Hello! My first attempt and I don’t know where to post. Does anyone take a magnesium supplement to help sleep? If so any information you could share would be appreciated, thank you.

Omg once more I’ve lost my lengthy post, - here goes, I had a great day yesterday in the kingdom of Fife where I met up with 4 cousins here on the east coast, the weather was hot but more comfortable than the day before, The tearoom we met in is one of the best so look out Bettys tea room in York you’ve got competition, here’s the type of cakes I love to eat.
Have a good day my friends take care, be happy and smile it costs you nothing 😉😉

RosesandLilac Tue 19-Aug-25 05:45:46

Good morning Mick and followers, it’s a grey cloudy start here in south Glos, not yet dawn, and much cooler overnight so I slept better thank goodness!
Surely you should be resting Mick? You said you had a minor heart attack a few days ago and now another one?

I busied around yesterday morning, took two returns to the village shop and post office, cleared the ironing, tidied up generally then tiddler and I spent several hours in the Shed. It was blissfully peaceful.

Looking forward to another quiet day today, I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Good morning from yet another dry day from Bristol.
Those Atlantic cyclones bypass us and go further south. No rain, not even those 20% chance of rain 🌧️ forecasts until next week. And then I shan’t be holding my breath.
The sky is just starting to get lighter, equinox soon.
Yesterday was quiet, with a fairly quick Tesco shop, then making the High Dumpsie Dearie jam. It’s delicious. I also started preparing the marrow chutney. The vicar has given me about 7 ginormous courgettes to use. I just need storage space as they need to mature for a minimum of 6 weeks.
Today, finish the chutney, wash and label all the preserves, and get on with the quilt. It’s very garish and busy, but someone will like it!
I’m dining at DD’s tonight as the girls are off to Green Belt for the weekend.
MD, when my elder two were small, we lived in Jersey. They would inevitably squabble, so I got one to shout out “hydrangea” when s/he saw one. The other was tasked with “agapanthus”! 😆

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and misty. I thought it was rain at first. Mick you really should be taking things easy. GrandMattie I've never made chutney. I'd quite like to try it.
Yesterday was a good day. The boys behaved well, both before and after school. Dgs2 went into nursery without crying and got a sticker for helping to tidy up the nursery. I didn't get any stickers but I did tidy up the kitchen and did a little hoovering. In the afternoon, I worked for a couple of hours in the library. I worked with two classes, both lovely with some characters! Once I'd picked up the boys, they raided my fridge and cupboards as they are always starving. Apparently I've promised to make them milk shakes for breakfast today.
Today, once I've dropped off the boys, I'll do a spot of cleaning in my bedroom, preparing for the painter coming back tomorrow.. I'll probably have salad again. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a cloudy and warm Kent. Today's plan is to continue cleaning the windows and blinds. There seems to be more dust in the air this year. I suppose we must be breathing all that in which cannot be very good for one's health.
Best wishes to all sunshine

Good morning from a brightening Torbay where there’s a gentle breeze.

I echo the advice from RosesandLilac about resting, Mick. After my first heart event, I was told to take things quietly for two or three days then gradually work back up to normal activities. Now, if I feel tired (eg after exercise class yesterday), I rest after lunch, occasionally by going back to bed for an hour.

mernice: Welcome to Gransnet! Try clicking on Forums and look under Health. Or put Magnesium in the search box at the top.

I'll be at the theatre this morning for Props. The Good Life is on for a second week as is usual for our summer production and should attract holidaymakers.

Wishing everyone as good a day as possible. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

cornergran Tue 19-Aug-25 06:30:23

Morning Mick, morning All. A dry, cloudy day forecast for our corner of Somerset, maybe some sun late afternoon.

General pottering after the ironing yesterday while Mr C sorted the new solar security lights without falling from the ladder. Wandering off to take a couple of bags to the charity shop Mr C finally admitted his foot can still be very painful. The surgery physio suggested he return if no marked improvement by 8 weeks, the request has been dispatched. It won’t be quick as I know she’s on holiday. Best to get in the queue.

Routine day ahead. Yet more laundry to do, dust to remove and groceries to receive.

Mick please do get in touch with your GP and give yourself time to mend.

A large, gold sticker in its way grandmab. You deserve it smile.

Thunjing of all with personal mountains to climb

Have the best day you can everyone.

