bathroom to be sick. No idea what caused it as I’d not had anything suspicious for dinner.

I feel fragile today with another awful headache. I’ve got such a long ‘to do’ list and was really hoping to get stuck into it, but I fear I’m going to be stuck to the sofa until I feel better.

Hope you all have a good day despite the heat.☀️

Susan56 Sat 16-Aug-25 07:34:08

Good morning from Shropshire.A cooler start but forecast to be hot again later.

We had a lovely day yesterday withDD2 and family. They left mid afternoon for a sleepover at DD1’s.

Today is our towns balloon festival.I am not up to going so hopefully the wind will be in the right direction and we will see lots of balloons from the garden.DD1 and her friend will park on our drive and walk into town later.

Thinking of all struggling with their own health or that of loved ones.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

luluaugust Sat 16-Aug-25 07:34:09

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. After yesterday I am hoping for a quieter day today. Heard from DD1 that they were staying with DGS4 until 8.30 and would be back at his bedside this morning, hopefully he will be fully awake by then. The appendectomy was straightforward so not sure how long he will be in for. I also hope his mum and dad have had some sleep after 3 nights back and forwards to A&E
Meantime DS is improving with the Covid
For tension and worry a couple of days I don’t want to repeat but thankful for the GD’s good A level outcome
Best wishes

Good morning from a cooler N. Bucks where where we have had a little rain overnight.
Local food shop this morning and a quick trip to local nursery to find something to replace the plants that have been destroyed by insects. Otherwise a bits and pieces day with some preparation for friends coming to lunch tomorrow.
Have just heard from FD3 and family that they have arrived safely in the south of France for their holiday and DD2 is also away for the weekend and staying in a shepherd’s hut.
Hopefully some art work later.
Wishing all a good day.

Jaxjacky Sat 16-Aug-25 07:46:36

Morning Rainbows, Mick and all, slightly cooler this morning, yesterday was very warm again, stretch class a challenge.
Family in and out later in the day,:children, grandchildren, the front door didn’t stop.
Sounds like your family have had a brilliant time Ashcombe the weather helps.
How annoying Grandmabaty you’ll be like royalty not carrying money for a few days!
Grandson up, awaiting his Mum, football training, granddaughter up too, when they’ve gone I’ll go and get my paper.
Enjoy your day all.
Thoughts with those not on top form.

Good morning everyone from a cloudy and warm Inverness
Enjoy the special time with your family Ash
We had a busy day yesterday so looking forward to a quieter weekend. I’ve nothing much planned, just pottering in the garden, the usual washing and a bit of housework to do.
Hope your eye settles down soon Gingster, take care and try to rest
I’m sure they really appreciate your help in the school library grandmabatty
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 16-Aug-25 07:52:13

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I hope the weather will be cooler today. I found the heat yesterday very difficult. I stayed in all day with the fan.

I wish my thumb would improve a little more. I managed all my ironing yesterday but OH had to set up the ironing board for me and later take it down.

We are going out for lunch today. OH has to collect something for his bee hives - some kind of bee medicine - and the collection point is in the same village as our favourite restaurant.

Have a good day everyone and keep hydrated.🍷🥃🥛

Sar53 Sat 16-Aug-25 07:54:45

Good morning from Holland where we have awoken to a very damp day. It's obviously rained overnight but not at all cold.
Yesterday we walked to the big supermarket and bought all our provisions. We had coffee on the way back and spent the rest of the day reading.
Today there is a big market in town but we will only go if the rain stops.
We are booked into the restaurant for dinner this evening.
I hope everyone has a lovely day, best wishes to all xx

peli Sat 16-Aug-25 07:55:48

Good Morning from MS where we have a cool temp of 30c, down 10 degrees from what it has been for most of the Summer. However I've noticed small signs of Autumn coming, so the 30c temps will soon drop into the 20s. Autumn is when I really really miss Devon, which was my home for many years...I hope Saturday is kind to everyone, + maybe even a bit of fun.

Grammaretto Sat 16-Aug-25 07:57:44

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. 15° here but rising to 20° later.

It's my birthday and I am being treated to afternoon tea at a posh seaside hotel but before that I'm joining the foraging families near an ancient woodland.

I saw the physio yesterday about my painful leg who has recommended more frequent gentle exercises but
has referred me for further investigation.

Please be careful in the heat 🥵 🔥 (and consider moving to Scotland for the Summer 🤣😂)

Hope everyone has a happy day.
