Good morning Mick and all GN's on a greyish morning, with a slight breeze but fingers crossed a look of possible sun coming out. But it is a lovely day whatever! I didnt have a much longer sleep , but oh it was a better sleep and everything seems so much better and I feel up to facing whatever the day brings. Still the usual aches and pains, but moving a bit better, I am showered with hair washed and washing in churning around in the background. All by 7.30am. This is more like me, not taking until 10am to be even dressed etc.
Yesterday was enough to try the patience of a saint (have never been that anyway!) I was in such a lot of pain, it took me ages to get up and get going. I rang the garage and he said he had ordered a tyre for me, but they didnt have one in so he would ring when it arrived and I could take the car down to be sorted. Everywhere was in total disarray from the day before and actually , although I was clock watching and longing for him to ring, it did allow me to plod slowly through some housework and some papers etc. I had a very annoying phone call, where firstly the blasted automatic robot stupid thing kept offering me 3 options but no hold on for a human. Of course the thing I needed to speak about was not one of the three options. Extremely annoying, whatever I tried to do, and in the end had to put the phone down, count to 10 and then ring the complaints department as the only number showing where I might get to speak to someone. Then I was asked various security questions, which I understand the need for , but got a blank about something and obviously gave the wrong answer. One of my security questions has a very unusual answer, and so the person said that they were sure that I was who I said I was but unfortunatly I had given a wrong one and so they couldnt deal with it. Grr Grr. Had to leave it as was due to be somewhere, so another load of time wasted. But it has reminded me to go through various things and check my passwords etc., as this was something I havent used for a very long time, and whilst am up to date with those I use and change regularly this one hasnt been updated for a very long time.
Was getting a bit fidgety, as I had planned to either go to see Downton Abbey in ~Thirsk or go to the disabled swimming, to try and iron out a few wrinkles and be able to stand upright in the water. However still no car done so stuck. Then he rang to say tyre arrived and he could fit me in at 3pm. So that meant going to neither but never mind, was only too pleased to get the car sorted. So took the car down and checked in with the pleasant young man, who added to his good efforts on my behalf, by rescuing my good knitted jacket which had managed to catch in the zip end of my handbag. I had had to carefully wriggle out of the jacket and carry it bunched up with the bag, as I didnt want to break the thread but needed three hands to be able to sort it out. Another tick for the Halfords man, between us we managed to sort it without breaking the thread. So gave him the keys, and hobbled round to cafe Nero, where I was able to have some coffee and look through my post which had just arrived as I set out for the garage. Time went on and then he rang to say it was ready . The most painful bit then was £180 to pay for it. Not been my week has it between that and the glasses!!
Anyway it was too late to go to anything, but a friend had rung and asked if I would take her place at a charity quiz night as she couldnt go. I have done gardening quiz's both taking part and making up the questions, and follow things like university challenge and mastermind, but not done this sort , so said dont know if I will be any good at it, certainly not if it is stuff like celebrities and pop music, but she said it was varied. Decided that I would go and so leaving the shambles behind off I went. I only knew my friends mum, in the group, but we were a pleasant group of women and we did quite well in the quiz. Geog, His, and general knowledge were my cup of tea as they say, and I did quite well in a sort of odd information round, particularly pleasing my group by knowing that a spurtle or spirtle is the stick you stir porridge with! We didnt win any prizes, but it had been a good evening, with pleasant company, got my brain working in other directions than doctors and car disasters, and think that actually, it did let me come back in a better frame of mind, and just had some juice and my tablets and went to bed. Didnt get off to sleep quickly - not expecting miracles - but nevertheless had a better night.
So here I am and the day is brightening, hopefully will be able to get the washing out. Dont know what is on at the meeting today, need to find out. I have so much to catch up on, and want to get things ready for going to Stokesley show on saturday, check out the picnic box etc, finally get the casserole finished which is still sat in the fridge, but cant remember if it is the yoga lady today. That gives me such a help, somehow although I have done yoga for years, I find someone else reminds you of things you havent done for ages, or has a good idea of how you can get round positions that you cant do any more. Will have to ring a friend and check. Anyway apart from having had to pay out £400 in two days, cringe cringe, I am happy and grateful for a better day. I hope that you all are starting a good day too.
Mick , hope you get to meet lots of friends. Here bus passes are only valid after 9.30am , but you can go earlier if you have a hospital appointment. Of course, especially up the dales, you need to set off quite early if you need to get to Middlesborough or somewhere, so that is why that is allowed, which makes sense. GrandMattie, the cranberry marmalade sounds nice, never tried that. Well done keeping up the pressure on the Teflon kid. (do you remember the advert for the Milky Bar Kid? You could imagine teflon kid with a saucepan on his head, which you could beat a tattoo on with a wooden spoon!) Ginny, well done not to have been caught by the wretched scammers. It is so horrible that we now have to be distrusting of any phone calls these days. I am sorry for people like the receptionists from the dentist , who have to ring you and get a very curt "yes, who are you" from me if I am not expecting their call. Kittylester, do hope that you are feeling a bit better, now that the operation is behind you. I hadnt seen your post about going in for this. I am sure you will be much better without the awful stones, having experienced a horrible episode of a gallstone and I was flying home at the time. Ugh! Horrible, so you will at least be relieved of the worry of such things happening again. Hope that you get home soon and can begin to recuperate. However well you are treated and looked after, getting into your own bed is a great relief isnt it? Susan56 I bet the man who had your husbands coat felt rather reluctant to return to his old one! Sounds like a scene from a Marx brothers film doesnt it? Hope you have a lovely day with your old friends.
In fact I wish everyone a pleasant day and hope that whatever their aims for the day, they manage to do at least some of them. Of for much needed coffee and see how the washer is progressing. Take care of yourselves and enjoy your day
