Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but dry start here in Brackley this morning.
Yesterday , when I went into the bakery cafe in Bicester and had a Breakfast Bap , the staff said how much weight I have lost since my last visit to the cafe.
Today , housework and laundry this morning , before I watch the final stage of the Tour of Spain on TV .
Health OK ,
Take Care,
Mick

Enjoy the last embers of La Vuelta Mick, I believe it was northern Spain this year which I haven’t visited apart from catching ferries!

Well Ludlow was lovely (you knew that FGT 😘) the weather not so…☔️! Luckily I was under cover watching a demo of Indian cooking when it bucketed down!

So sad to read of so many with various troubles in their lives, I won’t list because anyone not mentioned will think I didn’t read or care which I know isn’t true on this lovely thread - we’re all rooting for everyone, all the time 👏

I have 4 hours of free electricity this morning (silly suppliers bribing me to lower usage during the week not realising I adore a challenge 🤨) and will pop to see Dad later who has a birthday he pretends to ignore…until I do too😂

A peaceful Sunday all x

Good morning from s somerset, the temperature dived last night and it feels chilly. I have now pressed the buttons to switch all the digital thermometers on, there are five.

Seeds are sorted and a list made of new seeds which I`ll order around new year and at last my dining table is empty, apart from the cheery yellow cloth

I had a panic about the gansey I am knitting, my ds is 6`2 and the length to underarm does not look long enough, so I frogged 25 rows of pattern, which starts underarm up and am adding another 3". I have overall length from ds but have no idea how much is added to length via the underarm gusset and how much ease there is underarm. I think this new length will be better. I am aiming for 21" underarm now. 66,000 stitches from hem to underarm grin

Obviously I am doing a lot more sitting and watching of youtube, Heartland with Anthony Hopkins last night.

Nothing much doing today, might just check my car tyres at home, I have an electric pump. I have a trip to make tomorrow

Have a good day

Good morning from an as yet dry Bristol. It won’t last.
Like pant, please remember that I do root for all of you even if you’re not specifically mentioned.
I had a very busy day yesterday. At “sparrow fart”, I went to Waitrose. It was surprisingly busy, then decided I was going to take the bus home. I know it’s only two stops but I still have a longish walk from my stop…
I made myself some “root” soup and got the fruit boiled for my fruit cake. Then it was time to go to church to serve coffee.
Very slow start but, goodness, there were 32 people attending in the end. There was a bit of a scramble to move tables and chairs along to make space. Very few don’t stay to the end. One new lady came very late, but I think we made her so welcome that she may come again! A win.
Home for my soup lunch, a much needed nap,t hen it was time to bake. I finished the fruit cake, made a lemon and poppyseed cake and some biscuits - plain recipe but I add cranberry powder which turns them fluorescent pink and makes them pleasantly slightly sour.
I sat for the rest of the day!
Today, I have had a summons to lunch with my upstairs neighbour’s friend. She is pleasant enough, but has my neighbour in thrall, summons her for any transport she needs. She is very well off living in the “Mayfair” of Bristol and could have taxis whenever she wants. I find that infuriating!
A peaceful and blessed Sunday to all. May the sun ☀️ shine on all of you.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. I’ve no idea what the weather is doing but it’s dark and I don’t hear any wind or rain.

Sorrento was gloriously sunny, the heat felt so good, it was a tonic. We took a train to Naples to visit the Museum of Archaeology which was the highlight of the holiday for DH but although we spent most of the day there he hasn’t had his fill so is daydreaming about a weekend trip.

I will try to catch up with everyone’s news today meanwhile I’m sending my best wishes to all for a good day.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It is good to be back in the mother ship! The cats were delighted to see us and it is good to be home to a neat and tidy house. We always leave the house spick and span before going away on holiday.

Just a couple of hours after getting home I went to the Local History Society talk - the first of the new season. It was about the history of the village church which dates back to Saxon times. It was good to catch up with old friends too,

I popped over to see my neighbour later to thank her for feeding the cats. I ended up staying for over an hour. She wanted a chat.

OH is going to a Study Day on making candles from beeswax. He has quite a lot of wax from his hives and is keen to learn about using it. While he is out I have admin to catch up on as well as laundry.