Grandmabatty Tue 19-Aug-25 06:34:54

Thank you Cornergran😀

grandMattie Tue 19-Aug-25 06:40:34

Gbatty, chutney is very easy (and forgiving) to make.
The best recipes I found are on BBC Good Food website, and the Waitrose one for piccalilli. I usually trawl the web for the simplest ones…
The most important part of chutney making is the maturing. Never eat them before at least 6 weeks maturing, but the older the better.
Having said that, I don’t like any pickles or chutneys. Too English (DH said I was racist 😂) - having been brought up in the tropics with a French background..

Grandmabatty Tue 19-Aug-25 06:45:01

Mattie 😂 thanks for the advice. I'll have a go once the painting etc is done.

Good morning from cool and dry South Lanarkshire.

Yesterday was fairly productive, I cleaned, dusted, and polished inside the house then took my secateurs outside and tidied and swept up in the sunshine.

My brother and sister in law did come to visit in the afternoon, I was so pleased that they had at last left their own house.

Charity shop today and I may go to my yarn group this evening.

Have the best day possible everyone.

karmalady Tue 19-Aug-25 06:58:12

Good morning from cloudy s somerset

Mick, you did not help yourself. I am disappointed. Every heart attack, no matter how small, destroys heart muscle forever. I did explain how heat can help the blood form clots. Prevention is possible and is not at all difficult but it needs the will to do it, plus self-care. Going to A and E is just for sticking plaster help, damage has been done

A lovely day yesterday, in a nutshell so much talking and laughing with the ladies at craft group, especially my wise, intelligent, caring friend who copes with a smile at over 90. She has a heart of gold

I spent a lot of the day working on a knitted pig, I need to get through my planned UFOs and this is one, very tiny needles and dk wool, very tricky but each AC will have an animal left to them by me. The two bears were finished a while ago and this pig is for a dd who loved pigs since a child.

I see a busy day today, CS with bags and books, organic delivery to put away, some of my new knitting equipment came and I want to continue sorting. I did buy 2 more needle garages and want to put circulars into filed pouches, makes it very much easier for me, tried and tested as I bought the first garage a year ago. All my new needles are bamboo seeknit as they will be easier on my fingers. The garages will be stacked on a living room shelf and everything for knitting is close at hand now, apart from stashed wool which is in moth-proof drums upstairs.

Later today I will start the gansey swatch and set up more kefir cheese to drain

The allotment will get a visit, I made a ferment from whey and grains, already tested at home and will mix that into my new compost pile at the allotment. It hastens the turning into black gold. I may also take some of my own compost worms to help. I expect I will be spending a couple of hours there

Have a good day

Good morning all. North Leicestershire is misty with a little drizzle on the windows.

Not so much going on today until I have a physio appt for my knee.

We have almost finished doing the clearing up from the party and 2 weeks of visitors. But have 3 dgc staying from tomorrow for a couple of days. DH is out early to take DS1 to the hospital for a regular botox jab.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Jaxjacky Tue 19-Aug-25 07:00:04

Morning from a cloudy, cooler S Hants. I like making chutney and jam gMattie but none of the family or friends are particularly fond, so I don’t.
Yesterday the voluntary phone was quiet, it goes in peaks and troughs with little logic. MrJ was seen at the surgery where the medic gave him a good check over and declared a virus, ‘drink more water and regular paracetamol’. I tried not to look smug and resisted ‘I told you’, he’s to go back if not better in a week, we didn’t go to quiz.
Today housework and collect my friend from the airport.
Gold star for Grandmabatty you have infinite patience.
My ear was finally 100% cleared yesterday too, a very patient lady with her microsuction tool.
Safe journey to travellers, hugs for those struggling.

jax, I have started selling it in the church again. A lot of happy people - the church treasurer and the customers!

Good morning from N.Bucks where it is overcast and looks like it will stay that way.
Mick as others have said you really should rest up for a while.
Not sure of plans this morning but a visit to a large warehouse this afternoon . This afternoon Sister in Law and I are booked in for a glass painting session with drinks ( tea for us) and nibbles.
A goyday wished for all with a smile along the way.

Good morning from a grey mid Essex,I think another cloudy day is forecast. I did some shopping yesterday but was very tired and achy afterwards. Defrosted the freezer bit of the fridge freezer in the kitchen. Removed some unidentifiable items from the back of the shelf!
I need to tackle to bigger freezer in the garage, but I know all the bending will upset my back. I’ll go for a walk first then decide what to do afterwards, there’s always some ironing to be done!
baubles good that your brother and sister in law felt able to leave their house to visit you.

