Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Let’s hope they do the job Grannmarie 🤞we’ve just been out for a tasty dinner, I had stone bass, MrJ a chicken schnitzel, both delicious.
He spread bags of manure over the garden today, I was out and about and had two long phone calls.
I’m tired, up at 5:30 to bagsy my Tesco delivery slot, mission accomplished an hour later.
FGT
I hope soop is comfortable and snug with her Mr s.

My test results are available in the NHS app and I can’t tell you how relieved and happy I am that my blood sodium is now 141, which is well within the normal range. I’ve been so frightened of doing the wrong thing and causing it to plummet again. TOYA ♥️

Naughtyneine Tue 04-Nov-25 21:44:55

Ah Blossoming that's wonderful news. I'm so happy for you. Xx

Jaxjacky Tue 04-Nov-25 21:46:01

Oh well done Blossoming I understand your relief - mine sits at about 130, it’s how I am, but can cause consternation.

GrandmaC47 Tue 04-Nov-25 22:07:25

Good news, Blossoming. Glad you had a better day, Fgt.

Grannmarie Tue 04-Nov-25 22:21:56

Thank you, FGT, thinking of you and Himself. 💕🙏
Beautiful creatures, Ladyleftfieldlover.
Thank you, Jaxjacky. Your anniversary dinner sounds delicious indeed.
Great news, Blossoming, you're coming on leaps and bounds!
Thinking of our dear Soops and all in the Quiet Corner.
Wishing everyone a peaceful evening and a good night's sleep. NNGB.

Excellent news blossoming. I’m still waiting for the results of my recent xray on my spine. They’re not on the NHS app so will have to chase the surgery for them!
Night night everyone, sleep well.

Grannmarie Tue 04-Nov-25 23:12:16

Hope you get word soon Redcar. 🤞

cornergran Tue 04-Nov-25 23:49:00

That’s excellent news blossoming. I’m more than pleased for you and that you’ve had a better day fgt. You must be worn out.

I don't see x-ray outcomes in the NHS app either Redcar. When I asked at the surgery I was told they appear on a different (nameless) system. This may of course just be a local glitch, it’s a right nuisance for sure. Hope you get your outcome very soon.

Your meal sounded wonderful jax, That was an early start , no wonder you’re tired.

Get well wishes go to granmarie and all poorly folk.

Time for sleep here. I’m meeting a friend tomorrow, it will be an early start. Night night everyone. .

Redcar Wed 05-Nov-25 13:24:45

That’s interesting cornergran, I did wonder if they didn’t post them on the app for some strange reason. I’ll ring the surgery tomorrow, they have a set time to ring for test results.
I’ve had a walk this morning, a long chat on the phone to a friend and carried on with pruning the very large rose bush. I can’t finish it as some of the stems are too thick for me to cut through. A job for one of my DDs or sons in law.
With luck I’ll try to prune a smaller rose bush or rake up some weeds, the garden bin will be emptied this Friday and it would be good to get more waste in it.

Hello everyone. The latest news on DH.

The good news is the nodes on the liver are not cancer and we are so very grateful for that. The bad news his liver is very damaged from having many attacks of hepatitis in the past. The concern is the blood platelets and the fact that he could bleed internally so very scary. He’s to be closely monitored and we have a list of symptoms to watch for.On the plus side he’s to start meds for the prostate and hoping they may help but, no surgery for prostate and hernia. Bit of a mixed bag and not sure how I feel.DH just goes along with it all he copes much better than me.

Anyway have a good afternoon thinking of you all x

Usedtobeblonde Wed 05-Nov-25 15:10:41

Not the best news Yia but not as bad as you feared.
It is positive that they can treat the prostate even without surgery, that is what our friend is having, and also that you know exactly what to look out for and report straight away.
The medics will do their very best for you.
A quiet day here, I cancelled going to see my friend ,I just don’t feel up to it today.
I think the winter blues are overtaking me although it is very mild here.
I hope all the other poorlies and their carers are coping ok, I miss Soop’s positivity and her kindness to all.

Grandmabatty Wed 05-Nov-25 15:29:22

yiayia mixed news right enough. Definitely good news about it not being cancer and hopefully his other conditions can be carefully monitored.
I've had a very lazy day after my stint in the school library. I felt under the weather and went for a lie down. My stomach has been playing up but matters have resolved themselves and I feel a bit better. I'm off to empty and load the dishwasher and make a chicken and mushroom curry. Enjoy the rest of the day.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-Nov-25 15:44:03

Yiayia mixed news, I do hope that your DH is comfortable, sounds like he is being very well looked after.