Have a good and peaceful Sunday.

Good Morning from Durham. It’s barely light, I’ve had one of those nights where I don’t bother to go to bed, just not tired - happens 2/3 times a month.
After a busy day yesterday, I’m hoping for a quiet, empty today. My wrist is aching, but I’m sure I haven’t knocked it - just a minor niggle.
Mick as you seem so concerned about your weight, should you ask to speak to a dietician? My friend has been told to eat lots of calorie laden dairy, with a statin prescribed, to counteract the cholesterol.

I, too, am rooting for our GN’s feeling below par, for whatever reason.

Best wishes to all. X

Grammaretto Sun 14-Sept-25 06:22:14

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's 11° but quiet.

There were a surprising number of visitors to the Open Doors. I was at the old hearse house, renovated and now housing a historical display but is mostly closed.

My friend came for tea and a good catch up. Her DS is away camping for his Duke of Edinburgh award. He told her he was going to Dunkirk. She checked and it was actually Dunkeld but who knows! 🤣

I watched the last night of the Proms and knitted. Today pottery, a walk, cinema this evening. Another friend for tea.

Thinking of those with struggles especially Marydoll today..

Good morning from Crete. It is an early one from me as we are two hours ahead of English time here. Last night we had a lovely meal by the sea watching the sunset. Our tummy’s don’t really feel comfortable with the food here tho and both had a restless night. I think breakfast will be fruit and something light and then a day of not really doing a lot. Our hotel is very high tech and quite baffling at times as everthing has to be operated via a control panel even drawing the curtains! I think we prefer more traditional. 😂 The village we are staying in however is very traditional and it is good to sit by the harbour watching the locals. Lots of tavernas and little shops to browse in.

On catching up with yesterday’s thread I am sad to hear of those struggling. I too am rooting for everyone and send strength and love to you all.

Good morning Mick and everyone from a brightening morning in Cheshire. It's rained in the night, but the sky is clear at the moment. I have awakened to my sound box playing bird song. It's supposed to help with tinnitus. It's very pleasant.

My DGS who stayed over to help me with jobs, was watching a boxing match in the night, so I'm not expecting him to surface much before lunchtime. Yesterday he cut back a woody rose and removed a dead honeysuckle which had been ailing for some time. I now need a fast growing climber to plant in it's place.

My thoughts and prayers for all poorly GNs who are struggling at the moment. flowers

RosesandLilac Sun 14-Sept-25 07:03:11

Good morning, there’s a pink tinge to the sky westwards of my spot on the hillside in south Glos, clear blue to the east. Heavy rain forecast from mid morning 🙄
So many troubles for the Good Morningsters at the moment, hugs freely given if you need one 🤗🤗
Out early dog walk plans got off to slow start yesterday, within 50 yards of leaving the car gunshots started and poor bigger dog just froze then bolted back to the car, luckily she was on the lead. So we drove two miles to another village and exactly the same thing happened 🤬 Coming from a kill shelter she’s terrified of gunshot, thunder etc. DH then drove back to our village and I managed to persuade her to do a familiar walk, along the bridleway and up back across the fields.
It’s horrible seeing her so upset, we’ve tried everything we and the vet can but to no avail. When there’s thunder she has a bed under my craft table in the little bedroom, I put down the blind and put the radio on. It’s the only place where she will go.
I did some drawing and watercolour pencil work, I’m rather pleased with my efforts!
The washing dried nicely yesterday so I have some ironing to do then more arty stuff I think!
I do hope today is peaceful for you 🌹

Greyduster Sun 14-Sept-25 07:04:05

Good morning Michael and all GNs. Dry here in South Yorkshire at the moment but set to be very wet later. More staring at paint samples yesterday drove me up the wall but I think we are just about there, but no doubt when DD comes over this afternoon, I will have her take on it. We are going out to lunch today so I shall ask SiL to take down two lots of curtains and the lampshade in the bedroom for me before they go home.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good Morning fr MS. Sunny & 32c - the zinnias & gladioli are thriving, & I'm excited to see a few teeny limes starting to grow. This afternoon we have American football 🏈to watch on telly. I hope today is as kind as possible to all!

