Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but its dry here in Brackley at the moment.
My plans for the day , will all depend on a meal delivery from Wiltshire Farms as to doing things , times vary.
My Health is OK , since Monday I have not taken any Lopermide capsules which seems to have helped .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a grey dull slightly windy morning in North Yorkshire. There has been some rain last night but very little, not enough to do any good in the garden. I have my own rain gauge - the yellow peril. It has to stand outside near my door, the only place it will fit, so I have a waterproof cover over it. The cover over the basket in the front tends to dip and collect the rain water, so have my own little gauge with that.

Well I am hoping and trusting that today will NOT be a repeat of yesterdays frustration annoyance and shame!! All my plans for the day were put into total disarray. Struggled to even get up, was in a lot of pain and there was no way of easing it . Whatever I did it hurt. So knowing that I couldnt do much physically until some pain killers managed to take the edge off, I elected to shove some washing in the machine and then the intention was to catch up with much neglected paperwork and get up to date with info, pass my whats on to the womens group etc. So put washing in, but instead of my normal way of washing up and tidying up and making bed etc I just left it all in a slutty mess, made some coffee and sat down to get cracking. Huh! The wretched laptop would not work properly, but didnt totally stop but intermittently went off, wouldnt do what I was trying to do and in general really infuriated me as I was already on a short straw from the start of the day. I tried various things and one time it would work and then the next time it would not. So I ended up ringing Upfront and managed to get an appointment to see the techy genius at 1210. So that was another plan gone west. I needed to renew my prescription, and had a note from the surgery asking me to make an appointment re diabetes. Hunted high and low and could not find my prescription anywhere. I usually put it in a particular place and stupidly kept looking back there expecting it to suddenly become visible. Everywhere was in a total mess and I was feeling really annoyed and uptight. Was wearing my old trousers and top to do round the flat with my clean trousers and top ready to put on to go out. Then there was a knock on the door. I wasnt expecting anyone and thought it could be a neighbour about something.

Looked at the smartly dressed young woman, vaguely recognised her face but that was all. She had a folder with her and smiled and said Good Morning. I just looked at her and then said Can I help you? She said she had come for the meeting and hadnt I received the appointment.? No I flipping had not!! So I had to invite her into the tip, and wasnt prepared and hadnt got my questions and information ready. I looked a mess and felt very ashamed to let her into the mess.

She was very pleasant and insisted it didnt matter etc etc., but I felt humiliated and upset and wanted to say to her that I didnt live in this sort of mess all the time, but anyway we sorted some of the things I needed to speak about. She was from my surgery and I then felt she will be going back there saying poor old soul isnt coping etc etc. She left, and then I hadnt time to put the washing out, nor find the prescription etc as it was nearly time for appointment re laptop. So a hurried wash and changed into decent clothes. Stress level extremely high, had a job finding anywhere to park and carting things did not improve the pain threshold.

When I got to see Archie and unloaded the laptop and set it up with my keypad etc firstly it wouldnt go wrong!! Felt like sorting it out once and for all by slinging it through a window. However , hurray it then went wrong, and I was cheered by the fact that Archie had problems with it too and couldnt seem to sort it. Well that was cheering to me and stopped me thinking I was becoming useless etc. In the end after much hassle and of course the internet went off twice during all this , it turned out to be an intermittent fault with the mouse!!

I tottered out of there in urgent need of a coffee, and went to cafe nero for a much needed coffee and treated myself to an apricot croissant . They are shrinking I see, in size , yet the price remains the same, but the ladies there know me well and it was the last one and she heated it up for me and so it was a delicious treat and let me sit and calm down, search all through my bags and pockets to confirm that the missing prescription was nowhere to be found and accept that I would have to leave it until later. Then had to go to Tesco, where I was not able to get a variety of things I wanted and then home.

I was due to go to the games night at the pub and so just did a few bits and the washing still didnt get put out so altogether a rubbish day, added to by the fact that the post had arrived whilst I was out and it included the letter informing me that this lady would be visiting me which had been posted on august 12th and is a local letter!!!! It was actually a very good job I went to the games as it gave me something to use my brain for , that didnt include feeling furious. As part of the game you are trying to make things difficult for other players, and I was definitely on form last night and foiled several plans of other people.!! I can imagine people arranging to have important chess or games match ringing up to rearrange the date for one where they had been really annoyed to be able to put all that effort into the game.

