Good morning all from one of our local hospitals- it is pouring with rainaccording to the WhatsApps I've had.

I am awaiting gall bladder surgery having been here since Saturday after I was admitted to our local infirmary in extreme pain on Friday.

Everyone is so lovely, despite being few in number, and I am getting so many WhatsApps etc from family that I am happy to stay. Though the food is dire.

The best bit was a visit from DD3 and her 3 children while DH was still here. The lovely nurses drew a curtain round us so noone noticed the illegal number of visitors.

Have the best day possible, everyone

Hello Kitty! I’m sorry to hear you’re in hospital. I had a similar thing a few years ago. Rushed to hospital in extreme pain. I had to be put on a drip to contain the infection before they could operate. That happened a few days later. In the meantime OH was living and working in Albania so had to rush back! Children and friends rallied round. I hope all goes well. If you have keyhole surgery you should be back to normal in a jiffy.

Good morning from a damp windless Suffolk. I’m off to my keep fit class shortly but I’ll need to leave early as I was asked to attend my monthly meeting earlier than planned.

We are away on holiday next week so I don’t want to miss 2 classes in a row.

I’ll be in the Teams meeting til late afternoon so a quiet evening is planned and DH will cook.

Hope all have the best day possible especially for those who may face difficulties.

Morning Mick, morning All from a wet corner of Somerset. Wind is picking up again.

Virtually no sleep last night, the planned chilli batch cooking is postponed as I’m not sure I’m safe with a knife. My eye has thankfully improved, less painful and vision more stable, it’s getting there. A hibernating day for me I think other than taking a pair of trousers to a friend, she’s an excellent seamstress and will shorten them for me.

Good luck with your appointment maryd.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently raining and 11°.
Marydoll I'll be keeping you in my thoughts today. Ashcombe well done to your dd. Luluaugust congratulations to your dgs on his engagement.
Yesterday was a quiet day after I dropped off the boys at school. Ds sent some photos. He's on holiday last week and this, and is in a caravan this week at St Andrews. I pottered about the house and generally tidied up. Then I did some Spanish. When I picked up the boys, dgs1's teacher and I had a chat about the library. There's a staff group who are looking to improve it further and want my advice. It's very kind of them and I'm happy to oblige, however it's their library first and foremost. Apparently the school have gained a certificate for reading and are hoping to go for the silver award this year. I'm chuffed that I've been part of that.
Today is a go slow. I had the most awful night's sleep, a combination of painful legs and bad dreams. I was up at three o'clock having a cuppa. I did doze off afterwards but I feel like a limp rag this morning. I'll do an hour in the school library this morning then make lentil soup for the freezer. Ds has offered me homemade lasagne for dinner and a piece of Dsils birthday cake which she made at the weekend. So that's me sorted! Have a good day all.

ginny Wed 17-Sept-25 08:03:37

Good morning all. I’ve been awake for some time but have been reading and have not looked outside. I assume it is dry as DH is getting ready to go to golf.
Well , I went to choir last eve after about 20 years of not singing and I enjoyed it soo much. The lady who leads it is as mad as a box of frogs, so much fun. I did feel quite emotional to find that my voice coped as I have missed it so much. I joined in with the altos, I used to be a 1st soprano but I may eventually swap back.
Bits and bobs this morning and craft club this afternoon. We have someone coming to lead the project so I can relax and enjoy.
Off to the theatre this evening with DDs 1& 3 to see a play called 2.22. DD2 has seen it and says we should enjoy it.
Wishing all a good day with special thoughts for GNs who are poorly or struggling in any way.

ginny Wed 17-Sept-25 08:04:13

Not 20, 10.

Oh goodness kitty. Hope you’re more comfortable and surgery will allow you home soon.

Grandmabatty Wed 17-Sept-25 08:04:42

Kittylester I've just seen that you are in hospital awaiting surgery. I'll be thinking of you.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's dull n dry.
Yesterday my electrician came at 7am sorted the CH, the kiln problem and closed my stuck bedroom windows. He was away by 8.
Then podiatrist and Lidl. The TV repair man appeared, fixed my tele and charged £20 the previous quote was £200.
A pal came for lunch and a blether but I was tired by the evening.

Today yarn group and my friend from the North is arriving to stay until the weekend.

Your day with the church curtain fiasco sounds incredible y funny
Marydoll I hope the appointment today goes well.

