Good Morning Wednesday 17th September 2025

Good morning from a dry Bristol. Wall-to-wall rain today.
The visit to London went well. We picked up an early coach not far from here rather than a flixbus in town. The journey seemed to take for ever, due to traffic. There’s a bus strike/go slow in Bristol. Once at Victoria, tube to embankment.
We had our lunch in the garden there, then went on to the Sainsbury wing . I5 was remarkably warm, about 5 degrees higher than here.
The. Exhibition was from a Dutch collector who had some 15,000 impressionist paintings, mostly Dutch artists but several Seurat who inspired the pointillist movement there. Unfortunately, I found them difficult because of my eyesight. I have trouble focussing, so with the blurred pictures I kept on unconsciously trying to focus and gave myself a headache. It was a well curated and displayed exhibition though. My friend really enjoyed it.
We then went to a small, free Millet exhibition with the famous “Angelus” as starting point. I loved the charcoal sketches.
We had coffee in a little Palestinian cafe - so much nicer than you Starbucks. I saw (and bought) a beautiful vegetarian recipe book there for SiL’s Christmas present. He loves that sort of thing, and being veggie is a great bonus!
The journey home was a lot easier as there were far, far fewer stops to collect passengers. Home by 9. I was exhausted and soon went to bed.
Today is pretty busy again. Morning prayers then FAB cafe. Fortunately, I have already baked. Hurried lunch, then I’m off back for the Ladies’ guild where I have been asked to serve tea. I absolutely can’t say no as every member of the committee is over 80 and it’s not fair that a “youngster” like me can just sit around and be served…. Phew!

Good morning from a dark and rainy Black Country, where it was gloriously sunny yesterday. I knew I should have cut the lawn yesterday! Not usually up this early, but decided to rather than toss and turn and wake MrJ up.

Walking group walk yesterday starting from a pub car park, then a coffee in said pub afterwards. I seem to have a pain in the top of my left leg, and a friend on the walk suggested it may be Sciatica. Had it once 50 years ago when pregnant. Hopefully it seems to be easing off.

Meeting a friend this morning in town for coffee and to book a coach trip to Gloucester for October.

Sounds like a very busy but interesting day gM

Good Morning fr MS. 31c & sunny - it's perfect drying weather for this mornings' load of laundry. We have a man coming to give a quote in early afternoon, & then we'll do a fast trip to pick up some wood ordered from the lumber yard & stop for petrol - exciting Wednesday plans, lol.

Good morning from a damp and breezy Torbay.

I had a good chat with DD2 yesterday who rang early. We are both morning people so that time of day suits us. She has received a congratulatory letter from the LEA because the SATS results for the last Y6 show great improvement on previous years. This was due in part to interventions with struggling pupils who were assigned an individual mentor from the staff who worked with each pupil regularly to improve their self esteem alongside their numeracy and literacy skills. Attendance had also improved as had implementation of their safeguarding policy. One proud mama here!!

Good morning, it’s wet here too in south Glos.
I had a very enjoyable couple of hours volunteering yesterday, tackling an unkempt border which has two beautiful hibiscus shrubs, roses and yards of bindweed 🙄 It was pleasantly warm and I really enjoyed it.
The washing dried nicely on the line and DH mowed the lawns so a satisfying sort of day.
I will have coffee at the village cafe during the dogs walk this morning, I haven’t been for a while, then it’s housework and the usual things.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Yesterday ended up being a very quiet day.I felt exhausted for some reason so no exercise class and no shopping.I will go to M and S to get mum’s gifts on the way to take DGD to dance later.I also have a phone appointment with the GP this afternoon.

Good morning from a showery Glasgow, where it is 11°C.

You must be exhausted, GM, after such a busy day yesterday,

Yesterday did not turn out as planned, I got to Silverburn, two hours latter than I intended and felt rotten, so only lasted an hour. I never made it to Tesco.

As I was getting ready to go out, the landline rang. It was the parishioner, who was liaising with the curtain fitter, regarding the new stage curtains.
She was frantic, the curtains, which were supposed to have been delivered to the presbytery, were nowhere to be found.
I reluctantly phoned the parish priest, who insisted they were in the presbytery.
The lady went back to ask the curate to look, he was not happy, as Mass was going to be late.
I said I would come down, after I had taken my medication, I wasn't intending to rush. My new strategy.

I got to the parish hall, to find an unhappy fitter, there were still, no curtains and the baton for curtain rail had been put in the wrong place!
There were also two painters sanding a temporary altar in the middle of the floor. We didn't know they were coming.
I reluctantly phoned the P,P to update him.
Who gave the wrong measurements for the baton, snapped the P.P.^
I responded with, You did!.
Silence followed.

I was fuming.
I did sort everything and am now best friends with the curtain fitter, painters and have rekindled my relationship with the joiner, who happens to be a former pupil.

Then I had to go a update the bad tempered curate, who hadn't a clue how to deal with the mess.
He had advised me on Saturday that he was more than capable of running the Paish and the P.P. was patronising him, by asking me to keep an eye on things.
Yesterday, dear reader he ate his words and actually thanked me. 🤣

Off I toddled to Silverburn to M&S food hall, then spotted the 70% off sale sign. The shelves were filled with the dregs of the sale.
However, I picked up an unusual vase, perfect for the conservatory. The queue was long and slow ( with elderly ladies discussing their plans for the day with the patient assistants), and I began to feel rather unwell,
At that moment I could feel my phone vibrating. It was DH, who only phones when either the house is on fire or someone has died.
However, the reception was poor and I couldn't hear a word.
Once outside, I phoned him, I think the hospital are trying to get a hold of you, they will call back at 2pm
My stomach began to churn with anxiety.
The outcome, I have a hospital consultation at 9.20am this morning in my local hospital, which is only 15 minutes away.
I knew I was on the two week pathway, but the two day pathway, is service indeed!

