Supper or just a drink?

Around this time of night, if at home, I fancy a little something, I usually go for a mug of Milo and a biscuit. Now and then a bowl of rice crispies, but DP often has cheese on toast which I tell him will give him nightmares, not that it does.
If I have home made cake in then I have a slice of that, but don’t like shop cakes.
I get bored with the same things, what do you go for?

I have a bag of Pom Bears at bedtime to stop my tummy growling in the night. Only 66 calories and just enough.

I can’t stop at one bag of Pom Bears😁
DP likes to pick out all the ones with missing limbs, there’s a lot.
Look, he’ll cry, a one legger! Sometimes it’s just a head or a head and one arm.
They used to be mainly whole, don’t know what’s going on in the factory now.

Watching my weight but also need to avoid biscuits or cake as it gives me heartburn during the night, so usually a handful of nuts at 9pm with an Ovaltine drink.

A bowl of corn flakes helps you sleep I find.

Nothing really..What is Milo?

I am baffled. What's Milo? Never heard of it. Always have supper here, more out of habit than hunger. Tea is 6pm. Usually have tea and toast (with vegemite)

Hearing the name ‘Milo’ brought back happy memories for me because my Nan used to give it to my as my bedtime drink when I holidayed with her as a child about 60 years ago! It was a lovely chocolatey drink made with milk, like drinking chocolate, but it had a distinctive flavour that I can’t describe. I didn’t know it was still available. I loved it.

Milo is an Australian thing I think? like Horlicks in UK?

Vintagegirl Thu 18-Sept-25 21:18:08

Bad sleeper here but often have cocoa make with neat cocoa powder and milk and a plain biscuit if feeling bit peckish near bedtime.

So, Milo is Ovaltine! Used to love that, haven’t had it for years. I am going to seek it out!

I don’t think it is because when I was a child, I had Milo when I was staying with my Nana, but Ovaltine when at home. They weren’t the same at all then. As I said, Milo has a bit of a distinctive flavour. Yes, it’s chocolatey but definitely not the same as Ovaltine or any other drinking chocolate, for that matter.

Nothing.
I grew up with having "supper".
Drink or otherwise or both.

Decided when married myself, I was not going to do it.
So glad I didnt.

Either a small bowl of chips or a few cookies for me. I can't resist a snack around 8 pm.

That's crisps or biscuits for you ;)

I'm with you there Oreo, sometimes we have a late lunch/,early tea (1meal) so by 9 o'clock yes I'm hungry but if I'm feeling rightous I'll just have an Options hot chocolate, if not then it's a small kitkat too.

Oreo Fri 19-Sept-25 09:31:17

You can buy Milo here in the UK, a chocolate and malt drink, it’s instant now but nice if you heat some milk so it’s half boiling water and half milk as a drink.Or just top up well with milk.
I honest don’t have shares in Nestles😄
It isn’t Ovaltine or Horlicks.

We don't have anything extra in the week but at the weekends we have a few choice chocolates. Recently bagged some Charbonnel and Walker milk and dark chocolates priced at £30 for a small box down to £7 as they were nearing their sell-by date. Heavenly - and they will never make it to the date either!

chrissie13 Fri 19-Sept-25 15:20:17

Am I the only one who likes a savoury snack, crisps, nuts or something similar?

hulahoop Fri 19-Sept-25 16:47:54

No I'm with you Chrissie need to stop it has I need to lose weight.

Never take a big bag of peanuts into your sitting room or you won’t make it out until you’ve put on half a stone and feel sick.

What about a tub of cashew nuts, is that ok?

Vintagegirl Fri 19-Sept-25 17:26:06

All nuts are high in calories....

Oreo Fri 19-Sept-25 18:01:16

Yes that’s quite ok Allira as they’re so horrible you won’t eat more than two😁
