Good morning from an almost balmy Bristol. I find the temperature variations interesting; some nights atm are as low as 9C and others, like last night, don’t go below 17C.
I had a good chat with DS in Tanzania: he’s settling in well and had had lunch in the town (about 1 mile away) eating pork! In India, he rarely had meat and pork was a great Nono. He has adopted a homeless/abandoned cat but was asking the family on WhatsApp what to call him. Much hilarity.
We had 23 attendees again at the coffee and chat. Apparently , it’s really picked up again since COVID.
Not much today, just church. I might finish the quilt I’m making. It’s probably going to be the quickest one I’ve ever made - just a fortnight.
May your day be peaceful and joyful. Have a blessed Sunday.

Good morning from s somerset, showers all morning

The forecast was wrong for today, I was mentally geared up and ready for a nice long cycle ride, so I went to bed early then the forecast changed overnight. A pity, I like going out on sundays, there is a calm atmosphere and not many cars

I am prepared for my 2 free hours of electricity later, had one hour free yesterday and decided to use it, after ignoring the free hours this summer. Everything was on and will be again today. It made me organise myself and prepare some meals

I am playing it by ear today but rain seems certain, even my phone says so. Oh well, bag making this afternoon then and more gansey knitting

Have a good day

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where there is what promises to be a spectacular sunrise.

I had a broken night with pain in my legs. Yesterday, after cutting the lawn, I went out and picked some sloes. On the way back up the lane, a large bull terrier came barrelling out of the adjacent field and cannoned into me. Its owner, who had another dog on a lead, was frantically calling it but this solid block of muscle either wouldn’t or couldn’t stop. It spun me round and had it not been for my stick, I would have ended up on the floor. As it was, I was bent double for a while. The man stopped to make sure I was okay and then shot off after the dog. I felt dazed by it but fortunately I wasn’t very far from home and met a neighbour who walked with me. I couldn’t stop thinking about it all evening. It could have been so much worse. These things sap your confidence when you live alone.

Today I have some paperwork to sort out and will put the paint samples I bought on Friday onto some sheets of card.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning, it’s dry at the moment here in south Glos but it’s supposed to be raining by 7am 🤷🏼‍♀️
It was very breezy here yesterday, the washing dried very quickly so I did the dogs beds and blankets as well as the throws. It’s always so satisfying when you get a good drying day (little things etc…)
I must clean out the fridge today before my grocery shop arrives, and make an apple crumble for pudding. I think we’ll have pork chops in cider sauce for dinner, I have homegrown runner beans and new potatoes from a neighbour 😋
Little else happening here, just bumbling along.
Hope today goes well for you all 🌹

grandMattie Sun 07-Sept-25 06:21:36

My poor greyd, how awful. That sort of thing really saps what little remaining confidence one has. Try to put it behind you. 🫂

Susan56 Sun 07-Sept-25 06:26:11

Good morning from Shropshire.Dry at the moment but every kind of weather forecast throughout the day. We’ll see!

A lovely day with the children yesterday. We bought a huge bag of Lego in the charity shop which kept them occupied.Later we watched The Thursday Murder Club with DD.We really enjoyed it.

Today DD’s in laws have invited us to their church. They will bring the children.I am not sure that it is our sort of thing as sounds different to what we are used to.Hopefully a quiet afternoon.

Hope Grandmadinosaur is recovering after her surgery.Thoughts with Blossoming, Marydoll and all with mountains to climb.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩🌻

Greyduster how frightening for you. What a shock. It will take some getting over.Take care💐

Ashcombe Sun 07-Sept-25 06:41:05

Good morning from a dry Torbay after a beautiful sunny day yesterday, but rain is forecast for today.

It must be reassuring to know that your DS has settled in happily to his new position, grandMattie. Before I moved down here, a mystery cat moved in with us so we called him Macavity. A visit to the vet established that he was actually a she!

That sounds like a horrible experience with the dog, Greyduster. I hope a restful night has put you on your feet, again as it were.

I enjoyed my early morning outing to Lidl yesterday. Driving along the roads at 7:30 on a Saturday morning in Torquay is bliss and I was pleased to notice that the recently painted red crosses on a local zebra crossing are already beginning to run, thanks to the recent rain. A few flags are noticeable in the same area.