Susan56 Sun 14-Sept-25 07:12:17

Good morning from Shropshire.Dry at the moment but rain forecast for most of the day.

DD collected the children before lunch yesterday as H wasn’t feeling too well. After clearing all the Lego and crafts away and cleaning the floors I had a quiet afternoon reading napping.DH made an apple pie then joined in with the nap.

Today a quiet day after a busy and emotional week.We have something on every day this week so need to recharge our batteries.

Thinking of all with mountains to climb.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Ashcombe Sun 14-Sept-25 07:14:30

Good morning from a dull looking Torbay, but it is dry and calm.

The coffee morning was well attended and I enjoyed catching up with some of my church friends as well as seeing some other local people. A bonus was winning a raffle prize: a bottle of wine! The downside was the squally shower which came as I walked home, but luckily it’s not far and mostly tree covered.

Watching last night of the Proms led to a later bedtime, hence my later appearance on here.

Wishing everyone a blessed Sunday. 🦩💐✝️🥰🦩

madeleine45 Sun 14-Sept-25 07:15:17

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a dark still chilly morning in North Yorkshire. I can just about make out the tree as a very dark silhouette against the dark sky but that is all. I am hoping that todays post will get to you ok.

Yesterday was up very early, and sent in quite a long post about my lovely day on friday and the flipping thing again disappeared into the ether! I was really annoyed because it totally vanished, no draft or any means of getting it back. By this time I had to go out to the market etc ., and so ended up not getting back on to my annoyance.

In particular, as you had all been kind enough to read all the tales of woe , this was a very positive one so I will just give the jist of it now. As I told you all the other day this Heritage free offer was on, so I wanted to go to Beningborough Hall, an NT place with a lovely garden. Problem being that physically I was having an awful day and if they could not let me have a scooter, there was no point in going. However , they didnt open until 10am, and if I waited until then I would have wasted the time to travel there. So decided at the worst , if no buggy I could go on into York , and that would not be a waste of time and fuel. I left messages on the phone and on email regarding this , wasnt even up to standing to do a sandwich, but dashed off to Tesco for my meal deal, put coffee making stuff in car and off I went. Had left them my phone number, and the phone went as I was travelling . Pulled into a layby and rang them back and hurray , I had a buggy saved for me, and no rush. So busy roads etc, but got there and parked in disabled bay. Then made some coffee, while I got myself organised for the weather. It had already shown me on the way down that it was going to be very changeable, with short but heavy showers , and then needing sunglasses for the glare the next minute. So collected sunglasses, mac, etc etc, and went to the entrance, where the lady duly went through the signing in and explaining chat and then off I went. Well I do urge you to go if you are anywhere near.

The gardens were lovely. Last year Andy Sturgeon, planned out a mediterranian garden ,so it has only had that one year, but my it was lovely. Of course, contrary to all the other areas the drought suited it fine and it looks quite well established and with lots of colour. Really worth seeing. The lovely long herbaceous borders were also great with that opportunity , which in our small gardens we dont get, to repeat planting in large blocks and some wonderful dahlias and all sorts of wonderful plants to see and enjoy. then there were the apple trees etc but one of the great fruiting trees was a big medlar, full of fruit, and then a very cleverly made pear arch full of delicious looking pears. So with the scooter I was able to go up down and around, and sheltered under a big tree and an arch when it threw it down with rain. I cant go in the front way to the house, because it is steps up to it, but they have a little back entrance, where you can leave the buggies (taking the keys with you) and they have a small lift, which let me go up to the first floor where there was a lovely woven wooden sculpture, and windows to look out over the grounds.

They also had a great thing called the audio chair. This bit was all about the wilderness garden, and so they had the chair, which had speakers fittend in and gave you two extracts from Jane Austin , and one was one of my favourite moments in Pride and Prejudice where Elizabeth Bennett is out in the "wilderness" garden with the appalling Lady Catherine. Such a great moment and I have loved reading that book since about the age of 9 and definitely modelled myself on her, and have always been determined (or bloody minded) to go my own way, and not do what other people thought I should do. Then to add to the joy of the day they had a pianist playing for a time , and the acoustics are great there so lovely to hear the music rising from below.