Thinking of those with difficulties of any kind and especially those waiting anxiously for test results.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Lancashire. It felt quite chilly here yesterday after all the glorious sunshine last week. More comfortable for our decorators though. Yesterday they did all the prep work.

I like the BBC Goodfood website too, GrandMattie. That and a Delia Smith recipe. I know she's a bit out of fashion now, but her recipes and tips are classics from my early adulthood.

Take it steady, Mick. My mum died very suddenly of a heart attack last July completely out of the blue.
I'm not saying this to scare or upset you, but out of concern. Lots of us on here are concerned about you!

Glad you saw your brother and wife yesterday, Baubles. They must have felt you were a 'safe' person for their 1st trip out during such a traumatic time who would show them understanding.

Have the best day possible everyone. 🌻

Good morning from a grey W Kent
DGS3 will arrive shortly as he is coaching young tennis players this morning. DD2 is coming to help me clear some bits of china out
DGS4 is now improving and has managed to eat proper food. The hospital say he should be discharged this week
Best wishes to all

Good morning from a cloudy Isle of Man, but brightening later. A good smooth crossing yesterday reading and sketching on the boat.
Beautiful sunset in the evening and a long interesting chat with a local watching the sunset.
I’ve decided to have a quiet day here today as my back is troubling me and will do a full day tour tomorrow. It’s so peaceful here, a real balm for the soul.

Do take it easy Mick and thoughts to the FGTs and all.
Pic of the nearby steam train station.

Good morning from a cloudy but warm S E Essex

Mick please visit or ring your GP, and rest for a few days.

Today is the most stressful day of the year, I am going to Lakeside with DD and her boys for school shoes and trainer shopping, along with school shirts, shorts (her boys despise trousers and wear shorts all year round if allowed) and a pair of long trousers each for the coldest day/s.

Hopi g for a nice lunch whilst we are there without the outbreak of sibling wars 🤷‍♀️

I make a large batch of green tomato chutney end of August beginning of September, all the family have a jar in their stocking along with a jar of home pickled onions.

mernice I have been taking triple blend magnesium for the last 14 months, I think it helps my sleep pattern, I still do get the occasional bad night.

I hope you are ok dear pen pal 😘

Enjoy your day dear friends 🙋‍♀️

Good morning from Malta where a sunny day is forecast with a high of 36°C.

I’m another who can’t understand why you don’t listen to advice Mick. You say ‘health ok’, but it clearly isn’t ok if you’ve ended up twice in A&E recently! Please give the bus trips a miss for a day or two and let your body rest.🙏🏻

I had a visit from the boys and DD3 yesterday which was lovely until poor DGS1 broke his heart when his mother took my iPad away from him. She is very anti screens of any kind which I understand, but I didn’t think it was such a big deal if he watched some educational things with me. Clearly I was wrong.

He eventually calmed down after she threatened to take them home, and, thank goodness , peace was restored. I was on the verge of tears as I felt it was my fault poor little DGS1 was in trouble and I can’t bear to see either of them so sad.

I managed to finish cleaning the windows and electric shutters on the bedrooms although it necessitated climbing a ladder, not very wise as I was still feeling decidedly wobbly, but it’s done now. Amazing how filthy they get!

I settled down to watch an epic tennis final between Sinner and Alcaraz last night but poor Sinner looked how I had been feeling and had to throw in the towel after only five games, all of which he lost.

Poor lad then had to go through the trophy ceremony when he must have been longing to lie down somewhere cool. The temperature in Cincinnati has been extreme with players dropping like flies.

I have a couple more rooms to clean today then I hope all will be fit for DD1’s arrival on Thursday.

I also have a doctors appointment this evening, originally just to get a prescription, but I will mention how unwell I’ve been feeling whilst I’m there.

My mum used to make chutney, piccalilli, jam, marmalade etc but I haven’t ever felt the urge to follow in her footsteps. I’m too bone idle, basically! I think you’re a marvel, grandMattie🤩

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Good morning from Holland where the sun is shining ✨️.
Today we are going by train to Vlissingen, a coastal area not far from the marina where we are moored.
This has been such a relaxing couple of weeks that it will be hard to leave DH to fly home on Friday.
A friend is flying out to travel home with him across the channel, hoping to be back sometime next week.
I know many of you have a lot going on in your lives at the moment and I wish you well.
Best wishes to all xx