Later my neighbour called in whilst I was ironing. She didn’t mind me continuing whilst we caught up with each other’s news. After that I had my daily Zoom call with DH who is keeping himself busy with maintenance jobs on his tumbledown cottage in France.

A blessed Sunday to you all. 🦩🥰✝️💐🦩

madeleine45 Sun 07-Sept-25 06:47:08

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still dark breezy morning in North Yorkshire. I have had another rubbish night and struggling to even move about at the moment , and have now added a cough to the selection of things to keep me awake.

Horrible cramp about five am, and having to be aware of what I am doing with my leg, so that I dont start it off again. Havent even dared to get in the shower yet, so somewhat fed up. However, good to know someone is awake and that things must improve. I havent even been up to making a coffee yet, which I am desperate for. So once I can get a coffee and let the shower help me feel cleaner and less creaky I can do something with the day.

I have no plans at the moment to go out to anything, but if it turns into a nice day I may go mad and sit outside and read for a while! It is going to be more sorting out of the flipping dresser stuff. I seem to be endlessly working at it and yet there doesnt seem to be a great change in the mess to cheer me on. However, if I continue as I am today, I will have no excuse to avoid it as not up to doing anything else!! So hope radio 3 has some favourite music on to cheer the day. Of course the job is slowing up as the obvious things have been moved and now it is wading through paperwork, which is something only I can do anyway. It is slow work as I have to decide if it is out of date or whatever, make sure that I have ripped off anything that gives my name or address or such like that wretched scammers could make use of before I can put it in the recycle or whatever. Quite enjoyable when I hear the rubbish news about people like Farage and Trump to rip things up with them in mind!!

Well at least I will have a good dinner without having to do a great deal. My little joint of pork was very good and I made a proper sunday dinner, with onions and apple sauce - which will now be stewed apple for pudding today. But oh it took me so much effort to make it and stand up etc. When I think of how I rustled up meals for 4 extra big rugby players brought home, and cooked a meal for 6 of us for the embassy people and in a cooker the size of a baby belling with only bottled gas, it is hard to see how much effort is now required to do just one meal for me. Never mind , I now look forward to cold meat and salad and a jacket potato. Nothing to have to think about, can eat it when I am ready for it, and only the jacket potato to cook. I do try to do as I used to when in a bedsit as a student all those years ago. One lot of cooking that provided me with at least 2 meals. So would cook up mince with lots of good vegetables in it, and then divide it and the other half would have tomatoes and peppers added and become bolognaise sauce to have with pasta. These days I do have the ability to just divide something and freeze the second half so that I have a choice of things to get from the freezer on days I cannot cope with standing cooking.

Anyway that is my uninspiring plan for today. It has got a bit lighter and can see the tree, where the branches are waving in the breeze, but sky resolutely grey and looks as though we might get the rain and no sunshine. Not a sign of the squirrel, not even any pigeons wandering about. Hurray for gransnet, to show me I am not the only person alive at the moment!!

Good that you have the cycling to cheer your day Mick. I wonder how Chris Frome is getting on. Havent heard any more about him on the news so hope it is not as bad as it sounded. grandMattie Lovely to speak to your DS and sounds as though he is settling in there well. Your church group is certainly picking up and hopefully amongst them there might be someone who will give you a hand and also make a cake that you can enjoy for once. Pity I am so far away or I would have made some parkin and brought it down, Karmalady is the electricity free because you agree to use it at off peak times or something else? I havent seen much about this scheme around here but dont think I could be part of it as , like today, I need to be able to have a shower to get going, or if I am very bad, feel the cold a great deal as I cant move about much , so either have to have a fire on or go to bed to keep warm, so dont think I would be able to make use of this idea. i=I hope that if it does rain you get a good downpour to help the g round and put a bit back in the reservoirs. We definitely need it. Here we have had annoying very short sharp showers which do no good for the gardens and we get soaked for nothing!

