Good morning from a noticeably cooler Glasgow. Overcast but dry and the dratted high winds are back.

No idea why, after years on GN I had to log in this morning?

I had a very busy productive day yesterday running errands and most enjoyable, some time in the garden pruning. My garden bin was emptied and returned damaged, badly bashed in at the front making less space for refuse. One of today’s tasks is to contact our council to complain with photographic evidence. I won’t hold my breath for a solution ie. new bin.
Other than that, yet another trip to the bank, 4th visit as my PIN number still refuses to work!😡 Meds check at the surgery this afternoon.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

Good morning and it feels cool . lovely!

Yesterday’s lunch out was rather disappointing. The food was poor and very sparse. The company was good and sitting in the pod overlooking the river is so lovely. Swans and egrets, ducks and geese , all very enjoyable. Shame about the food.

Today I’m booked for a pedicure . I won’t go to Bridge as my eye isn’t ready for driving yet.

When I was at the hospital last week, chatting to a lady while waiting for our ops, we got on to the subject of playing Bridge.
She and her husband lived in Warsaw for a while working for the Consulate. Omar Sharif came to their home and played bridge with them. She said ‘he was gorgeous’ 😅. Always was my pinup!

Take care all 🌼

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed but will get up soon.

It was good to be able to drive yesterday for the first time in over a week. I put on a softer thumb support so I could move my hand a bit more. I did a Waitrose shop and attended my diabetes prevention course. Basically eat less of some foods, more of other food and eat less anyway.

Our cleaner was back from her holiday so the house is sparkling.

I am seeing friends this afternoon. OH has several phone calls to make including chasing up a scan he should have had in June! I’ve also asked him to find another window cleaner.

I’m thinking of MaryD and the FGT2S.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a cloudy start to the day .Please listen to advice Mick and take it easy, rest up for a while
I’m off to the gym this morning for a couple of classes and then my usual routine of walking back into town along the riverside and the bus home. I might pop into M&S food for some inspiration, we’ve mainly lived on various types of salads throughout the summer but feeling like a change now. It’s back to school for the DGC here today, a big day for DGS moving up to senior school, he seems to be looking forward to it and has already met a pal who lives locally to walk to school with.
Baubles ❤️
Oh dear Bellas it’s awful seeing DGC upset isnt it
Grandmabatty you definitely deserve a sticker too, hope you have another good day today
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good Morning Mick and all GN's up and about this grey and cooler tuesday morning here in north yorkshire. I have got the washer going and slowly, at snails pace. am trying to get myself going.

I surpassed myself last night by coming in very weary and shattered from my trip to Harlow Carr, sitting down too weary to start anything. Then was watching a very interesting programme about Henry March who was a brain surgeon. I have seen things about him before. He was brilliant and brave and was prepared to risk operations for people who other surgeons would not attempt anything and sent them home to die. It was very interesting, and I didnt want to miss any, also too weary to make much effort. Next thing I knew it was 3.30am and I had fallen asleep in the chair.!! Very bad news for me, as not only did I miss the last of the programme, but sitting upright is exactly what NOT to do to help me. Yes I did sleep, because I was exhausted I suppose, but flipping heck didnt I pay for it. My legs both hurt and were swollen, my back was awful and generally just struggling to find anywhere to lie in comfort. So struggled into bed, raised legs on a pillow and dozed a bit until I gave in about 5.30am , when I went for the next best thing. Got in the shower, which helped a bit, but not much, and so here I am finally cleaned and dressed but struggling.

Well , yesterday I managed to go to Harlow Carr RHS garden near Harrogate. I have a bit of a problem as I cannot go round without using one of their trampers. They only open at 9.30am so cant ring earlier to check if there is one available. If not , no point in going. I can book in advance, but the problem with that is I dont know how I am going to be day to day, so if I book one and then cant manage to go, have to ring up and cancel last minute. My own yellow peril is of course much too big to go in the car, so a bit of a vicious circle. Anyway could have set off about 7.30am, but had to wait until they opened, but was lucky in that they had one available, so it was quick picnic making and getting off.

Of course being holiday time it was very busy and yet again you get the selfish idiots that you could shake!! I struggle even to walk from the disabled bays to the entrance. A lady was putting things in the boot and said she was coming out. I wanted to back up to give her and easy exit, but moron of the day would not back up and nor would he go round. Stupid to himself as it was clear that I was waiting for that space, with my indicator going, and he just made it more difficult for everyone. Why dont they use their brains occasionally? Anyway eventually the lady left I got into the space and then had to sit and have a coffee before I could collect all the necessary stuff, mac, water etc etc., and then struggled down to the entrance.