So thank goodness it is another day. The wind has picked up a little and so once I feel up to moving around a bit, I shall be going up on the trustworthy yellow peril to hang out the washing , have already got all the rubbish out for the bin men to collect, so then I plan to wash up and leave the kitchen tidy and will get ready and go to the surgery to sort out about the diabetic meeting time and have to speak to someone re my prescription as usually I put in the repeat one and have to put it in a week before I need it.

So today is going to be a day of sorting things out , and as my back is not good I dare not attempt to plant anything but am going to hopefully go through lots of books, rejigging my bookshelves in the bedroom, and elsewhere and at least tidying up books which were rather slung on the little settee when I needed the strong bag there were in to go out. Another part of the shambles!! I am going to leave a note for the lady to tell her that the information on arrived that afternoon because they need to know how flipping useless the post office is. If I actually see her , I shall feel like kidnapping her and bringing her back here to prove that I do not normally live in a total tip!! Another thing today is to start plotting which council meetings or councillors surgeries I shall be going to to carry on my mission to improve the roads and paths round here. A useful way to let off steam - but politely of course!! So I would say from a number out of ten for stress levels yesterday was 15!! Good job no one was taking my blood pressure yesterday. Today it has gone down to perhaps 7 and by the time I have sorted out prescriptions etc etc and done a bit more catching up I shall be in a calm fit state to go to play whist tonight . That is a real pleasure on several levels now. Living alone, there are plenty of things I enjoy in particular to be able to listen to my Bach without any interruptions, leave books whereever and know they will not be moved by anyone etc etc, but I do miss things like cards and games that we used to play. When my husband wasnt very well and couldnt move around much, we would sit on miserable afternoons, playing dominos or whist or whatever, with the radio on and some decent coffee. It was pleasurable in itself, cost nothing, and helped him to feel he was doing something he wanted to do, rather than thinking hewas just stuck, unable to do much. The whist drive is my once a week trip to this little village, and I enjoy the company as much as the game and always feel I return home in better spirits than when I went. Although of course, I miss that coming in to tell him how it went etc.

Mick , I am pleased you are feeling a little better, and think that it might be a good thing you have to wait in for the delivery and take it easy.grandMattie, hope your people come early and leave you with a bit of time to yourself. Hope Iris enjoys her RDA event. I used to teach at a riding school and very involved in all sort of stuff, dressage , three day events, gymkanas etc and still follow a lot about horses and enjoy seeing how much pleasure the children get from their ponies at the shows. Sallyforth hope you have a good lunch and enjoy the trip out. Commisserations about waking early. I know how that feels. They do miss that when the fairy godmother gives three wishes in stories. Oh to have the wish granted to be able to sleep when you needed to ! My lucky husband obviously had been granted that wish, as he could go to sleep whenever he wanted. I was very envious of the ability and used to ask him what he did to get to sleep but he could never explain in a way that helped me, alas.

Well I hope today is a good day for everyone and look forward to reading all your posts . This cooler weather does let us all do some things we have put off in the heat so good luck catching up with jobs and award yourselves a cup of coffee for all your efforts.

Good morning everyone from a dull muggy Cambridgeshire.

Yesterday I went to walk around the gardens at Anglesey Abbey NT property. The Dahlias and roses were gorgeous. It was fairly quiet considering it is still the school holidays but the cafe was busy so pleased I had my picnic with me.

Today DD2 and I are off to Cambridge for shopping and lunch together it has been ages since we last did this on our own. DH has a bowls match this afternoon probably his last one this season.

Wishing everyone the best day possible

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12°C.

Another restless night, has left me feeling woozy.
I must have been rather active, I woke up to find myself lying under the mattress topper.
I couldn't work out why the sheet had a strange texture. Now I know.🤣

After my visit to M&S food hall, couldn't be bothered with the clothes section, I spotted a large, seductive 70% red sign in Monsoon,
The rows of jewel coloured clothes always cheer me up. I was only in for a few minutes, when I gave myself a shake, knowing I do not need another dress.
As I was leaving, I spotted a beige, cotton, quilted gilet, which was hanging on a rail. Just my style,, I thought.
A tiny Chinese lady, tapped my arm and said, it was hers. Well not hers, but her sister's, and she wasn't giving it back, because it was a Barbour. I couldn't stop laughing, especially as it was far too small for me🤣!