Last night, I was wandering about in my underwear, I heard the doorbell ring. I assumed it was my neighbour, but got the fright of my life, when a little figure, dressed all in black, appeared in the dark landing at my side.
It was my beloved Dollie.😍
Coming downstairs, I found DIS and SIL sitting there. DS rarely visits and of course,because I am a catastrophiser, I assumed the worst.
DIL had picked up Dollie from dancing ( hence the black lycra) and asked DS if he wanted to come with her to drop off some books for Babydoll.
This was rather unusual, because DIL usually pops in after school.
I think they were checking up on me, not convinced that all is well.

I need to get a move on, if we leave early enough, we may get a parking space at the hospital.

Good morning everyone from a grey, wet and mild mid Essex. I don’t think it’s going to improve much during the day either, but the garden still needs the rain.
Had my usual walk yesterday and met up with my dog walking friends. Then walked to collect my meds from the pharmacy. Sorted out the underfloor heating in the bathroom so warm feet this morning!
I’m trying a “chair yoga” class this morning, should be interesting. I have done yoga before but the normal type and I’m looking forward to seeing how it works not using the floor!

Your day in London sounds interesting grandmattie, a shame you had problems focusing on the paintings.

Good morning Mick and everyone from a dark morning in Cheshire where it's raining heavily. No incentive to get up and busy!

Yesterday I was dealing with a problem with new French doors fitted in the extension and my builder spoke to the company for me. They said someone would call him back but they didn't. I'll give them today and then call again. The builder has said he will come and meet their representative for me. So kind. The builder and decorator finished yesterday and the room looks lovely, so it's disappointing to have badly fitted doors.

I won't be venturing out today unless the weather improves as I had a food delivery last night. I shall hibernate with my crochet and watch a serial on Netflix.

Good morning everyone from a still dark and wet Northampton - it would rain when I have a hairdressing appointment this morning!

Yesterday was also a lovely drying day here and I got two or three loads washed and dried on the line. The gas engineer came, inspected the system, did a test run, and then congratulated me on changing the batteries in the thermostat which seem to have solved the problem.
Had a quiet afternoon reading and then cooked a ham and pea soup for dinner.

An early dinner for me today, then DS-in-law is picking me up for our ladies wine evening; I shall stay at DD's overnight.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very wet South Yorkshire. This is in for the day. Yesterday I drove to the next village which has our nearest post office and sent a third birthday card to my G.G. nephew. Amazing to see him now when three years ago he was so tiny that none of us thought he would survive. I planted a couple of bowls of winter pansies in the afternoon and cleared away a lot of dead plants.
This morning I will make a batch of Anzac biscuits for GS to take with him when he goes off to uni on Friday. His favourite. Writers group at the library this afternoon. I hope the rain lets up a bit.

Morning all from a damp and dreary West Oxfordshire.

I visited friends yesterday and took a batch of chocolate muffins. They went down well. One of my old friends is embarrassingly rude to her husband. He answers back a bit but she is often oblivious and carries on regardless while the rest of us sit looking at the floor - actually not quite looking at the floor but trying to smooth things over…

Today is the U3A lunch club. Should be good.

It is WI tonight. Someone is coming along to teach us drumming! The competition is a musical instrument. I will take along a sort of a rattle/mini drum which OH bought when he was Nigeria.

I love the National Gallery GM, although I marginally prefer the NPGallery round the corner. I can recommend the St Martin’s in the Field Cafe for coffee or lunch.

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark, rainy Carlisle. That's it for the day I believe.
It's a good job I got out in the garden yesterday morning when conditions were quite pleasant. I put in my two shrubs, not a simple job as I had to dig out the clayey soil and transport good soil from elsewhere. Next job will be to instal the remaining raised bed and plant it up then that difficult corner just might be sorted.
I spent the rest of the day looking through my bedroom cupboards and drawers. I really must make an effort to wear other items as well as the old favourites I keep putting on. Nothing so far has gone in the charity bag!
I read the paper and unwisely read the book reviews and promptly ordered one in spite of previous memo to self not to buy any more this year, I have a back log.
I have a weakness for buying books, sweaters, t-shirts and plants. Apart from the plants, I have enough of the others to last until my centenary.

Good luck today Marydoll, I hope the docs can improve life for you. And, not so seriously, they need to keep you fit enough so you can stop that church of yours and its functionaries collapsing into chaos!

Good morning all from one of our local hospitals- it is pouring with rainaccording to the WhatsApps I've had.

I am awaiting gall bladder surgery having been here since Saturday after I was admitted to our local infirmary in extreme pain on Friday.

Everyone is so lovely, despite being few in number, and I am getting so many WhatsApps etc from family that I am happy to stay. Though the food is dire.

The best bit was a visit from DD3 and her 3 children while DH was still here. The lovely nurses drew a curtain round us so noone noticed the illegal number of visitors.