My steed was ready waiting for me, and have been quite a few times before with the buggies, so got myself sorted and off round the garden. Everywhere looked lovely, but quite autumnal, which I had been trying not to notice yet. It was lovely to see families and children getting interested in the gardens. They also have a woodland playground for them which was very popular. With the aid of the buggy I managed to visit every corner of the garden, and around the beds. The only problem was I couldnt manage to get on and off today to smell the roses, which was a little sad. Anyway it was all splendid and worth visiting. Met quite a few people on holiday here and talked to various people. Was able to give some advice on bits and pieces and tell people the names of plants. Also passed on things about the NGS gardens that were reasonably local. A couple who had come from down south really enjoying the garden and were staying for a couple of weeks so I passed on info about my beloved Muker show and swaledale. turned out that the man was a brass band enthusiast so was keen to hear Muker silver band and all the great agricultural things , so might see them at the show.

The dahlias were beautiful and all the things like rudbeckias and heleniums and the marvellous Stipa gigantia and the verbena bonariensis were wafting about in a bit of breeze. The alpine house was full of minute but lovely plants and made me think that perhaps that is the way I might go here, which would allow me to grow loads of things but small. There was the most amazing tiny hosta called Mouse I think and a very tiny eucomis. I have grown eucomis but only the normal size. Well it was a great day to see the garden and I was glad that I had been and resolve to g o again soon, but probably once the schools go back and I can meander at a slow pace round the garden. I havent been to the new RHS Bridgewater and would like to go. So I may look at B/B as it is too far away to go in one day and get back. Besides knowing me I will be there when they open and still probably be the last one to be chucked out at night!!

So today, once I can get myself moving I need to go and try and get this flipping computer sorted out. It is playing silly beggars with me, intermittent faults and the other morning I wrote my usual screed very early and the ..... thing disappeared into the ether and never seen again. So shall be hoping to see my great techy friend Arnie who may have some great ideas (fingers crossed) . Then I also need to go to the doctors, firstly to stick in my prescription and hope that they will have all they need. The last couple of times they have had to hunt for items and have had to go back to them, which is not a good feeling when you dont know when or how you will get the next lot. I have also been called in for a yearly check up, mostly about my diabetes, so have to arrange a longer appointment for that. I hope by the time I actually get to see them my foot will have healed up, as I dont want to have to admit that I was walking round without slippers on in the flat!! Smacked hands! Well I am reluctantly very virtuous about wearing shoes or slippers outside , but I do miss that lovely feeling of walking on grass in bare feet.

I always feel ready to look at something new at this time of year. Being a lecturer and teacher september is of course a start of new year at school and college, and I still have that mixed anticipation of looking forward to new things and wondering who and what will be at the new start of the year. so these days it is more grab the local paper and look to see what is happening and what classes I might join. But of course firstly have the pleasure of Muker show and swaledale and friends to meet up with after a summer where many have been on grandparent duties and we havent met up for some time. The main thing I must be careful about is doing the equivalent mentally of "eyes bigger than belly" with food, as I will be looking down the list of options and deciding that I must do at least 7 different classes and try and cram too much into a week, especially remembering that the weather willnot be so good later, So, like a child in a sweety shop I shall remind myself that I may only go to 3 at the most per week. Well we shall see!!

Now, as pot calling kettle black Mick, please take things gently and allow extra time to do things. But it gives you an opportunity to ditch the things you dont like doing, so give up on dusting and hoovering and spend more time watching the cycling for a little while. Do hope that you will soon feel better and if the weather cools down a bit it may be more comfortable for you. Multicolourswapshop, so I am not the only one whose posts disappear. I wonder if there is the equivalent of the Borrowers swiping our messages to read for themselves! GranMattie love the sound of the High Dumpsie jam. Used to make quite a lot of jam, but now being diabetic and living on my own dont make any, so cant be tempted to eat it. Miss my lovely victoria plum tree which provided us with loads of jams and crumbles in the winter.

Well my washing machine has stopped, so I need to creak my way there and empty it out and then get it on the line. Still grey here no sign of any sunshine, but it will at least allow us to do some jobs that we have put off in the heat. Who knows we might just get a drop of rain!! Could definitely do with a downpour. The resevoirs are so low at the moment. I am proud to have a scruffy dirty car at the moment, not wasting good drinking water to wash a flipping car. as long as they can read the numberplates that is all that counts. Another great excuse to avoid a job on the grounds of saving water!! Hope everyone has a good day today and we all get less creaky as the day goes on