In Accessorise, I spotted a few things in the sale for Dollie.
It came to £6,60, so decided to pay in cash. The young cashier was getting flustered and I asked if she was short of change, She was, so I offered her another £1.50, looking for £5 in return.
She had a totally bewildered look on her face and hadn't a clue what to do.
The wee Glesca granny beside me in the queue joined in and we gave the young assistant a lesson on using cash, while we lamented the fact that most youngsters have no idea how to use use cash.
The young assistant was quite amused by our wittering (typical, Glasgow humour) and thanked me for her lesson! 😉

Usually, I have a wander, but not even TKMaxx could suck me in. It was homeand a rest for me.
Of course, resting is alien to me and my butterfly brain came up with the bright idea of dyeing my charcoal, coloured White Stuff denim jacket, intense black ( well that is what it says on the packet 😉)
DH thought I was mad, when I said I was off to the ironmongers just as the schools were coming out to get Dylon nachine dye.
I got caught in the traffic from four schools. That was an eye opener, regarding selfish parents, parked everywhere. The Highway Code, no longer applies and I was unaware of it. 😱
To summarise, the jacket looks great, the washing machine does not!🤣

In the evening, I received a message from DI, asking why I was at Silverburn, when I was supposed to be resting.
My children may as well put a tracker on me, there are spies everywhere.

Today, DH and I are off on an adventure to a restaurant in the West End, which we were given a voucher for.
The plan is to go to Glasgow by train, then buy an all day ticket for the Subway, then I won't have to walk far.
I am quite excited, DH and I both went to university in that area and like to reminisce and complain about how things have changed.
However, although we thought we had a childfree day tomorrow ( hence going out today) , DS messaged to say, could we childmind, DD has to go intto work, after the health visitor has been.
We were hoping for a rest after our Big Day Out.

Hoping those in pain or are unwell have a gentle day.
Enjoy your day folks.

Good morning from a dull Black Country, where it rained overnight.

Arrived home from our trip to Swanage around 2.30 pm, so not bad going on the M5. Lovely week away, with warm but not too hot weather. The campsite near Corfe Castle is fantastic, still a working farm too.

DGD2 (DD's eldest) is 17 today! This time next year she may be going to University. How is this possible?

Taking Mum to a Doctor appointment his morning, the pop over to DD's to see the birthday girl.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Good morning all from a bright start to the day from behind my curtains here on the east coast of Fife. I’ve been been busy this morning and ive managed to put clothes in the washing machine on a quick wash , I’ll change the setting later on to dry as I’m unable to hang my clothes outside where there’s a light breeze. I’m having the hall carpets cleaned today , my lovely cleaner is coming in as well, unfortunately she’s not as good as she thinks as I’ve had to go into various corners she misses out. Ie the conservatory corners has/have ? lots of spider webs and I’ve polished my windowsills, I’ve even cleaned the shower glass as the sun shines in and shows up the stains. Not to worry she’s a lovely lady and I’ll just keep her. I’m going to order a larger blue bin from the council as I’m entitled to do so

Have a good day my friends missing you already

Good morning from a cool but sunny Suffolk. I had a glorious 4 hours with my dear friend yesterday….a long walk along the prom with a stop for coffee at a kiosk overlooking the sea and then lunch at a very busy cafe outside overlooking the sea,all the time.

We had an interesting conversation with a man sitting at the next table on our coffee break who told us about one of his grandchildren studying to be a physiotherapist but his course was based on a no touch curriculum!

I have an additional monthly meeting this afternoon so I must read the last of the papers after our dog walk.

Hope today is a good one for all.

Morning from a cloudy S Hants where the sun is trying to get through.
Happy Anniversaries to latedecember and glammagran 🥂
Enjoy your day out BlueSapphire interesting.
MrJ is still, as they say, under the weather (what an odd phrase). Yesterday I sorted out my car and breakdown cover for the next year, both cheaper than this one surprisingly.
Requested prescription items online, picked our friend up from the airport and roasted a chicken for dinner.
Today I have my FA ringing and must get out in the garden.
Thoughts with those struggling.