Jaxjacky Wed 05-Nov-25 16:32:19

Indeed mixed Yia very good news of no cancer, he’ll be monitored well to be treated accordingly, I understand your initial hesitancy.
Drizzly, dull day, so the buddlea didn’t get pruned down, I did sit at my daughter’s awaiting the gas man, who turned up a few minutes before she returned. Then dropped some advent calendars for charity via an M&S collection, MrJ is on dinner duty later.

Jaxjacky Wed 05-Nov-25 16:51:00

Sorry, had to stop.
utbb I think the dull days and darker evenings don't help at all, the inclination is to hibernate. Maybe choose your outings to be the ones you’d most enjoy with people who cheer you.
Hope you’re feeling much better now Grandmabatty

brook2704 Wed 05-Nov-25 17:19:19

Mixed news Yia but definitely right to focus on the positives, sending ❤️
Good to hear you’re feeling a bit better grandmabatty
It’s been wet all day here, I forgot my umbrella so got a bit wet walking from the gym into town. I soon dried off in my favourite cafe whilst enjoying a cappuccino. Then an expensive visit to the dentist but my teeth and mouth feel better now. I’m currently on the bus stuck in traffic on the way home, hopefully when I eventually get home DH will be like yours Jax and has started making the dinner
I too miss our dearest soop, uttb hope both Mr &Mrs Soop are doing ok ❤️

cornergran Wed 05-Nov-25 17:33:12

Mixed news yia, some excellent, some uncertain, it makes sense if your emotions are mixed too. Take it easy.

A different day to that expected for me. Headed off to travel to meet a friend for coffee and lunch. 40 minutes on I’d just made it to the park and ride when a message came telling me she couldn’t make it, a serious plumbing emergency to attend to. Back I trundled and have done very little with the unexpected time other than put a few things away and continue to dither about our living room. Do we replace the curtains and cushions or paint a wall and hope the existing curtains have more definition? It’s all perfectly inoffensive, just bland. Mr C would rather hang new curtains than paint the wall. As we’ve not been able to spot curtains we both like it’s all on hold until next year, my argument being when we get the Christmas bits out it will all look very different anyway. Logical procrastination rules . 😂.

Good to hear you sound a little better grandmab. No harm in resting

I’ve got a SAD lamps uttb. Bought on Mr C’s insistence (any port in a storm I think) I was initially very skeptical. I know now I do feel lighter if I’ve used it for several days. Psychosomatic? Maybe but if I feel brighter I’m not worried!

A quiet evening ahead here. Hope you can all relax and have a good evening and night.

RosieandherMaw Wed 05-Nov-25 17:36:32

I haven’t posted in the Kitchen for a long time but wanted to remember today and share that memory with somebody.
Eight years ago I had what I think of as my last “normal” day before DH’s final admission into hospital and death 5 days later.
At the time I wrote

“Done and dusted!
Down to London, DH had an MRI at the Royal Free (which was like the Marie Celeste - even spaces in the car park) and back again in time for lunch.
So much less stressful being driven door to door, so thank you DD and SIL for making it infinitely easier."

This was what I remember as our last “normal” day together, a quiet lunch, a relaxed and companionable Sunday afternoon and an early night.
Never take these moments for granted!

rosie a bittersweet day for you. flowers

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-Nov-25 18:33:22

Sending you a (((hug))) Maw 🌸

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 05-Nov-25 18:40:50

Hello kitchen people.

Hugs to all of you going through difficult times.

I had fun at the WI coffee morning. I was chatting to a 90-year old lady who is so elegant. Very smart jeans, beautifully made-up and absolutely on the ball. Another lady, late 70s left early to go to the gym,

After lunch I made a new cake recipe. Very spicy cupcakes (ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and mixed spice) topped with Brandy buttercream. They were delicious.

OH is making dinner - chicken curry and rice. We always have aubergine pickle which is excellent.

Have a good evening. I might watch the Portrait Artist of the Year programme.

Jaxjacky Wed 05-Nov-25 19:08:59

I like aubergine pickle too llfl Pataks I’m afraid, not homemade.
Hopefully we’ll under way brook with a 🥃 prepared or at least the kettle on!

Blossoming Wed 05-Nov-25 19:09:31

Good evening all, we have had a quiet day, usual morning and afternoon walks. I’m walking so much better and am feeling more relaxed after getting my blood results. I’m expecting a call from my GP next Tuesday for a CKD update and my flu jab is finally booked for 21st November.
Thinking of Soop, FGT2 and all in the quiet corner x

Grandmabatty Wed 05-Nov-25 19:23:29

RosieandherMaw 💐 life can turn in an instant. Ladyleftfieldlover my favourite pickle is lime pickle. Unfortunately it has a terrible effect on my insides. Blossoming you sound much more positive
I managed to sort out the kitchen and hoover throughout which is more than I reckoned earlier. And I made chicken and mushroom curry with plenty left for tomorrow. So I call that a win!
