What do you bring back from abroad now?

No Bordeaux Chesnel Rillettes, no meat, no cheese, including fromage blanc.😢
So this year, apart from wine and cider I brought back biscottes, K2R, Savon de Marseille stuff, KitKat balls and my favourite Kitchen roll where you can just use 1/2 a sheet. 9€ for 12 rolls. You can get it in the UK, but it’s much more expensive.
What do you bring back?

Magnet even!🤣

Milest0ne Fri 22-Aug-25 01:28:34

Fridge. Magnets and t-shirts, carefully checked that they are made locally. I have so many I still have 20 year old t-shirts I bought in Peru, but I didn’t buy any in China or USA.

Wine glasses from Canada. Lots of fridge magnets from all over the world, a cuckoo clock from Austria and many other household things for my home

A picture post card which I note the date and highlights.

MaggsMcG Fri 22-Aug-25 13:28:04

Fridge magnet and pens

Just been sent a link from DD to a firm who will supply things like Bordeau Chesnel Rillettes and other products we now aren’t allowed to bring back.
How is that right?

Earrings! Especially ones from Australia, although I probably have enough - and they don't take up any space. Likewise DH with his Christmas decorations from all over the world, we have too many for the tree now! I do like to buy clothes abroad to get something a bit different. One of our granddaughters in Australia is very creative and goes to art classes so she often does something special for us to bring home, which we treasure.

Cling film from Spain. Much cheaper and with a sharp cutter to get the correct size without any faff.

A streaming cold- 5*, with cough, achey limbs, brain fog,, but most of all with a nose running like a tap.

Oh yes!
Why are we such wusses that we can't be trusted with sharp cutters on the boxes?
I bring from France or order Bacofoil on Amazon.

I think it's more the environmental aspect rather than we can't be trusted 😉

How is that right?

Commercial food exporters have to follow regulations and prove the source and adherence to regulations of their supply chain.

Thanks OldFrill
But it’s still silly that I can buy exactly the same products that have been banned from being brought back from holiday, when I can get them either from our local supermarket or online with p&p included.

lainieb56 Sat 23-Aug-25 12:50:02

I will bring back at least one key ring, one fridge magnet, and a post card.ost of the time there will be at least 4 of each for.my friends/ family. O don't bring food or drinks back. They never last long enough to be a.memory lol

Especially as you're going to take it straight from your car to your fridge without it seeing the light of day. It gets my goat, (no pun intended 🧀), that disease in a herd of buffalo (?), 1300 miles away, means that I can't bring home Breton butter.
Actually, having done four trips back already this year I am managing to find products made with UHT milk which are allowed, but obviously not meats.
I do understand that this has to be a blanket ban, I am in a farming county, but the sooner the UK lifts the ban, the better!

How is that right?

Imported using the correct procedures like the Epicierecorner site?

Mollygo Sat 23-Aug-25 13:33:31

Jaxjacky
Haven’t tried that one, but if they sell exactly the same brands I buy in the French supermarket, at inflated prices, plus p&p it seems ridiculous.
If they banned all EU meat and dairy products including the ones they import and sell with not for the EU labels so that they can’t be sold in the UK, that would make sense.

As olive oil has soared in price that would be good to bring back. Years ago my daughter brought me a big bottle and it got broken in her case, wrecking all her clothes and the case!

From France wine boxes and bottles (wine in boxes good quality). Salad dressings, mustards and jam. Ratatouille in tins. Tins of corn beef (much better quality).

A packet of Galettes, the lovely buckwheat pancakes.

Some ham - wonderful quality compared to ours.

Used to bring back cheese but DH not allowed it due to health condition.

RosieandherMaw Sun 24-Aug-25 10:21:47

@ escaped - la belle France bien sûr!
There was a guy coughing on the Eurostar so I swapped seats with my sister in law (who has bronchiectasis and darent get another chest infection ) so that could sit further away from him.
No good deed goes unpunished hmm

Jaxjacky Sun 24-Aug-25 10:36:21

Corned beef and ham aren’t allowed now mrsmeldrew
