My beautiful husband is not, nor has he ever been a touchy feely sort of man, oh he will hug or kiss if I ask him but on his own he probably wouldn't think of it, but that's ok we have been married 53 years (I am 69, he is 75) so I am totally cool with it.
I am very overweight, have osteoarthritis in my knees and hips and don't get around very well so showering can sometimes be a tad exhausting for me, so I have been tossing up the idea of getting a shower chair and a hand rail to help out. I had casually mentioned it in passing , just a thought at this stage.
Today my man had to go to the hardware store to get something manly, so off he went, when he came back I could hear him messing around in his workshop, then he wandered upstairs and I could hear him fiddling around in my bathroom. He had only gone and got me a chair and installed a railing for me.
That is my definition of love, not flowers or chocolates, a chair and a railing, oh and to top it off I got an unsolicited hug as well.
Today was an awesome day

How absolutely lovely Kartush. You have a treasure of a husband there and you appreciate him which is brilliant. A long marriage and I hope you have many more happy years.

Beautiful story.

My man is from a similar mould Kartush.

I’d wait years for flowers and chocolates (not my thing anyway, truth be told) but all jobs done in a timely manner, usually at my first request if funds allow.

Kartush, my definition too. Beautiful and much more real than all the `darling` words that people bandy about

Real true love, actions not words

What a lovely post, Kartush - you certainly have a treasure! How true that actions speak louder than flowers or chocolates!

Aveline Wed 03-Sept-25 09:27:50

I've always felt that you should look at what people do rather than what they say. My DH is like the OPs. Thank goodness!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 03-Sept-25 09:29:42

He is definitely a keeper

That's lovely, Kartush. He's a keeper! grin
As you say, love isn't just words or showy gestures - it's in the little things, and the actions which really mean a lot.

My husband has just returned from shopping and brought me a bunch of red roses. It is the little things.

B9exchange Wed 03-Sept-25 16:04:14

DH, paralysed and in a wheelchair, has just negotiated his way into the kitchen and managed to make and bring me a cup of tea as I am having a bad day

Greenfinch Wed 03-Sept-25 16:17:04

Wonderful B9exchange. That’s worth a lot isn’t it and shows how much he loves you?

poppysmum Thu 04-Sept-25 14:01:42

how lovely. thats mine too practically got to get him in a headlock to have a cuddle but its the little things that make the difference. we have also been through a hell of a lot in 9 years so getting through that though its been close at times, being together still is a miracle