Good morning, everyone from a cloudy south coast where the sun is trying to break through.
Allotment this morning. It will be nice to see the others for a chat and a laugh. August is a funny month. Most U3a groups have a month off but of course we can’t or everything would die. It was hard to keep spirits up when it was so hot.
Peggy is not at all well. I’m feeding her little and often as she can no longer cope with a bowlful. She seems content with that.
Hope everyone has the best possible day.

monk08 Tue 19-Aug-25 08:04:26

Good morning all from the Black country.
Slept for 5hrs again the kalms seem to be helping.
Ironing today I like to do it the same day as the wash if possible, but there was no sun here until teatime so the washing took longer to dry.
Think we are meeting friends at the club this evening still to be confirmed.
I shall be taking a break from posting my days seem to be very much the same with not a lot happening.
Mick please do take care.
Wishing everyone a pleasant day.☀️

Good morning from a bright and warm Suffolk. I’m meeting a good friend later for a walk if her arthritic feet are up to it and lunch at the seaside.

I haven’t seen her, unusually, for about 4 weeks as her youngest daughter and family live in Scotland and have been down for a couple of weeks and we had had our northern one here too. We always chat for at least 3 hours but today will probably be a mammoth one.

Hope all have the best one possible especially those with illness and worries to contend with.

Good morning from a grey midlands.
Mick you need to rest! You’ll make yourself worse.
Knitting group this afternoon.
Hugs to all suffering.

Grammaretto Tue 19-Aug-25 08:36:08

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where the haar is here although it may lift and we'll have another perfect day.

My walk yesterday was 7½miles , rather too long for my comfort. It was pretty enough, straw bales in the fields, riverside woods with dappled light in the East Lothian countryside.
Litterpicker?

My Danish helper is leaving this morning. We cooked a haggis meal last night which we all enjoyed.

Pottery today to have things ready for September shows.

Do take care Mick .

You deserve stickers Grandmabatty
As do you gMattie.
You do so much for others.

Hoping everyone has a good day.
Thinking of FGT and Marydoll

Wonderful Cleaner and Tom painting the dresser both due this morning so life may be a bit complicated though it will all be worth it I am sure. Bed changing and laundry and some domestic admin will keep me busy at a gentle pace. Glad the temperature is a bit lower even even though there is no rain forecast for us for days to come and the garden looks quite sad.

Am full of admiration for Madeleineand all our busy posters and wish I could summon up the energy to be a bit more constructive, but maybe when we are all complaining about the wind and the rain I will find some.

Georgesgran Tue 19-Aug-25 08:47:55

Good Morning from Durham. A light film of rain in the Velux first thing. It’s heavily overcast and still. On my walk with Little Dog last night I was bitten to bits by midges/mozzies - no idea really, but I’m so itchy.
I have a late morning call due from the Surgery to discuss my annual blood tests. Results have been online for weeks and there doesn’t seem to be anything unusual.
You really are your own man Mick! despite others concern you take absolutely no notice and do nothing!

Thinking of Marydoll and FGT today.

Best wishes to all. X

GrannyIvy Tue 19-Aug-25 08:55:31

Good morning from a very grey Cambridgeshire. I hope the sun will push through. I’m trying to decide what to do today. DH is painting the gate and doing other jobs in the garden and has lawn bowls later. I feel like a garden centre is beckoning or a walk around some gardens. My roses are looking very good although annoying my window cleaner as they make it extremely difficult for him to get to my windows!!

Hope everyone has the best day possible

kittylester Tue 19-Aug-25 09:00:42

Maybe Mick is following the advice of the medics he has seen in A&E.

Marydoll Tue 19-Aug-25 09:16:02

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12°C.

I gave been coughing since 4am, yet his lordship never stirred.
He probably couldn't hear me over his snoring. 🤣
At least I will be in a good state for my COPD review next week! My cough usually disappears before my appointment.😉

Yesterday, once again I did very little.
Monday is my faffing about day at church, tidying up after the weekend, however, to everyone's surprise, after dropping off the supplies, I was out before the before the linen ladies and the sacristan. I am usually there for hours.
It feels as if I am dragging a huge Clydesdale 🐴 . I am so weary
When picking up the glucose drinks in Asda, I spotted a colourful and tactile shorts and t shirt set for BabyD in the sale. I got home to find it was for a boy!!
DIL won't care.🤣

Yesterday, DH arrived back home after only an hour of golfing. He is such a spoilsport, ruining my peaceful morning.😉
The battery on his trolley was faulty and I did feel sorry for him. The course is hilly and very steep and his trolley and bags, heavy.
Rather than buy a new one, (they are obsolete and he would also need a new trolley into the bargain), he decided to repair it on the coffee table.😡
His father was exactly the same!

However, he did redeem himself, by going to the tip and getting rid of everything, that had been piling up, including Dollie's old Wendy house.
It has only taken him a couple of months.