Ash you must be so proud. That's a lovely story.

I do enjoy reading all your doings. The ordinary as well as the extraordinary.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning all and it’s raining here in Essex.

We were so lucky with the weather yesterday. A warm, sunny day for our coach trip to Kent. A steaming adventure. Lunch and afternoon tea on the Orient Express type steam train.

In between with a wander around the lovely town and a drink outside an old pub . A wander into the beautiful church and a whizz in the museum . A perfect day with my ‘old’ pal .

The coach driver asked us ‘how long since you saw each other’ . ‘Not long, a couple of months’ we replied.
He thought we were long lost pals because we hadnt stopped talking the whole way there and back. We had prime seats sitting behind him. Poor man! 😬!

Today I have a glaucoma check up at the hospital. I’ll get the bus there and back. So much easier than driving and parking.

GG I hope the ‘something’ isn’t too difficult.🤞.
Rosesandlilac what a wonderful job you’re doing with the school garden. How lucky they are.👩‍🌾.

Take care all 🌼

Thoughts with Marydoll and * Kittylester*.

I think you’re doing the right thing by listening to your body when you need to take things easy, Susan56. It will pay off in the end as you’ll feel better for doing so. It worked for me!

Jaxjacky Wed 17-Sept-25 08:27:36

Just skim read, good luck kitty my friend had this done a couple of years ago, right as rain quite quickly.

Georgesgran Wed 17-Sept-25 08:35:33

Good Morning from a grey, windy Durham. At least it’s dry, so far.
Lovely catch up with friends yesterday, then I watched DGS2 unwrap his birthday gifts - he seemed well pleased. Poor DD2 had a fire alert in her hotel last night and was evacuated outside for a couple of hours!
It’s a proper empty today, so in preparation for my holiday, I intend to slip into Domestic Goddess mode and blitz the housework!

Thinking of those in the sickbay today, especially kitty and of course MD

Best wishes to all. X

I've just had a visit from the surgeon who was lovely and cheered me no end by telling me that my gall bladder is pretty ropey.

madeleine45 Wed 17-Sept-25 08:42:45

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a wet, grey morning in North Yorkshire. I am absolutely shattered this morning, and dont know what I will be able to do today after yesterdays hassle.

The lovely weather yesterday was totally wasted on me, and ended up costing me a fortune ! So the main point of the day was of course getting to the options. The usual struggle to get going and to be there for 10am meant that I had to try and hurry with things, and didnt have time to do a normal tidy up, but still got the car parked nearly opposite Specsavers and was there for quarter to ten. They were busy, so had to sit and wait for a bit, but then they got started. Because of the cataract ops they were very thorough and checked up on all sorts of things and checked the healing etc etc. It was a new option to me, she was very good and had just finished her degree and was of course qualified but did not have a lot of experience so she was also being mentored by the senior lady I had seen previously. Some people dont like to be looked after by a newcomer in whatever field, but I always say a much more positive attitude to take is that they are absolutely up to date with the latest new information and techniques, where your normal person may be very experience and have worked for 10 years at the job, but might not be as up to date. So with this way you get the best of both worlds as everything is checked out. So I was quite happy to have this young lady look after me. Not quite as happy with the usual painful leaning in to the wretched machines. They do a good job, but it is very painful for me to sit in the right position and already had a bad back before I started. So it all took quite a long time, and the upshot was that I need quite different glasses for reading and driving. I have very good distance vision and she said I am totally fine to drive but said that I might find the sunglasses helpful against glare etc . The reading glasses that I now need after the operations are quite different of course. So I had the offer of buy one get one free for the reading glasses so I have chosen to have a pair of sunglasses to my prescription in the hopes of being able to sit outside and read on sunny days. Dont need them today!!

So thankfully, but rather stiffly paid for the glasses, which should be ready to collect in a week, and hobbled out with the plans already forming of what I needed to do next, so a well deserved coffee at Nero's which is just along from my bank, where I needed to check something out. Then making sure that I dropped my prescription off, and as it was such a nice sunny day home asap with the hopes that I could at least get a bit done in the garden and the bulbs planted up etc .

