And they will keep on coming. Shabana Mahmood has her work cut out.

I’m astonished at how many posters have sent supportive p.ms to me today on this topic. People who agree with many of us on here apparently!

There may be many more who don’t post, unwilling to get the wave of retribution or sneering comments that often follow.

I have just read this post online in another group:

I’m currently in my final year of GP training. My GP surgery has been told to allocate time to treat HMOs housing boat men. We now have to block out 20 percent of our NHS appointments to accommodate this request.

One male GP and two of our female GPs have been assaulted while doing the home visits of these men. We’re encouraged not to report this to the police as it will ‘inflame community tensions’.

The partners at the surgery have pushed back, however NHS England have threatened to remove NHS funding if we don’t comply. We’re ‘encouraged’ to deny any of this is happening if asked by patients or the media.

^Please remember this when you can’t get an appointment and pass on the message.^

Crikey! That's the first I've heard of that....I guess the "powers that be" are keeping that one very quiet - as it feels like a whole "step or two" up from assaulting a person in the street and one wonders exactly what happened there. But this is these people assaulting medical personnel who are there specifically to check out/help with their health.

Personally - I'm wondering if the medics concerned can argue back against this in any way, eg "We have no spare capacity to cover that 20%" and "We need chaperones to accompany us all on home visits". After all - I've had a type of health treatment (on my feet - podiatry) back in the 1980s and no problem - as it was just the podiatrist and myself around and neither of us thought a thing of it (whether in the private sector or the NHS). He did the treatment/I said "thank you" etc and Job Done

But these days and needing the same thing again and expecting the same way of dealing with patients/clients again and it's "OOOh....must have a chaperone for their own safety" - even though I'm a short little British woman in her 70's and so hardly likely to be a threat of any description. That applies both in the NHS and private sector - as I've had to go to them both in the process of getting my feet sorted.

So surely the doctors union, etc, could have this raised as an issue?

Exactly, particularly those who disagree with FGT’s perspective. It’s always more comfortable to be a reinforcer than a dissenter, whatever the subject.

Mollygo Sun 07-Sept-25 17:46:51

Was the number of boats wrong then, Casdon?
Do you disagree with that number?

Actually, the Opening Post was straightforward facts as reported by the BBC and other news channels.

Shabana Mahmood has her work cut out.
I agree. She has a huge task ahead of her and I wish her all the best.

Sorry folks, butting in again. Was on the computer, and a post clicked up, (not Facebook), from an article in the Daily Record, saying that Farage is to blame for the small boats, because after BREXIT we lost the right to send then back.
If you click off now, you might find it too.

LovesBach Sun 07-Sept-25 18:02:22

Can we simply keep on taking hundreds of people, every day until there isn't a hotel room, ex militaary base or HMO left? It is disingenuous to say that people are racist when the subject is raised - it is a real concern, or should be, and those who wave banners suggesting immigrants are welcome should think about whether they can help by taking people home. Any reasonable person can see that the country cannot sustain this level of illegal immigaration.

LovesBach Sun 07-Sept-25 18:02:32

Immigration.

I don't listen to Farage and try to take a more objective view.

You should read previous comments, the post was fake news, designed to incite people.

The quote you provided, sparklefizz which starts with "I'm currently in my final year of GP training,"

sounds just like other fabricated stories that have been circulating online. It is not from a reliable or official source. There is no evidence from credible news outlets, government reports, or professional medical bodies that I can find.

I've just run it through Gemini and this is what it says:

The story has been widely debunked as a hoax or a piece of creative writing designed to spread on social media and forums. The use of specific, unusual, and inflammatory language is a common characteristic of such hoaxes. While the person posting may be a genuine forum user, the story itself is not based on facts.

Just thought I'd share this too.

Sparklefizz. Gemini is not a reliable source. Google it.
If you read what they say “while the person posting may be a genuine forum user, the story itself is not based on facts.”

All that means is they can’t find any facts, or so they say.

That old chestnut. Would they have compassion for you if they were plotting a terrorist attack?

travelsafar Sun 07-Sept-25 19:02:04

Maybe we need to do as we did in 2nd WW and barracade the beaches they land on. We thought it would stop our enemies back then. Just a thought🤔

woodenspoon Sun 07-Sept-25 19:06:51

Clearly I’ve touched a nerve as a post has been deleted. No surprise when you get near the truth.

What percentage do you reckon are plotting terrorist attacks?

Have you any idea how many white home-grown British people have been convicted for (or still being investigated for) terrorist attacks in the UK?

I suggest the sources of danger are already here.

Are you aware that some did still get through and that locals had to have licences to use the beaches and go fishing?

Read it! An analysis of the language makes it look like a fake.

From my post at 10.57
My understanding is that the GP contract requires them to treat people living in their area, there is a payment for each patient registered. If GP surgeries refuse to register asylum seekers they are in breech of their contract, when they register an asylum seeker they get paid for that individual. TBH I think "facts" in this case are being presented in a way to inflame people.

The number of "imports" is minimal. The cost of stopping all immigration would be phenomenal. If the aim is to minimise all extremist/terrorist attacks, the best use of resources is to concentrate on those already here.

Well wooden spoon, go straight to a nonsensical conspiracy theory that the gransnet mods are sitting around, waiting to delete “the truth”
I genuinely want debates on gransnet, My impression is even the “ usual suspects” want a debate. I’ve seen no one posting they welcome uncontrolled entry to our country, I’ve seen posts trying to discuss the reality we face, rather than offensive posts

woodenspoon Sun 07-Sept-25 19:20:50

That’s not what I said Iam64. Not at all. You’re over reaching here. Nothing about my post was offensive. I leave that to,others.

Iam64 Sun 07-Sept-25 19:28:26

It was deleted so breached gransnet

I’m increasingly bothered by polarisation. The inability to have debate