I also tidied up my medicine cupboard -s-, I am embarrassed by the amount of medication, which was out of date,
My heart medication kept changing, due to the fact that an appropriate one couldn't be found. I held onto it, just in case.
I hope it isn't like the dried goods cupboard, that I rearranged on Sunday. It is so tidy, bu I can't find anything, I shouldn't have wasted my time and energy!!!

I have some hems to take up, so taking it easy today. just like yesterday, I will sit in the conservatory, with the doors wide open, counting my blessings.
My plan is to get out early and go to M&S food hall for some of DH's treats which he doesn't deserve., then home to raid the freezer, for something for dinner.
I won't be doing my usual Tuesday, Silverburn TKMAXX foray.

Mick I am not being unkind, however those of us, have suffered heart attacks have offered advice, but you continue to ignore it. Why?
I was on bed rest in hospital for a week after each heart attack and they weren't major ones, but I was fit to do nothing.
I'm surprised you weren't kept in after what was your second visit to A&E in days.
You really are foolish, gadding about, especially on buses in this warm weather, feeling unwell, when you should be giving your heart a rest.
I understand that you look forward to the company, but your health is more important.
Here endeth my rant.

Lulu, better news from you, thank goodness.

Kalu, I wish you luck with bingate. I contacted the same LA, when our grey bin was swallowed by the refuse lorry. They wanted me to pay for a new one and said it would take a month to deliver.
I received a new one, free of charge the following day.
I am a force to be reckoned with!

Have a pleasant day folks and some relief for those Goodmorningers, who are in pain. ♥️

I have given up trying to sort the typos, my brain is mush! 😵

Greyduster Tue 19-Aug-25 09:24:22

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it looks very much like rain today. I am only up and about now because the window cleaner is here, or I would probably still be asleep, having been floored by some sort of allergy yesterday and then suffered a painful bout of cystitis during the night. I shall go back to bed for a while and pull the shutters down on today.
Have the best day you can folks.

aggie Tue 19-Aug-25 09:31:51

Good Morning from a dull clammy Co , I actually slept last night
Did Lidl and M xS yesterday , larder is not as empty , we have a very good Spar , so I top up there
My tomatoes are ripening faster than we can eat them , so the ones on the plants that were given to me are being turned into sauce (as shown by Monty ) , I’ve never had such flavourless tomatoes , but they do improve by simmering
I must say my crop is a lot earlier this year
Today is for taking it easy , not that I ever over exert myself !
Hoping today is better for the struggling

Jaxjacky Tue 19-Aug-25 09:37:25

Monk08 my days aren’t exciting either, take care.

Grandmabatty Tue 19-Aug-25 09:37:46

greyduster my sympathies. Cystitis is a horrible thing. I've had it often in the past. Cranberry juice and some powder from the pharmacy usually helped.

Blossoming Tue 19-Aug-25 09:39:52

Good morning everyone from cloudy Lancashire.

MrB has been shopping and I have had a lie in. I can hear the robot vacuuming the kitchen floor while I drink my morning tea. No real plans for today. We will enjoy our usual walk after breakfast.

I hope you’re OK Mick and no health scares today.

Thinking of our poorly grans and those with troubles.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing 🌹

BlueSapphire Tue 19-Aug-25 09:45:57

A late good morning from a very cloudy and overcast Northampton; late because I didn't wake up till 7.45 then stripped the bed and put the load in the washing machine, then emptied the dishwasher. By the time I sat down with my mug of tea the cat plonked herself on my lap making it difficult to write on my tablet, and she has only just moved!

Mick I have said before and am echoing what others have said, you should not be gallivanting out and about especially after two recent heart scares. Please listen.

Yoga was interesting yesterday as the muscles that were aching after Sunday's gardening were exactly the ones that our teacher concentrated on! Still it forced me to use them which I suppose was a good thing...

When I got home I had a fancy to make cottage pie! So got the mince out of the.freezer, quickly defrosted it in the microwave, and threw everything in the slow cooker. There was enough for five portions, so I enjoyed one for dinner.and the others will go in the.freezer. Luckily I had a packet of Idahoan mash in the cupboard so that made a quick topping.

The bedding is now waiting to be hung out. After that, coffee and an early lunch, then out to join my walking group. There's a bit of mash left over so planning on making tuna fish cake for dinner - I opened a can for a sandwich yesterday so can use what's left of that.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Just about made morning! It's cloudy and cool in Cheshire but more invigorating than recently.

I'm late as my neighbour and friend was taken to hospital in the night and have been arranging care for her dog.

Have a good day making and baking all you busy people.

Best wishes to all and Mick take good care of yourself!