So a thoroughly wonderful day, despite the weather and the aches and creaks. It was nearly 5pm before I left and I had an easy run home, but somewhat shattered, and hobbled in to flop down with a cup of coffee, and ignore all the jobs awaiting my attention. So do please look around to see what you might have near you. If any of you live near or can visit Halifax area the lovely Shibden Hall , where they made the Gentleman Jack film , would be worth looking at.

Anyway I didnt go to see any other places yesterday, as I was recovering from all the exertions of the day before, I struggled to get going and only a shower and a very slow start let me get to the market etc, and even the promise of a big secondhand book sale at a church couldnt tempt me sadly. However, I got my fruit and veg and there was a christian aid stall with home made cakes and they wanted customers, so I passed on the news of where they were and about lovely home made cakes and pies as I went along, and was very pleased to see a gentleman I had mentioned it to, pass by and hold up a big cake to show me what he had bought. Got my treat of the week - The Yorkshire Post and went home.

Even then it was all good for me, as I slowly got things put away , but not much more done, as I spent most of the afternoon, watching between the racing at Doncaster, with the St Leger of course, and the womens rugby. If I was younger I would be playing! Then listening to radio 3, and sorting out a meal before of course being ensconced ready for the Last Night of the Proms.

I put the radio on as the sound is better on there and put the tv on mute, so I get to see it all but enjoy the better sound. Another great night of course and I enjoyed seeing Alison Balsom (think thats how she spells it) playing the trumpet, and it was fun to see Bill Bailey with the typewriter . I think of him as a renaissance man. Such a talented and erudite man, complete with such humour and fun, whether he is talking about birds or playing the organ. Of course, I was joining in all the singing , and remembering other times singing in choirs and being in concerts and in audiences over many years. I always think of Music as another language I have, like french or portuguese. It crosses boundaries and you can share with many others even if you have no shared spoken language. What a wonderful couple of days to enjoy, and to have as memories on dark days, to let me know that good times are still there , if I just hang on.

What joy music brings to my life, and if I cant manage to afford to go to concerts, or my back wont let me sit for ages, I can still listen to my cds, records, and the radio and move about here which does not disturb anyone else. I have a wonderful boxed set of the great Dinu Lipati piano recordings and I think that that will be coming out for a listen , and for a complete change the wonderful Ladysmith Black Mombasa, no doubt followed by some J S Bach, which is my everyday choice. And (so far!) they have not worked out a way to tax me for every note of music I listen to and sing myself!!! It is always there to take the bad taste of the news away too. I suppose I am lucky that art, music and reading , are ways that I can enjoy, no matter how all the prices go up on other things.

Hope you got your bacon bap Mick and had a dry trip into Bicester. I picture you sat with your coffee watching the cycling. Karmalady you sound as busy as usual. I am just an ordinary knitter and usually just follow pattterns but am not up to reorganising patterns apart from just adding a few extra lines for sleeve lengths. I always knit the two sleeves together , so that whatever I do, good or bad, they will both match! GrandMattie , another busy lady. I hope you had a good meeting on the friday with the wretched Teflon man in the firing range. Stick to your guns and right is on your side, so hope all went well.

Aha! At last a ray or two of sunshine to cheer the morning. I have been invited to a friends for sunday lunch. A delight on several levels. Great to have the pleasure of home cooking, which however good the restaurant is, cant be beaten I think for sunday roast. Plus the company, and lots to chat about and of course talk of the Last Night of the Proms. Then I shall come home, with hopefully some renewed energy to listen to music whilst I attack some more of this dresser contents, with a bit more vigour, and hope to actually get it all finished this week and a photo taken of it so that I can get rid of it and look forward to getting many more books put in order and easy to look through. I think I should christen my flat and it could be the lived in library!!

I wish all GN's a great day, that the rain helps the gardens but doesnt catch you out and you all enjoy your day.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, blue sky at the moment but no doubt that will change. We had some torrential downpours yesterday with thunder and hailstones! DD1 came over in the afternoon and she & her DH moved an old freezer out of the garage onto my drive, ready for collection by the council later this week. The seven year olds were at the end of season presentations at their cricket club.
My son in law went up into the loft and got some more boxes down. One contained a lot of DD1s school work, which she took away, the other contained some glass cake stands and a Portmerion coffee service! The boxes had been untouched for 20 years!
Not sure what to do today, I have 4 hours of half price electricity at lunch time, so will wash the towels and tumble them dry. I changed the duvet from the summer weight to the autumn weight one. Had a real fight to put the cover on it!