Ah well I am going to get myself some coffee, at whatever cost in aches and pains and then hopefully get in the shower and be able to make a start on things. Hope everyone has a calm and peaceful day and have the chance to speak to friends and family. Have a good day everyone

((hug)) for Greyduster after her fright 💐
Good Morning, sunny & 34 here today (& I hope there will also be a breeze!)
Grandma batty: I absolutely did enjoy that "copied from you" dinner w/ chips, lol!
Yesterday I surprised myself & did some chores...not that it actually made much of a dent in my to-do list. (So discouraging.)
Thinking of everybody who is struggling, & hoping all y'all have a good day!

kittylester Sun 07-Sept-25 07:07:32

Good morning all from a bright North Leicestershire.

I am aiming to do very little today apart from roast pork etc.

We had a lovely time with DGD1 on Friday night but she talks for England and at a million miles an hour. We took her home and had a good catchup with DD1 who is doing really well after her op. Dgd1 made a cake for her friend's birthday today.

Grandmabatty Sun 07-Sept-25 07:12:21

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 17° and dry albeit cloudy. I think the forecast is set fair. Greyduster that sounds like a really scary situation. I hope you are ok today. Ashcombe I'm the same at going food shopping early. I like quiet roads and peaceful supermarkets.
Yesterday I felt I was getting back into my normal routine after some weeks of change and disruption. Bed stripped, washing done then dried while I went to Aldi to stock up. Then I made mince in the slow cooker which bubbled away while I cleaned the bathroom, polished and hoovered.
Today I will do a very small ironing and make soup. My garden badly needs attention but I don't have the motivation to weed. I'll have to give myself a good talking to. This afternoon I'm meeting up with a friend for coffee and cake. She wants to unload about her boss who was also my boss and the most inept person you could think of! After that, home, dinner and an early night. Enjoy your day all

Redcar Sun 07-Sept-25 07:17:48

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. We have blue skies and sunshine again this morning, possibly a shower later. Yesterday was a lovely day, sunny and warm but the breeze was cool. I took out one of the tomato plants, not sure whether to take them all out now, still a lot of cherry tomatoes to ripen, and a few large ones. I don’t think they’ll ripen outside now, but will see how I feel later this morning. I don’t like to think that summer is over.

What a shock for you yesterday greyduster, I hope you’ll soon feel better. Dog numbers seem to have increased round here since Covid, many of them rescues from Eastern European countries.

grandmattie you must be pleased that your DS has settled well in his new job. Gratifying that numbers attending the Saturday coffee and chat have increased.

Thinking of those who are poorly or anxious for any reason. Have the best day possible everyone.

ginny Sun 07-Sept-25 07:25:34

Good morning from N. Bucks where we are forcast a sunny day.
I am meeting my scrapbooking friends for the day so lots of chat and crafting. DH is going to watch DGS play rugby and I will call in to see DD and family later this afternoon.
After losing my reading glasses last week , I am using an old pair which is better than none at all. I’ll order a new pair tomorrow.
Kind thoughts to all especially our poorlies and wishing everyone a good day.

cornergran Sun 07-Sept-25 07:27:59

Morning Mick, morning All fri a grey corner of Somerset. Rain forecast.

Yesterday’s two hour breakfast was both tasty and very loud with so many people , thankfully we were tucked away from the main dining room. Too windy for a sea front to be enjoyable we toured garden centres before coming home for a quiet end to the day.

Indoor bits and bobs today, one of ours will call later, I’m waiting to hear if our meal is for two or three.

Oh heck greyd; I’m not surprised that shook you.

Have the best day you can everyone.

BlueSapphire Sun 07-Sept-25 07:35:32

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton, and more of it is forecast for today, thank goodness.

I have just got up to find three foxes frolicking in my back garden, having the time of their lives! I rushed to take a photograph but they fled. They must be the culprits behind the many holes that keep appearing in my lawn.

My new gardeners arrived late yesterday afternoon and worked till 7pm; they are coming back this morning at 9.30 to finish off. At first sight I don't think they are quite as good as my previous gardener who let me down - and as there are two of them they are dearer. Shall give them a chance though.

After a late breakfast I shall be out to Women's World Cup Rugby again at our local stadium. It is another double header: first Italy v Brazil, followed France v South Africa. Should be good. I enjoyed yesterday's England /Australia match and also caught the second half of the Wales/Fiji one; was very pleased for Fiji's win. I am going laden with snacks as we shall be there from about 1pm till gone 7. When DD and her man drop me back home I am hoping one of them will change the light bulb in the utility room - it is way beyond my reach, even with the step ladder.