Good morning from Durham, where I’ve just lost my post. It’s another still, overcast start to the day, it drizzled off and on yesterday, but didn’t seem to wet much.
I think I have a friend coming for coffee today. His wife is unwell, so plans often change.
My car needs new tyres, so that’s booked in for Saturday. I have the Decorator booked for Saturday too, but I’ll have to check he’s still coming as I’ll need to source some special wood stain, and wood filler.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning all from cloudy Lancashire. We’re at the eye centre for my next Botox. Have a good day everyone.

merlotgran Wed 20-Aug-25 08:42:45

Good morning everyone from a cloudy/sunny south coast. It will be a day in the garden for me as the hot dry weather is bringing on an early autumn and there is much to do.
I had a Tesco delivery yesterday which turned into a farce. The bottle of gin I ordered hadn’t had any of the security packaging/tagging removed and the very young delivery man thought it was funny and wouldn’t matter as it was obviously paid for.
I put everything away then attempted to remove the cage like packaging from the gin. I rarely buy gin these days and didn’t have an empty bottle so I couldn’t decant it.
The large security tag was still flashing so it was obviously still live. That should have warned me not to tamper with it!!
I fetched my wire cutters from the shed but the moment I heard the satisfying snip the alarm went off and wouldn’t stop. It also set off my smoke alarm so the noise was deafening! 😱😱
I removed the bottle from the cage but the only way to silence the tag was to dunk it in a bowl of water. Thankfully the smoke alarm was stopped by the usual flapping of a tea towel. Thank goodness my neighbour was out!
Where is it now??
I placed it in an empty carrier bag - Tesco of course, buried it in soil and put it in with my black bag rubbish which unfortunately had just been emptied so I will spend the next two weeks listening out for muffled bleeps from the bottom of my bin! 😩
The moral of this tale?
If in doubt, send it BACK! 😂

Good morning from a dull Stockport.
It was dull and chilly all yesterday and I wore a long sleeved top for the first time in ages.
I had a busy day, washing bedding and sorting clothes, I still slept no better but that is the norm now.
My somewhat difficult friend will visit this afternoon, I must learn to just listen to her tales of perfect family and refrain from asking why they don’t visit her more.
My GD and BF are off to Alton Towers today , free tickets gifted to them, they will have a day of fun and queuing for the scary rides.
Best wishes as always to the poorlies and their carers and of course to everyone for the best day you can manage.

Good Morning from a cool and cloudy East Lancashire! Hairdressers today, so will take the chance to potter around town while I am GC free this morning and get my eyebrows done too!!
Back to GCs childcare later this afternoon and evening until son-in-law is home. Then we have a few days GC free to finish up some decorating and have a belated Christmas present to enjoy to Riverdance 30 this weekend and generally do very little!!
As DD is away to see DB and Ddad - she will be able to transport some birthday presents I have yet to wrap for another of the GC who has a September birthday coming up.

I overslept!

It is the WI summer outing today. We are going on a steam train and having tea. Should be fun.

A very early Good Afternoon from Weston super Mare. It's very dull today after all the good weather we have been having. I went out picking grapes/damsons/apples and have the pleasure of plucking all the grapes off the vine and squashing them to make wine with. I'm also waiting in for a delivery.......I bought a new steam generator iron yesterday and have a pile of ironing up to the ceiling. I can't wait for it to come. It's cheese toasties for lunch and this afternoon I will be putting those damsons in gin ready for ssssh......you know what in December. And....I might just have room for a nap after lunch. |Happy Days everyone. Enjoy your afternoon.

Marleygirl Wed 20-Aug-25 16:26:47

Good afternoon all. Warmest wishes to those waiting for medical test results. Just home from chatting on local radio studio after request to talk about favourite hobbies, in particular my home winemaking days. It all started at this time of the year with a surfeit of Bramley apples in the wheelbarrow one year and a suggestion "why not turn the harvest into some wine"!. Ended up with a forty year hobby which took me all over England entering said wine into exhibition competitions. Difficult now to lift the demijohns, but just seeing piles of apples and blackberries lying around the garden starts off a yearning to get doing with the sachets of wine yeast. Such good fun! Anyone else out there interested in wine-craft?