Thinking of those dealing with illness or waiting for test results, and hope today brings some improvement or comfort.
Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and sunny. It feels much cooler and my windows have misted up. Peli how lovely to have limes in your garden. Rosesandlilac my last dog was terrified of thunder and fireworks. He was a sweetie.
Yesterday my early trip to Marks and Spencer was successful but I was disappointed with their range of vegetarian sandwiches for ds. Ds duly arrived and began sorting the couches ready to throw them out. Dsil appeared and the job was done really quickly. I fed them both and off they went. The rest of the day I was very lazy and read on my bed. I had a couple of naps too, to make up for the bad night's sleep.
Today the new couches will be delivered about lunchtime. My plan is to do some cooking this morning and get washing done. Dinner will probably be a chicken and leek pie. Have a good day all

Good morning from a sunny midlands.
Yesterday was dire. So down in the dumps. Heading out soon to spend the day with my youngest son. That’s going to cheer me up. Hugs to all suffering.

Good morning all and it’s very calm and still here at the moment. Wind warnings for later.,

Yesterday ds1 came and chopped down shrubs and bushes . He then put them into two huge sacks and took them to the tip., What a wonder he is 🌟. I clipped and swept and Dh came out with coffee and watched.

Late afternoon our new hedge trimmer arrived. Bad timing but ds1 fits us in when he can.

Today I’m meeting various members of the family in town to celebrate youngest dgd’s 10th birthday. She’s chosen crazy golf and cream tea. She had a pamper party and sleep over with her friends yesterday.
Goodness me! How the youngsters live these days.

We were happy with a few friends home after school, with jelly and ice cream and a game or two of pass the parcel and musical chairs. 😂.

I do hope everyone is feeling better and brighter today, take care and find some joy. 🦋.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry bright start to the day
Hope spending some time with your son today helps a bit whywhywhy 💐
A very Happy Birthday to your Dad pantglas 🎂
After quite a lazy day yesterday I’m hoping to get outside today for a bit of exercise if it stays dry. It might just be in the garden but there’s always lots to do. No catch up call with DS this morning as I think his partner’s family are staying, but I’ll message instead and check all ok.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Today we are off to an ancient pub for lunch
Very best wishes to all

Good morning Mick and everyone from rainy Carlisle.
I'm later today having managed to get some better sleep last night to make up for bad nights earlier in the week.

Yesterday I went for a longish walk through the park, very few of us about. The groundsmen were already up and about, noisily taking down a tree, I hope that was for good reasons. I went to the convenience store for a paper then realised that silly me had forgotten my purse. Well, it was the 13th!
I got home as a shower started and thus it was for the rest of the day. We had a thunderstorm after dinner with some vicious hail.
I spent the day with admin and catching up on various little jobs and had the usual long phone chat with my sister.

Today I'm hoping to go to the garden centre. Showers won't put me off but steady, heavy rain will. I have plants I want to get which means being outside. I'll treat myself to coffee while I'm there.
Whenever I'm at these garden centres, there's always more people having coffee/breakfast than there are out looking for plants....
If I have to stay home then I'll just have to get on with admin, I'm still collating info for the insurance company, it's a very tedious and annoying process and puts me in a bad mood.

madeleine you push through your difficulties and seem to have a great time. I'm still kicking my b*t*m and procrastinating!

Have a good Sunday, folks, if that's possible.

Morning from a still and dry S Hants, high winds and showers due later.
Yesterday was quiet, the washing dried indoors, MrJ ironed and I cleaned the kitchen and cloakroom, conscience salved, I read the paper.
Today I must ring my daughter, it’s unusual not to see her at the weekend, I may call in later instead.
Meat draw with Chase the Ace in our local, it will be very busy, CtA pot is now nearly £9,000.
I assume your wasp sting is better brook? Nasty.
I must wash my hair too, just caught sight of it!!
Blossoming and FGT plus any of you struggling 🌹