Have got a hotpot out of the freezer which I shall only need to reheat in the microwave when I get back.

Looking forward to an interesting day, and wishing all on here a pleasant day.

GrannyIvy Sun 07-Sept-25 07:35:54

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is sunny and 16 degrees expected to rise to 26 later but I can hear the wind and the trees blowing wildly. We think we will squeeze in probably our last BBQ this summer today. Not much else going on just tidying and sorting the the garden and house getting ready to go away next week.

Yesterday we spent a lovely afternoon with our neighbours celebrating a significant anniversary with their family and friends. They had decorated the garden up beautifully and their family really pulled together to organise everything.

Greyduster I’m sorry such a frightening experience. Hope you are feeling ok this morning. Lovely cake Kitty

Hope you now have your coffee Madeleine and your day goes well.

Wishing a good day to all. Special thoughts to those feeling poorly on this Good morning thread 🌻

brook2704 Sun 07-Sept-25 07:38:44

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve a mix of blue sky and grey clouds with a high of 22° forecast later
Oh my goodness greyduster what an awful fright, I hope you’re ok now
Good to hear your DS is settling in well gMattie
I’ve no plans for today so will just potter in and out of the garden and do a bit of housework along the way. I need to go through our clothes as we’ve both got things we no longer wear so I’ll either list on eBay or put them in the charity bag.
Lovely cake kitty well done to your DGD
I’m always losing my reading glasses ginny it drives me crazy! I’ve a few cheap pairs dotted around the house now so I can always grab a pair when needed 🤣
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings.

harrigran Sun 07-Sept-25 07:41:42

Good morning from a sunny NE. A bit milder this morning, the heating hasn't come on.
Yesterday DD rang me and we had a long conversation. I will see her next week, she is travelling to London to attend the Kanneh-Mason concert at the Barbican and then she will come north for a family meet up.
Today SIL is picking me up and we are going out for lunch with DS and family, it is GD1's birthday tomorrow. Family will return to my house after the meal, they are bringing the cake.
Have a pleasant Sunday.

glammagran Sun 07-Sept-25 07:51:24

Good morning everyone. Despite the weather forecast showing sun all day yesterday it certainly wasn’t here though it was quite warm.

I’m so sorry you had a fright with a dog not under proper control Greyduster. Such a relief to have not fallen.

We will pop round for a cup of tea with DD2. Hope the GC’s aren’t too manic. GS2 seems to have enjoyed his first week of school in Reception.

We are going to Crete for a week tomorrow but have to be up at 4am. Eek!!

Made a large coq au vin yesterday for dinner today. Takes a while to make but at least I can freeze some.

Have a good Sunday all.

Grandmabatty Sun 07-Sept-25 08:00:04

Glammagran have a lovely time in Crete.

Liberty Sun 07-Sept-25 08:03:29

Good morning from sunny Suffolk after a disappointing dullish day yesterday in spite of a good forecast. There is quite a gusty wind too which won’t help the still very dry ground.

I was talking to a lady at mykeep fit class last week anywho has a farm and she said that the cereal crop yield has been low and the grains were small and too dry. I expect we’ll feel the effect of that on some food prices later. Strangely I thought, the sugar beet is doing ok.

We’ll take the dog for a morning walk on a nearby beach later and then I have some reading to do online for my monthly meeting on Wednesday.

What a frightening experience Greyduster with the out of control dog. Thank goodness you had your stick. I hope you and all with worries or illness have a good day.

merlotgran Sun 07-Sept-25 08:04:15

Good morning all from a sunny south coast at the moment but the forecast is cloudy.
I have to go to the allotment shop to hand in the order for next year’s seed potatoes. They are only open between 10 and 11 every Sunday and today is the closing date for orders! Thank goodness I finally seem to have shaken of the virus.
I’ll spend the rest of the day gardening and pulling out bindweed which is reappearing after all the rain. 😡
Hope everyone has a pleasant Sunday.

luluaugust Sun 07-Sept-25 08:04:20

Good morning from a sunny Norfolk. Looking forward to lunch out and lots of reading.
Greyduster glad you are ok
Best wishes