Huh! One step forward three steps back! As I walked up to the car, which was in a row of parking spaces and not a wide disabled space, I saw my nearside tyre was totally flat. These days there is no way I could change a tyre myself and even if I had been doing it still no chance with my back as it was. Trying to think what to do, knew if I drove on it , it would wreck the tyre, but in a timed zone etc. That did feel like the last straw for the day, but then thought I would manage to walk down to Upfront, and at least could get some advice about best garage etc etc. Was more painful having to walk there and rest a couple of times against the wall, but finally made it. I started to explain the situation, and that I have a proper spare tyre but couldnt do it myself etc and a very kind man called Phil , unbidden offered to change it for me. He was just doing something and so I was very grateful to have time for a coffee and to sit down and then we went back to the car. It was quite tight in the space but there was just enough room for him to sort it. It did prove that it was worthwhile my having a proper tyre in the boot, but of course it was everything being shoved out of the way and all the usual hassle. I was standing around and watching him , getting bits from the car etc, but still standing which was very painful. Anyway he got all the nuts off etc but then it just didnt want to come off. However with a lot of effort it was all done. So by this time it was nearly midday and so my next job was to get to a garage to get the puncture done. I could see a big screw in the tyre, so that was hopeful that it could be mended. But first was in desperate need of a coffee, and wanted to ring a friend who would know the best garage to go to round here, who would not charge me the earth, No luck there , so went to first garage who said they had no space until pm today, on to local halfords, where the man came to look at it, he immediately said, ah you can see there, and the tyre is no good. So a very expensive day, and nothing done that I had wanted to do. He hadnt got the tyre in stock so now I am waiting for a phone call to say it is in, to take the car for them to sort out. So of course, all plans are off, and he will ring me straight away but when depends on delivery. So my plans to either go to see Downton Abbey on the matinee or go swimming are all up in the air. Not been my best day ever.

I just seem to be struggling to get things on an even keel at the moment and every step forward ends up with two backwards. I had a horrible night, not surprisingly my back was awful and I got very little sleep. Decided at 3am , when I was wide awake to put some washing in the machine so that I could at least get that on the line early this morning. Looking out at the rain coming down, the washing is still in the machine!! Oh well, at least it happened yesterday and fingers crossed, will be sorted so that I can still go to stokesly show on saturday. Something cheering to focus on. So now it is a very slow sorting out of just everyday housework stuff, but am not even attempting to look at the last of the wretched dresser job. I will probably look through some paperwork and have the pleasure of ripping some stuff up, which will relieve my feelings , from my lost drying day and the attack on my bank balance!!

Hope the rain eases off when you are in Bicester Mick but at least it will be helping with the gardens and resevoirs. So glad you had a lovely if tiring day out GrandMattie. You deserved it after all your battling with the Teflon kid. Hope you can find time to have a rest and think back to your day out and well done with the recipe book too. Karmalady, sorry to see you have had disappearing posts too and hope that you are feeling a little better today. Marydoll you will be off to your appointment and I hope a convenient parking space miraculously appears just where you need it and that all goes well with the appointment, and you can come home and have a rest. I seemed to have missed your posts lately, possibly as I was early and then had to go out. So was glad to see your message today and wish you all the best. sallyforth how good that you have the decent builder to help you. Hope all goes well with it and enjoy a cosy day keeping warm, dont think any of us are going to need sunglasses today.

So speaking of a cosy day, I am now going to get some coffee on the go, reluctantly accept that I need a warmer jumper on, and try and get a few jobs done here whilst waiting for the phone call, which will no doubt come while I am in the bathroom or throwing rubbish out to the dustbin! So I think it is a day that we all need to be kind to ourselves and not expect too much to be done. Hope problems can be solved and some pleasure got from the day, even if it is only a lovely cup of coffee.

Look in the bright side, you will lose a lb or two depending on its weight 👍🤩

Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast. I really enjoyed yesterday, my first music club meeting after the summer. I sang four songs, two of which were new to me and was in charge ‘on the desk’. Great to see everyone although one guitarist flounced out like a prima donna (excuse me that’s my department 😁) because one guitarist in the quartet had the wrong music. Such childish behaviour from a grown man…

My DS was at home to greet me and moved furniture in the very cluttered spare room for the decorator as well as doing a few other jobs.
We had a takeaway and watched Gogglebox for a giggle.

I’m back for the first time tonight at a little opera company I left a few years ago and one of my friends who left at the same time is joining me. Again, it will be lovely to see old friends. Frankly it’s more to see my friends than the music!

Thoughts to kittylester and all🌺
